This is not the real way to bookmark. Facebook has stated earlier today in the forums that they are in the process of rolling out the new way and haven't yet done so. The changes will go live "very very soon" but they apologized for the inconvenience and confusion at the moment.
They've been testing that persistent connection live for almost two weeks now. If you use a JavaScript debugger like Firebug it starts to consume a lot of resources. Absolutely. Still plenty of opportunity, but you will have to create a very good application, or have a large marketing budget.
This has obvious downsides, but there are some upsides too. For example, these changes will be an economic stimulant for the Facebook economy. Expect prices of ads to go up as inventory decreases and demand increases. This is good news to those developers who can capture and retain an audience.
