in Can eBay rebrand itself as the Web’s Wal-Mart? on VentureBeat
The sale price point at which the 'free auction listing' begins to cost more than you can save on insertion fees is actually $44.

Why would the web need another WalMart? A faux WalMart when we already have plenty of real WalMart. I can order on WalMart online and pick up at my Local store, no shipping. Don't like it instant return while I am there.
As a former eBay user, buyer and seller both, eBay needs to get a grip. eBay HAD a marketplace and it was the place where you could find anything legal. Good luck with finding anything now.
Now I shop using Google to find what I want, no more browsing and seeing neat stuff on eBay. A lot of the fun stuff has gone to Bonanzle.
Full disclosure ex-eBay now selling on Bonanzle and my own website. Hear me roar on Red Ink Diary.

in Capitol Weekly: Meg Whitman: a female Checchi or Simon? on New Capitol Weekly
Meg has a lot of charm. She is also bright.
Neither of these will help much in the face of unremitting negativity from those whose backs she climbed upon to grow eBay. Small traders who are out of business, losing their homes, struggling, many of whom will vote to 'Neg Meg in 2010'.
Meg's hand picked successor, who as President of eBay USA had a lot to do with the decline in ebay from 2006 - 2008 and everything to do with its current inexorable swirl down the drain, is an outstanding example of her unfitness by reason of poor management choices and decisions.
Yes charming Meg was able to hold it together until she was able to step off the sinking ship with dry shoes, but a 70% turnover in upper management in 13 months is not an indication of confidence in the future.
eBay will indeed be studied by Business Schools. A corporation of that size managed by pulling levers quarterly to hoodwink the Wall Street analysts is hardly a recommendation for fitness to manage an entire state.

Gee Benito,
We don't do porn at Bonanzle, maybe that's why you didn't find anything. We don't do knockoffs and fakes either.
Other than that I can assure you the site is not broken. As it says in the header, find everything but the ordinary. Maybe when we have been around as long as iOffer (almost 7 years) we will have more than 20 million items too.
Just FYI iOffer was founded March 25th 2002, six months later on September 22nd 2002, the site had sold precisely 7346 items. Bonanzle has been out of Beta since September 3rd 2008 and to my certain knowledge we passed that total within the first two months.

in • A SOLUTION FOR DETROIT, GM, & FRIENDS on Pacific Gate Post
Isn't that just the problem? Leaving it to market forces? I own a 92 Saturn, & would like to replace it with another, I get 35MPG, nothing that has been made in years is comparable in size, comfort and gas mileage. Would have bought the delightfully funky HHR but 18 - 22 MPG give me a break! For that kind of consumption I could be driving a 1/2 ton dodge diesel truck.
Every year since 1999 I wrote to Saturn asking for better options than their current line, might as well not bother. I have not bought a new vehicle, still driving the shabby old one.

in Web 2.0 Solopreneur Site Of The Week: Prosper.com on 2 The Next LEVEL
One of the major advantages to the solopreneur would be not having to part with a share or even control of your business which is the way venture capital works. For lenders it spreads the risk, win : win situation.
What ever happened to the good old eBay which before all the changes brought by Donahoe and company was the singular leader in Internet retail?
Seems like the more Mr Donahoe has done to reinvent eBay, the lower eBay sinks.
If Mr Donahoe had a shred of vision, he would realize that buyers are leaving eBay because it keeps getting further and further away from waht they once flocked to the site for.
