in Two Types of Entrepreneur: "Alpha" and "Beta" on punctuative! by Matt Winn
That's an interesting topic, Matt, and one to which I can relate as someone who has assuredly had some alpha tendencies suspended for a while. Masquerading as a beta for the last few years, however, has helped me grow and learn tremendously.
I appreciate all you're doing with Forge to get the alphas and betas together. It certainly takes both to create and nurture successful ventures.

I look forward to day when a truly innovative company proves sales go up when [wasteful] advertising spend goes down.

in Scaling Yourself on Chris Brogan
Very insightful and helpful, Chris. Your suggestions certainly affirmed many sentiments and behaviors I encounter on a daily basis, and I've learned a few more ninja skills to apply to my life.
I'm in the midst of 'triage' and scaling back my participation in several distractions right now, though I always make time to absorb your invaluable knowledge. Thanks again for everything!

in Facebook Is Getting Into Porn? on AllFacebook
I would bet anxious advertisers had requested those changes. While it's not very well known, numerous industries [outside of the vices you mention] adhere to strict age limitations on messaging to minors. Think pharma, food service, political interests...
When advertisers know for certain that their content will only display to 18+ or 21+ profiles, they won't need to jump through as many legal hoops or fine print when presenting the messages.

in Help Someone Understand Social Media on Chris Brogan
Each morning I look forward to cramming more of your sacred doctrine into my noggin. Veterans like you, Jeremiah Owyang along with rising stars like Jason Falls make it easier for me to translate social media for the more traditionalist mindsets.
Someone asked me yesterday, "what is social media all about?". I responded with, "what's the bible all about? moreover, what's the internet all about?" In all cases it means different things for different people, so thanks to you and other thought leaders for bringing clarity to the conversation and strategies to elevate social media.

in How Information Will Move on Chris Brogan
I've been giving this concept some thought also: http://www.nickhuhn.com/2007/11/16/googlemesh-f...
Jason Falls gives it a whirl too:

I'm completely in alignment with your vision of the future. I just wonder if anyone will emerge to 'own' it or if it will remain an oligopoly of service providers and knowledge aggregators like Google, Facebook, Amazon, Nielsen, News Corp, et al. It'll be interesting to say the least, and hopefully with a not very 1984ish conclusion.
I wonder too when our public information becomes meshed with what we consider private or 'guarded' what will happen with respect to privacy and marketing guidelines? I predict the proposal of an Information Privacy Act by a grey-haired senator that doesn't quite get it in the next few years. That will at least put the privacy and information transparency ethical debate on the table.

in GoogleMesh, Facebook, AI and privacy on Nick Huhn - Creative Versatilist
Yeah I'm most intrigued by the idea that within a few years the line between our technology and our friends will blur unapologetically and invisibly.
I love love love Google and Facebook and all the opportunities that come with those platforms and amazing repositories of info and interactions. While I don't think "evil" will ever enter its way into the equation from those two companies, I hesitate to think that the marketers who will use those platforms will abide by the same ethics.
Or, hypothetically, will it all become one massive, passive, AI "matrix" environment in which our choices and behaviors are driven solely by the factors of convenience and/or [socio]technographic profiles? I'm anxious to read (and create) more dialog around the possibilities...
