in Affiliate Tip Video: Cloaking Links Using Your Own Domain on Pajama Professional
That's a great idea, but I'm not sure I can do that. I'm using Camtasia (the free version for Internet Marketers) and Windows Movie Maker. I'll have to do a bit of research and see what I can do. I have seen that done before and I'm probably missing a good advertising option by not doing it. thanks for the tip!

in A Brief Note Regarding Political and Religious Discussions on Pajama Professional
TRU, I am certainly not saying that religion should be taken lightly. And I completely agree that we need more tolerance. I guess when I say "religion" I am referring more to certain values and beliefs held by certain people who are members of certain religions. For example, when I say that I believe homosexuality is perfectly acceptable and not a choice, most people who disagree with me would be doing so based on their religious beliefs.
I have nothing against any specific religion as such, I just don't agree with the teachings of hatred and the negative judgments often carried around by those who are members of certain religious groups.
I never have and never would dislike or treat someone negatively simply because of their religious beliefs. Even if I don't agree, it's not my place to find anyone's faith but my own.

in Do you have a dream board? on Todds Tips
Todd,
This is so strange. Almost a year ago my best friend and I bought big ole poster boards with the intension of making vision boards. We just never did anything with them. Not five hours ago I was telling her that I ought to get mine out and start cutting up some magazines and putting my vision board together.
And then I found your post.
I am on the computer all the time and I love blogging. I will be so much more likely to interact with a digital dream board than I ever would with a piece of cardboard and some magazine scraps. I can't thank you enough for sparking me into action and bringing it all together for me.
Sara
P.S. I just found your blog this evening and I am really enjoying it. I'll be back soon. =)

in Andrew Baron Selling Twitter Account, Database For Sale? on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
Hi Christopher,
Excellent post, especially like that you have an inside perspective on the buying and selling of "people."
First, you bring up an excellent point comparing the usefulness of Twitter information to a standard contact database. Right now the auction is at $255 which is already more than 10% of that $1.50-a-head number you mentioned. The auction is a 10-dayer so I imagine he'll get much more than where it currently sits. The bidders really should take into account that the information they are getting is useful only in the Twitter environment.
Sure, Twitter is huge right now and it could end up being incredibly lucrative for the right buyer, but it sure is a lot more risky than finding someone in your niche who has a large email list and "renting" their list for an email or two. And that method generally brings much more targeted traffic to your site if you choose wisely.
Second, your concise writing was very effective. By the time I got to "You are for sale" I was seriously creeped out. Just the way you framed the article and your word choice really made it clear how often and easily our personal information is thrown about.
Thanks for a great read!

in Why The Rick Astley YouTube Rickroll Matters on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
Chris - Just found your blog and I'm loving it. I think you are right on the money with the Rickrolling. With a huge space like YouTube it's no surprise that big-time advertisers would be wanting a piece of screentime.
According to a Harris Interactive poll done a little over a year ago, most YouTube viewers say they would spend less time on the site if videos included advertisements. However, if the big guys used things like music videos and television shows they would get the same (or better) effect without the overt sales push.
On top of that, our generation (I'm 29) is so nostalgic about the popular culture of our youth and teen years. It would be really easy to tap into that further than is already being done.
Dan - it's interesting that Astley is set to tour soon. Perhaps ABC is a few steps ahead of us. Maybe the whole thing was a publicity stunt disguised as an April Fools joke.

Do you think anyone would buy "John Chow in Gay Love Triangle"? I'm pretty handy with photoshop. LOL!

P.S. For anyone else around here who might lack a sense of humor, I have nothing against gays. I am, in fact, a lesbian. I just think it would make great April Fools linkbait.

Patrick,
You are brilliant! I saw the headline on technorati and RACED over here. Then halfway through I realized...hey, isn't it about...oh...April 1st-ish where Darren lives? Ha!
Also, I love stupid Americans who think that whatever time zone they are in is the "real time." I liked your reply to Mr. Shamess, though: join pay-per-tweet. That's effing awesome! LOL!
Thanks for a great laugh, Patrick. You have some seriously killer linkbait here. Congrats!

in Cnet Misses The Point About Conversational Marketing on Jim Kukral
Hey Jim,
I think you make an excellent point here. Because of all the new technology, traditional advertising has lost 99% of its effectiveness with the most important target markets. Sure, my grandmother still watches the commercials during Wheel of Fortune, but, at 90, she's not out buying hair color and fast food.
I think conversational marketing is a necessary progression of advertising. As a marketer it takes a bit more work because you really need to know your target prospects, but once you get that part down the conversion rates are generally much better than, for example, a non-targeted television ad shown to millions of napping and nuking consumers.
As a consumer, I like that the advertisements being served to me are for products that I might actually purchase. Sure, it doesn't help me hold on to my money, but it makes me more likely to pay attention. And, really, when consumers spend money on things from which they can actually benefit then everyone wins.

in Week O’ Injuries on Sam Harrelson's Comment Forum
Sam,
It's really too bad you made the sexy feet comment yourself because you just barely beat me to it. =)
I've been checking out Cost Per news and wandered over here to get to know you better. I'm writing about attention metrics for my blog and decided to track down Cost Per News after reading the Web 2.0 article in Revenue.
Anyway, I'm really happy to have found Cost Per News as my blog is centered on making money online. Thanks for creating such a great resource.
If you want to stay in one piece this week, I suggest a double layer of bubble wrap before leaving the house.
