Malcolm Gladwell in his book "Blink" covers this discussion.

He quotes research that shows once people associate themselves with negative baggage there performance drops.

The Obama effect would associate people with a positive image of their race.

"“Researchers did a study in which they had [2] groups of students answer 42 Trivial Pursuit questions. ½ were asked to take 5 minutes beforehand to think about what it would mean to be a professor and write down everything that came to mind. 16 - I'm asking you a genuine question, if it were about numbers dead then the anger over Bosnia or Darfur would be much higher.
If it were about Palestinians,then the anger over Kuwait would have registered, or indeed the Palestinians in Gaza killed by Hamas.

I think its largely down to the nature of the perpetrator.
People are always more interested in the child killed by a stranger than they are the more commonplace occurrence of a child killed by its parents.

We do all accept that this conflict was inevitable and accepted as such by both sides though don't we?
Islamic Jihad and Hamas boast that they have trained for it,Egyptian troops were standing back from tunnels that were bombed last week, the IDF have been training for it and Fatah have been hoping for Hamas to be destroyed.

The only way for talks between Syria and Israel, the PA and Israel, &The Arab League and Israel to progress are a solid cease fire monitoring (involving Arab troops - An Israeli climbdown) , a partial or total disarming of Hamas and Islamic Jihad plus a change in Washington.Plus a Netanyahu loss.

Thats not a conspiracy theory, its realism.
And don't anyone forget theres an Iranian election in the summer too.

There'll be a UN/Arab Monitored cease fire this weekend.

2&3 are more likely if 1 is achieved.
An incoming Obama Govt and an internationally monitored ceasefire make them even more likely.

2) The Oona King/George Galloway contest was essentially a glorified primary. Unfortunately, partly because it involved a split within the party it became a lot nastier than it needed to be. Primaries would allow disagreements while holding on to a broader party unity.

Strangely the Palestinians are described by black "recently conquered" after the 67 war.
Yet the West bank and East Jerusalem were conquered by Jordan and occupied by them until 1967.

The existence of three generations of Palestinians in refugee camps may give us a little cause to doubt the generosity of Arab states towards their "bargaining chip" populations.

Salma is very confused about her positions.
She claims to have become politicised when spat on in the street after 9/11.
Yet two years earlier she had been part of a campaign on behalf of the "Yemen 7" Including Abu Hamzas son.

Most of her articles seem to be bland jargon blaming Blair for everything since the crusades.

I have used both of these for my company. Using cats at first, I felt very hard to manage the controls, very complex system. As soon as I switched to simplicant, I just started loving it. It's very much simple and easy to use and manage as compared to cats.

hand held cellphone jammers already exist at places like McDonalds counter registers, and are carried by people in subways and other places they don't want to be hassled by nearby phone users.

deciding IF it should be allowed is already a mute point. just as using a CELL phone is freedom of speech, so to is freedom of silence....just use a library as an example.
