As John Piper likes to say, "when God speaks, quasars are formed". Not only was the universe created by God's Word, but so is new creation and transformation. I don't think we should be quick to dismiss the necessity of proclamation (especially by preaching) just because most Christians have a tendency to be Pharisaical. When trying to overcome a form of legalism, human nature often creates a new form of legalism. The solution is not to cease proclaiming the Gospel message, but to receive it and all its powerful effects. If you haven't received the creating effects of the Word of God, then all good deeds of social action will be entirely manufactured in the flesh.

Man, I hate to say it, but I think you just ate something that didn't agree with you. The scriptures are the only Revelation we have and the only one we need. I'm sorry if I sound critical.

He's already a constant reminder that he's NOT Randy Moss. The other thing I'm tired of hearing is athletes playing the "I have a family to feed" card. I'm sure I could do a whole lot more than feed my family with the contracts he's played under for the past 11 years.

Great post! I just did a quick word search on "boast". I didn't realize how many occurrences there were. It made me think how often pride rolls off our lips in the form of a boast. Not only does boasting puff us up, but it also seems to have the natural tendency to puff up the person on the receiving end. I know so many times I feel the need to "one up" someone else's boast. It seems if we could refrain from the slightest hint of boasting, then that would be one less seed we plant in the heart of others.
