in What’s the point of community on Fun with WordPress

Auttomatic is the business behind WordPress - I can't understand why one business is better than another. wordpress.com is a big business market place - Matt is the chief of both - I'm a webdesigner- and I'm a WP professional woman- I earn money with WP - not so much as Auttomatic but I do ;) -

in your logic no webdesigner is allowed to link back to its website - if he spent a WP Theme back to the WP community.
in your logic no link from wordpress.org to wordpress.com - and so on..

GPL doesn't mean : you are not allowed to earn money - but this days I have to realized : big business yes - small business no ...

my english isn't the best , and if I hear Matt I can't understand him very well - (british english is much better to understand :-))
so I have to wait for translation - thanks for the discussion

Andrew Rickmann The problem with links is that they are now worth something. There needs to be a line somewhere. The question is where?

For example, is it OK for a web designer to link back to their site, it should be, but then why not let a gambling website release a theme with links back to their website? is that still OK? How about adult sites? As long as they produced the theme, or paid for it to be produced by someone else, there isn't really a difference. But I would not like the second two.

in Monday Poll Results: What action will you take on 2.7 threaded comments? on Fun with WordPress
This result is no surprise for me.

I know many WP blogger and most of them do not like threaded comments for their own blog.
Most of them told me: oh a good idea - but I wouldn't like to implement them, because they are unfitting to my own project.

Andrew Rickmann Monika,

Trackbacks are a nice idea, but in practice I got so much spam and so many one line links that it wasn't worth it.

I am happy for you to add your link in any comments here, especially when you are promoting something I have done :-)

Andrew Rickmann Actually, It's Andrew. And the reason is that I've turned off trackbacks because, in the whole, people don't see the value in them.

Hi Rick - I know this comment is offtopic but I don't know where I can ask...

I've sent a ping but I can't see it? Why? Is this the *blog comments powered by.*.... ?

kindly regards

in Sticky posts are just wrong on Fun with WordPress
Hi
I think it is the same diskussion as *categories and tags* - for me both are drawer, maybe a category is a larger drawer than a tag-maybe ;)

Your solution is beautiful for all they would like to use only static pages, but for *everyday* user it is a philosophical problem and I love philosophie but I'm a pragmatist. To make a *click* is better than to write a hack ;)

and - most of the time - I thought:sticky posts are only modern:why do we need sticky posts at all ;)

but with your solution I can do many other things - great-thanks a lot for the idea ;)

in Theme authors: give us choices on Fun with WordPress
short:no
this time wp 2.7 to design comments theme authors have less freedom than WP > 2.7

more options is less freedom for the theme author and less freedom for the user, because every option offers a way - most of the time 3,5,6,7,8 ways but not all ways to use this or that plugin this or that feature.

for customers I do like premium theme authors but not for *all * WP user.

I realise that german wp user prefer other things and features as blogger from usa - I don't know why but I see it.

I 'm afraid that the way your question is going we try to *paternalism* blogger -

simple as possible - not difficult and less options

Andrew Rickmann I think I see what you are saying: that adding more options doesn't really provide more choice, just more ways of doing things within a more rigid structure?

I am slightly concerned with the way they have handled the comment changes in 2.7 because they are removing the choice for themers, but having decided to go with Disqus now it makes little difference to me.

I hate your formular - most of the time I lost my comment, because I have the false things in false order - most of the time I could use my automatic form of the browser - I hope I can remember all my words for the next try-maybe this kills spammer, maybe but sure it kills my time and my patenience ....

Andrew Rickmann Monika, I have completely changed the comment system so this should not happen any more. This was almost certainly down to my anti-spam system which was cookie based and might not have played well with your browser.

Apologies.

in Why is WordPress moving away from the web? on Fun with WordPress
"fear to destroy something"

Some clients fear to destroy something at administration panel.
For others is the adminstration panel too complex.

I know a blogger who has 35 blogs! He needs windows life writer to publish posts in a comfortable way.

Others write posts at work - to write with the life writer is better, ;)

in Top Level Categories Plugin 1.0 on fortes.com
Hi
I've tried to use your plugin for a new blog.

Pagination doesn't work, plugin head meta can't find cats and so it doesn't show head meta description if you would like to use "category description".

I know WP and the url slug /category/ are the best friends for ever.;)

Thanks a lot for your work. For your time and knowledge, but WP is more strongheaded than we all - ;)

kindly regards
Monika
