If so, I'm definitely grabbing some brisket when I go home in October.

Re: Library Web Chic » Blog Archive » Getting things done aka how I keep my head above water

Robin-

Thanks for mentioning our product. The ClearContext license you have purchased is good for two computers, so feel free to install it on your home machine. FYI - we advise that you close down Outlook on one machine before opening it on another; but other than that you should have little issue running at home and work.

Please let me know if I can provide additional assistance.

Re: ClearContext changes a bit too much

Kevin -

I have no idea what made me think of this post today. Anyway, last month we released version 2 of ClearContext. I'd like to invite you to check it out. One of the bigger enhancements made was the addition of new views, some of which change the Inbox a little bit less. Of particular note, we can now present messages color-coded in date received order, but threaded - meaning that all messages in the same conversation stick together. If you're still interested, this might be just what you're looking for to ease into our Outlook productivity system. If you have the chance to try it out, please let me know how it works out.

Take Care,
Brad.

Re: ClearContext changes a bit too much

We're not officially supporting Office 2007 at this time, but there are several folks who are using us with generally good results (including some members of my team). Each subsequent release of CC will have increased O 2007 support built into the product. For more detail on our O'07 plans, see this post:

http://blog.clearcontext.com/2006/04/theres_no_...

If you decide to try us out on O 2007, please let me know how it works out. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about the new product.

Re: My fall odyssey’s: part 1, GTD

Kevin:

Thanks for giving ClearContext another try. FYI - we're days away from formally releasing our 3.0 product, which supports Outlook 2007 and Vista. Details and early access to the 3.0 download are here:

http://www.clearcontext.com/beta/

Also, you might find of interest these collected links on how some of our customers are adapting ClearContext to their personal GTD implementation:

http://www.clearcontext.com/forums/viewtopic.ph...

Please feel free to drop me any questions you might have as you use the product. Good luck getting organized.

Re: GTD update

Thanks for the feedback and congrats on getting more organized. Let me address your peeves with ClearContext:

1. I think you can save a keystroke or two by using the Topic Selector. Alt-P opens it (or click the Topic button), start typing your Topic name and click enter to assign or one of the shortcut keys to file. The time savings here, BTW, really comes into play after you’ve got Topics started on your threads. The next time a message in this conversation arrives it will automatically be tagged with the correct Topic, so all you need to do is hit Alt-M to file. You take this to the next level by using AutoAssign to pre-assign Topics to message threads. Which brings me to your next point.

2. In v3.0.4 we made some improvements to the way CC resolves Exchange addresses. Make sure that you have downloaded your Global Address List to take advantage of this functionality. See this post for more detail: http://blog.clearcontext.com/2006/11/exchange_n... . Also, if you want to ensure that ClearContext forces Topic changes according to your instructions, check “Override existing Topic” when creating AutoAssign rules. That said, you are correct that CC doesn’t handle Exchange distribution lists like it should. This is on our issues list for some future work.

The latter issue (AutoAssign not picking up all addresses in the To and CC fields) was not one that has been brought up before. I am noting and will see if we can do something about it in a future build.

Thanks again for your comments. Please send more feedback my way as you have it.

Re: Web Standards Project opens up, rock out

Re: #3 - Jason, if by "horrible 1980's TV show" you mean "awesome 1980's TV show" then, yes, I think of it every time. All respondents get a $15 discount towards the purchase of ClearContext and a lucky few will receive free licenses to IMS Pro.

Good luck getting on top of your Inbox!

Re: Travel disaster

Robert:

Info for next time - unless the rules have changed in the last two months, in Oakland, you don't have to go through security for the terminal you are traveling from. The Southwest line is ALWAYS terrible, so I enter through Terminal 1 security and take an immediate left to walk over to Terminal 2. Much quicker.

Have a great trip.
