Glad you enjoyed the post.

I wondered if I should include the story about the fashion blog "incident" but felt that it was, in the end, worth sharing. Hopefully this series will inspire more people in our generation to make activism a part of their everyday lives.

Re: Be the change: Activism is for everyone, by Dollface

That's a good point!

Re: This.

I second Nancy.

It's amazing and historic that Obama got elected President. That by no means entails the end of racism or prejudice. We have yet to have a female President, or an atheist President, etc. There is a lot of ground to cover in terms of eradicating prejudices. This is a good step, but it's just that -- one step in the right direction.

Re: Websites Worth Caring About

Interesting article. My blog is still pretty new (only a few months old) but I've been seeing a steady upwards trend in terms of page hits & reader comments. I hope to eventually grow the blog exponentially in that sense. However I am not interested in the money aspect at all. I want to increase readership so that my ideas can reach more people and I can interact with others. Even if I could make good money with my blog in the future, I really care about creating useful, good content for the enjoyment of others.

When you said, "I’m passionate about using the internet to redefine our world. That’s why I’m here," that really spoke to me. I feel the same way.

Re: Let’s talk about issues

I liked your post...and I hope you don't think you need plastic surgery!!! When decorating my apartment, having a budget is pretty important. This post has inspired me to try to be more creative with what I have already (and maybe make a few more cheap purchases).

I just heard that Threadbanger.com has a new video series with tips to DIY decorate your apartment on the cheap. It's worth checking out!

Re: Spread The Love

This is right up my alley...thanks for sharing!

Re: Strep Throat & Other Maladies

This story is tragic and hilarious. It's pretty rare to see a male blogger discussing feminism. Rock on.

Re: Feminism Needs Work

Hey there. I'm pretty new to writing about feminism and being active in my feminist beliefs. However, in a pretty short time I have run across many women who claim that men can't be feminists for the reason you mention...it takes "our cause" out of our hands and puts it in the hands of you evil men.

Umm...f*** that!! Maybe I'm just more of a humanist, but I don't think all men are bad and incapable of empathizing with women's problems and issues! So, while it's probably easier to just call yourself "pro-feminist" on this blog so you don't get a bunch of people calling you out on referring to yourself as a feminist, in my opinion you are...a feminist. You are thoughtful and concious of women's issues and that is something that more men (and women) should do.

Keep doing what you're doing. I also agree that feminism should address WoC. Very good point.

Re: You can’t chase success to be successful

Great post -- I think we all need to be reminded of this from time to time.

I've got one year left of college and I'm caught between what other people want me to do and what I want to do. I felt pressured to jump immediately into a career (I want to eventually get into book publishing). However, I realized what I really want, more than anything else, is time off to make money (start paying off my college debt!) & work on friendships and my passions like blogging and writing. I have re-adjusted my own perception of success...and feel much better about it!

Re: Feature Friday: The Enough Project

Thanks for sharing...linking to that video on Facebook now!

Re: Be the Change: How Gen Y is changing the world

Loving the series so far.

Re: Be the change: Are We Teaching Young Feminists To Be Fleas? by Elisa Doucette

You pose an interesting argument. I see your point -- isn't identifying the glass ceiling going to create a self-fulfilling prophecy in which women don't try to succeed to their full potential out of "fear" of said glass ceiling?

At the same time, however, it is important for society as a whole to keep in mind that there is a glass ceiling of sorts, even today (women still make 70-80 cents of a male's dollar). While I don't want the notion of a glass ceiling to discourage young women from realizing their workplace potential, it is important for the organizations to work on breaking down aspects of that gender gap.

I would advise against complacency, in other words. While I am optimistic about my future career, I will expect my future employer to provide an egalitarian working environment -- and I will continue to work towards a future in which there is no glass ceiling. I think it's too early to dismiss that notion.

P.S. I think it's really important feminists of our generation start learning more about the feminists before us! In the last few years I've read really great feminist literature. I suggest starting with a feminist in our generation -- Jessica Valenti.

Re: Be the change: Are We Teaching Young Feminists To Be Fleas? by Elisa Doucette

Also -- here's a great (current) article about workplace sexism and the gender gap.

http://www.portfolio.com/executives/features/20...

Re: Be the change: Are We Teaching Young Feminists To Be Fleas? by Elisa Doucette

I'm not advocating that, either.
