Oh, Greenspan was booed but if you watch the video of when Dakich comes out you hear people yell for him and right before he makes the comment about his family you hear someone yell, "You're the man". People weren't cussing at Dakich.

THAT DID NOT HAPPEN!!!! I was sitting courtside at the god damn game and when akich said "Glad to see my family made it" He was laughing about the HUGE ovation he got!!! If someone did yell that you CERTAINLY could not hear it through out the hall, maybe just up in your section.

Ha....Wow....alright, even if your ears didn't hear the yells at "Akich", as you seem to call him, then I hope those same ears heard all the "god damn" boos (as you would say) when Greenspan was mentioned, and if THIS didn't happen, then Helen Keller, I'll take back everything I said about it. Sorry.

The Senior speeches after the game tonight were great. Adam Ahlfeld might have had the funniest, and longest speech ever. DJ was humble and grateful and thanked everyone. When he thanked Eric Gordon and called him "the other half of the best duo in college basketball" The entire crowd began chanting "One More Year" and as DJ Laughed Dakich ran out on to the court laughing and waving his arms to get the crowd to chant it louder haha.
They all talked a good game afterward about hanging another banner...lets see how hard they play and how badly they want it. I must admit, they played a lot tougher tonight and it seemed like maybe they aren't ready for this to end just yet.

AT LAST...I am not the only person in the world hoping for DJ to end up with the Bulls!!! Hahaha. This kid has improved by leaps and bounds every year and has become an all time favorite without the huge ego and "Holier than Thou" attitude.
Every time I've heard someone congratulate him on a good game or anything in class he always is modest and just responds with an, "appreciate it" or "oh, thank you very much". I not only love him as a player, I respect him as a person for not having the attitude people like Ratliff walk around with down here.

Slowly, but surely, DJ has become one of my all-time favorite Hoosiers. He came in as a big recruit and he has just improved every year and his progression has been fun to watch. He put this team on his back and became a real leader when we booted out Davis and he has become the face of our program and what an IU player should be. I sit next to him and mike white in a class this semester and he is actually a pretty stand up guy, too.
I will be sitting courtside tonight with a big "Thank You, DJ" sign. This is a kid who could have bolted with Vaden and MD but stuck around and will be one of the guys we'll love to look back on for years to come. I can't wait to see video of some of his huge dunks in 10 or 15 years and say, "I was there for that!"

My roommates and I were discussing our bench situation during this game yesterday and we were curious if anyone else wondered about benching some of our starters for there lackluster defense and giving some guys like Eli Holman and Brandon McGee a chance to play and show what they can do?
It seems like it not only serves as a wake up call to the entrenched starters but could maybe help us deepen our rotation to a little more than the 7 or 8 players we have now.

My guess is that Eli can't do much on a broken wrist. The coaching staff has said, time and time again, that McGee is a 3. They don't want him focusing on anything but being a 3.
There's a log jam at the 3. McGee is not the answer.

The problem is, do you want to potentially ruin a redshirt for these guys?
Granted, I haven't been able to watch the games in the earlier part of the season, but if they haven't played yet, then why put them out there now?

AGREED. DD is so concerned with trying to unite these guys and not overwhelm them since they're already SOOOO emotional that he is being way too tentative with them. This team needs a week like what Pat Knight gave tech after that loss to A&M by 40+ where they were out flipping, and running with, tractor tires. Someone needs to be the ass kicker here and get them in line.

Someone yesterday wrote that they felt more upset about all of this than the players and I believe that is EXACTLY the problem! When something doesn't go our way half of our team is whining to the refs and not getting back on defense. It seems like our team cannot take responsibility for the failings and is just all around immature.
However, If a loss like this has to occur I am glad it happened when it did. This team got their asses handed to them on national tv and maybe it will provide a wake up call just in time for the Big Ten Tourney and the NC2A's. The regular season title went out the window with MSU 70%+ shooting and lackluster D but maybe it can save our season in the long run.
I am also officially starting a campaign to send Deandre Thomas back to the McDonald's from which he came. Worthless.

MJR, I do not know specifically about the "Non Negotiable" print on the LOI, however, a relative of mine was formerly an attorney for the NCAA and we talked about this issue the other day.
Apparently, you can NOT put any type of opt out clause into a LOI. The NCAA has a policy for the "Qualified Release Agreement" in which the School and Player can MUTUALLY agree to release both parties of their duties required by the LOI. There is NO other policy in the LOI framework to allow for the release by NCAA rules. Any agreement reached about the ability to be released from the LOI would be verbal only and would still require the Qualified Release Agreement to be reached by both player and school.

If anything, it defines ESPN's integrity bringing in Knight, and that's coming from someone who is none too found of the network. ESPN went out and got the most knowledgeable person available to cover college basketball DESPITE the fact that he has trashed some of the network's own. They're doing there job to the best of their ability. As far as Knight's stance on the media, he was absolutely doing his job. The media is about sensationalism and what would make the biggest story and Coach Knight's priority was to protect his team. We all know the bullshit questions reporters ask for the purpose of being divisive and sensational, and to say that Coach Knight was prodded beyond the way the media went after any other Coach would be the understatement of the century!!! And if you think Coach Knight is any kind of exception in the coaching world for his antic you CLEARLY have never been involved in any competitive team sport.

He's not being hypocritical. Theres a difference between being an analyst and being a reporter. If you don't like seeing coaches curse, belittle, bullying and tormenting I guess you've never paid close attention to some of the best coaches ever or played any sports. Knight wrong was not caring who saw him doing it. Coach K, Calipari, Pitino keep it from public alot Bill G is big time bully but hides it pretty well. Not all successful coaches are pat ya on the butt, thank, "come on you can do it if you try" " you need a hug" type coaches.

in Hoosiers hang on at home against Ohio State, 72-69 on Inside the Hall
I will agree with you on this. Gordon is fine with me at the line late in the game and him simply being on the court may make some other guys better.
However, this kid needs to have his ass put on the bench every now and then and needs to get an ass chewing when he screws up. You're going to get fouled when you drive the lane and you may not make every shot, BUT when someone bumps you and you flop and just give up the shot and don't go up strong...you need a little talking to. 1-7 from 3point range in the first half...quit pulling up from 3, and I blame that just as much on the coach as the kid.

I sat courtside for tonight's game and I could not be more frustrated with Gordon's game right now. If this kid could develop some semblance of a mid range jumper it adds such a vital dimension to his game and a new threat when he drives the lane. His ability to draw the foul helps but he needs to go up STRONG. At least 2 or 3 times in the first half when he gets fouled and FLOPS rather than trying to go strong and make the basket.
And I could have KILLED Jordan Crawford when he was arguing with a ref about a travelling call and starts running down court to get on offense while osu still had the ball! The Refs were terrible tonight, but when you're playing defense you need to play DEFENSE not trying to help the ref with his job. And I hope Dakich gets a platter of cheeseburgers for Deandre and glues his ass to the bench.

I agree that Crawford shouldn't be arguing with the ref, but it sounded on TV like a whistle might have blown some on the play. Even the OSU guy stopped in the middle of the lane and stood there for a second before he passed the ball off. Did anyone else hear that, or am I just losing my mind?

I couldn't agree more. As pleased as I am that KS is out, I really am worried about the next hire Greenspan has the potential to bungle. How do you give Lynch an extension BEFORE the bowl game? It's not like people were banging down his door.
I really am hoping for someone with some experience and success but a LONG TERM Coach. Someone who has 15-20 years of top notch potential in him. And please, god, stay away from Scott Skiles, Randy Wittman and Mike Woodson.

Going Back to The Wisconsin game he has had at least 4 or 5 wide open threes and double clutched and ended up dishing the ball. I have no problem with this, but he also too often just puts up plain stupid shots.
The guy is great at driving, second only to Gordon, but He would be so much better served dishing on some of those drives. Gordon doesn't have a midrange game and if he starts at the hoop you know he's going all the way. If Ellis could start to dish on the drive it could definitely help us open the perimeter and give us an option EJ doesn't.
He also seems to be very out of position far too often on defense and I too agree he should have been riding the pine after that T and the yelling in the huddle during the timeout.

Agreed and Agreed. I wouldn't think too much of this game but given our situation it is huge.
I too wouldn't start anyone who skipped practice yesterday to make a statement about who is now in charge. Either way, this game will make a BIG statement about the state of IU basketball. Hopefully it is a positive one.
I'll be sitting at Yogi's enjoying the beginning of a return to the values of old for our program with my roommates. Thanks, Big Ten Network.

I hope Ebanks and our other recruits stay committed to IU, but lets be honest, even if they don't we will be fine.
For the kids that decommitt we, for one, could open the possibility of bringing in different recruits that maybe our new coach signed for another school. It works both ways. Addittionally, this is Indiana. If we have to lose recruits for one year to correct the path we are on, so be it. I will sacrifice a year for the greater good.
And on Dakich...I am so thankful he is the interim coach. However, I hope to god he doesn't remain our coach. It would be a Mike Davis/Bill Lynch situation of winning with someone elses players. And, Dakich has not proven he can recruit or run a program as big as, and important as, ours. If you think Alford doesn't deserve this job Danny boy reeeeally doesnt.

Great point Raymond. I was just talking with a buddy of mine (also an IU grad) and we said the same thing. If a Mark few or someone like that from a pretty solid program comes to IU you have to figure on him bringing one or two players with him. It's not uncommon. Most players have this clause in their LOI's that allow them to change schools if there's a coaching change. Not to mention possible transfers for two years from now and JUCO players!!! Excellent observation Raymond!!!

These players play for INDIANA UNIVERSITY. Tommy says, "They aren't under contract" and he is right, they aren't. But, they are under Scholarship and we pay for them to go to school here to play basketball.
No player is bigger than Indiana University or it's basketball program. If they don't want to play that's fine, if they want to sit out the game tomorrow that's fine, but I say suspend them immediately. This University should not ever be held hostage by it's student athletes no matter the circumstances.
They do NOT deserve some say in the decision and they do NOT deserve some say in the choice between Dakich and Macullum. They are simply players. If they don't want to play for the coach then do not play but this university can ill afford to make any more coaching decisions based on the views and emotions of it's players and our current situation is evidence of that fact.
The University needs to do what is right for Indiana University and the future of it's Basketball program and athletic department. If we have to throw away one season out of 107 then so be it! Decisions now need to be based on how to reclaim our clean and honest name and set us back on the right path.

in The Steve Alford nonsense begins…now on Inside the Hall
The big problem with Alford coming here to Indiana is that he IS an IU legend. If Alford were to be named coach here it would be difficult, at best, for the University to handle his teams not succeeding or, god forbid, any kind of other problems.
It would be hard to remove Alford, then again, maybe we could get another president just career hopping trying to make a name for himself to make the move...
However, I for one also do not believe that Alford is the answer to our problems BUT I also do not agree that his Iowa resume is totally representative of his ability. Their is QUITE a difference between recruiting at Indiana and Iowa. This is not a cure-all, but we all know what a difference a name can make when it comes to calling, well maybe visiting haha, a recruit.
Mark Few, anyone?

Lou Watson was also an Indiana legend in high school and college at IU. Became the coach at IU, failed miserably, and was given the heave-ho. Unless you're saying the current administration has no gonads, I don't see it as a problem. Our next coach has to be sqeaky clean first and successful second. Our problem as IU fans is we put success first for too many years when it became apparent we didn't have to worry about clean.
