If its that big a problem he should hang a sign saying his machine is not a redbox, and if people still do it those are some stupid frackin' people unless this guy went and painted his kiosk red for some reason, I just can't see anyone doing that considering the only non-redbox machine I have seen was at the Albertsons just outside of fort myers, fl. on the way to sanibel and it was grey, had a much larger screen and was shaped completely different.

you must remember anytime you use the machine even with a promo code there is still a one dollar "hold" placed on your card to verify the funds are avaliable and after returning the movie "on time" it can take as much as 1 to 2 weeks for the hold to clear.

I have had several times where the machine would not take promo codes basically what had happened was the machine had lost its connection with redbox and during those times it doesnot accept codes and also if your like me when you get to the part with the email receipt part you have to type your email that would normally be retrieved from redboxs "homebase" simply wait and try again later, also it is not uncommon to see the redbox reboot shortly after this problem happens.

what redbox should do is supply him with the names and addresses based on avalailable credit card info so he can find the people that damaged his machines, but at the same time if people are shoving redbox dvd's into his machines then we must assume that those people may also be returning his dvd's to redboxs and causing damage there but you don't see redbox going after him because his dvd's damaged the redbox's. and by the way in my analogy mcdonalds is this guy, so you agreed with me then disagreed so maybe you should think about this logically. we live in a society that thrives on competition to keep prices resonable and this guy is simply trying to find ways to blame other people for the down fall of his business do to competition, all redboxs state the phrase "RETURN TO ANY REDBOX LOCATION" not return to any dvd machine you can find, also I never said he should return the dvd's to Redbox unless they will give him the contact info for the retards that broke his machine, hell he should keep the movies so the people get charged $25 for a movie get mad and stop renting at redboxs, but in reality his machine should look different enough to not get mistaken as a redbox.

that is a temporary $1 hold that redbox places whenever a movie is rented it will be removed in 1 to 2 weeks.

if your talking about the emails from here the average code sent via email is the monday only code and is only valid till midnight (apparently east coast time) also you should read the failed code message, if it says something like unable to proccess code then that means your redbox has temporarilly lost its connection with the rest of redbox and during that time no codes will be accepted period.

no I don't see it as being a threat to redbox's survival, because if they where redbox would simply kill the promo code system, and what you have to look at is there's what maybe a few hundred people that come to this site versus the probably tens of thousands that rent from reedbox machines. Really the code users are probably compared to the market share that apple has in the home computer market, being about 7 percent, they are clearly making plenty of money, and as far as there paying employees you have to remember 1 person could service like 6-8 machines in one day for putting in the new movies so it doesn't take much to run.

that would take a lot of work to implement something like that considering that the machines "board" is lit using standard flourescent tubes that go from top to bottom, they would have to redo that entire part of the kiosk and when you consider the number of kiosk there are that would not be very economic for them.

if you go to redbox's website and give them your email address every tuesday for the first month they will send an email with a code good for the week, also some of the codes are not really known but some people find them written on a pice of paper attached to or near the machine that they then report here for the rest of us.

Nope never had that problem, I have on several occasions returned a movie where I had used a promo code, and then used a new code to get another movie right away.

It is impossible for them to "monitor" the way you suggest because how could redbox know it was you entering the new code, when you could have very well walked away after returning your movie and someone else walk up and enter a promo code.

from my experience redbox will only limit valid codes after several people have used them in a row but if you wait a while they will start working again.

has anyone ever tried buying one of those $50 walmart visa cards, then go online and register your address to see if you can rent from redbox with one of those?

I ask because I have several friends who don't have credit cards or atm cards that would like to rent from redbox but can't due to lack of having a card.

I know you can't use one that was just bought but doesn't have a registered address on walmartgift.com, just wondering if it will work once it has been registered.

if the codes you tried were wierd letter and number combinations and it sayed that they have already been used, then those were one time use codes given to someone from redbox. But any valid code that you type in should work, except for the codes REDBOX and I think DVDONME are for first time renters only, and of course BREAKROOM since you used it already. The next time you try one and it rejects it write down what the rejection screen said for why it wouldn't take it and post it here.

not all prepaid cards will work, for example the walmart prepaid $50 visa gift card won't work even if registered, but the walmart visa moneycard that gets your name on the card and fully registered with your address works, i've been told on here gift2go cards work, also you can go to your bank and get a prepaid card registered to you that you can use to rent.

well did you spell it right?
did you check what the error message was?
if it said "cannot process code at this time" then your redbox was temporailly disconnected from the server.
If it said "invalid code" then you typed it in wrong.
did you try another code like breakroom just to see if the code entering part was functioning?

the cards you ordered might work, assuming your name is printed on the card and your address is registered with them.

I know for a fact that the walmart prepaid visa MONEYCARD that gets your name on it will work but the walmart prepaid visa GIFTCARD will not even when registered.

So it varies, I say if you already ordered them give it a shot and see.

well the way around downloading movies so you don't have to meet a judge is to rent the movie then use any of the many available dvd backup programs that allow people to make copies of disk's, that is impossible to trace so you are very unlikely to get caught doing that unless your stupid and tell a bunch of people or sell copies to people you don't know.

no, I have only one card and I have used at least 70 different codes over the last 8 months on that one card. inorder for a code to work it must still be valid and you must not have already used it on that card, and if you enter a code you still get a $1 "hold" placed on your account and assuming you return it on time that hold is removed in 1-2 weeks. It is standard procedure for a business like this to place the $1 hold to verify the card is active and has sufficient funds for the first days rental. It is also stated in the terms of service which can be found on the REDBOX liosk touchscreen interface or there website.

Yes, as long as the codes you use are valid and you have not used them on that card there is no limit to the number of codes you can use in a week, personally my best week was a monday I came here and found 4 valid codes I had not used and also had my text message monday code. So I took all 5 codes to the machine and doing (1 code, 1 movie) per transaction, since you can only put it one code at a time, I left there with 5 movies that night.

I agree I have checked out several code sites and none of them have anything more then just a long list of codes that goes back 2 or more years, so props to Micheal for making a site that gives you an indication of the chance of a code working.

i'm curious as to how you managed a 65 dollar total, because it would be 25 a piece plus tax for movies not returned and there is no way that 25 plus tax goes into 65 dollars. the way I watch to make sure this doesnot happen is to have rental reciepts sent to my email for everything I rent so I make sure it shows up right.

like I said before do you get reciepts emailed to you? If you do that would prove you returned them because at the moment you return a movie you are emailed a return confirmation email, this is also a way of making sure your movies registered as returned because if you did return them and when you got home did not recieve the confirmation you could call them right away before the 25 day period has passed and you get charged for not returning them, also did you follow proper procedure when returning them, meaning, did you push "return a dvd" then insert 1 movie wait for confirmation of return, then wait for main menu and go through the process again, you cannot just jam all the movies in at one time.

well this question has been answered several times on this sit but here again, Some work and some don't for example if its a prepaid from your bank that has your name and address registered to the card it will, also the Walmart prepaid VISA MONEYCARD that is registered to you and your name appears on the card works but the walmart VISA GIFTCARD will not work even when registered, it appears the defining characteristic is that your name has to be on the card so that if you go over your balance they not only have your address but also the name of the person that rented the movie.

actually the older cases do have a small barcode in the middle of the back side of the case, not sure about the new case, As for the original question why would you want to waste a promo code on a case you may never need? It is there for people that NEED them as a last resort because they were dumb enough to misplace the case, I mean come on, open case insert dvd into player set case ontop of dvd player watch movie, return to case and return to kiosk. how could you misplace a case unless your like here you go kids (tosses case to young children) have fun, and if you do that then you should pay the dollar for a replacement case.

I think it would be a good idea to put above the code entry box a disclaimer that goes something like "If you called redbox to report a non working dvd and they provided you with codes, those codes are one time use only, please do not enter them here." So that we can cut down on the number of useless codes that get entered.

codes listed as "monday only codes" i.e. the ones you can get texted to you if you sign up on redbox's website (not this site although you can sign up for the newslette here and he sends out emails with a link to the code here) are monday codes but all the other working codes work on any day of the week till they expire.

Well I hope you get it worked out, But this is an example of why you should always have reciepts emailed to you, so you could catch things like this long before they get to this point.

email reciepts from redbox are as important as detailed billing is on cell phone plans because the companies are less likely to screw your stuff up if you have records of everything.

you know you do not have to click the link in the email, once you get the email simply exit that webpage and come here, the code is posted on the home page as soon as the email is sent out, so you don't have to click the link in the email you just come to the site normally.

the real question is how you could be so stupid as to not think of just visiting the site normally instead of clicking the link?

what is the resolution on your computers moniter, if it is set to low it can cause things to overlap? also do you have the text display setting in internet explorer set high, because that can cause things to overlap? this site always displays perfectly for me, perhaps you should clear your history so this page has to completely reload.

depends on the card, couple of questions,

1. Is it a "gift" card?
2. Is your name printed on the card?
3. Is the card registered to your address?

if your answer to number 1 is yes then it probably wont work, from my experience gift cards don't work but prepaid cards that have your name printed on the card and are registered to your address will.

yes but if you rented it from nashville and got on a plane are you going to know where if at all there is a redbox where you are going. So I said the orignal comment to make the point that without knowing there is a convienent location to return the movie when you get were your going then why risk getting stuck with a movie you can't return because you didn't think to check to see if there was a redbox were you were going, so it only makes sense to rent from an airport if the redboxes are at all airports you can be going to.

thats the reason redbox only rents the 2d version, because they have no way of supplying the glasses for the 3d, and the high quality 3d tech is called

3D READY

and to use it you need a tv that supports it, and basically its a box that attaches to hidef 1080p televisions that is synced with special shutter glasses that only allow at any given time one eye to see the screen and at that moment only half the screen grid displays which results in full hd 3d, here is a link to the info that explains it better:

I usually rent My movies around 6 when i'm on lunch and take them back at the end of the night when I get off work, but for the hell of it I have tested what you are talking about and either last week or the week before it was like 12:28 and it still took it. If I get up there that late I may wait for the midnight switch tonight.

The reason it only said monday codes was because the wednesday codes where this month only, and you did not recieve todays code because it takes up to a week before you start recieving the text messages and on top of that if you signed up today you probaly did it after the codes had been sent out for the day,they are sent out between 10 and 11 am eastern time if you signed up after that you would not have recieved it.

Everyone that feels they have ever been overcharged should read this and see how the fact that you get email receipts allowed you to catch the problem immidiately and get it resolved before being charged large sums of money.
