in MySpaceID: Massively Improved and Integrated on Yahoo’s Home Page on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
@giantnerd I'm from Georgia, living in Cali now, and more of my friends back home are on MySpace than Facebook. While I tend to use FB more, I still use MySpace for catching up with all of them. Just because something is not relevant to you personally, does not mean it's irrelevant to the rest of the world.

Nokia is really doing some great things (trying out the N81 via their WOM campaign right now, though my trial is almost up). Man, you are amazing and your presence here will be deeply felt. We'll miss you and I hope you and the family enjoy Helsinki!

Andy,
I don't think Cody is everyone's first friend, just that he likely invited you because you are probably in his address book. Cheers!

in When Targeted Ads Hurt on everwas
I actually get diet ads all the time on Facebook, and I rarely talk about dieting or losing weight. Not sure if it's because I'm listed as married, mom or just my age/sex, but that's about all I get (and the recruiting ads from Facebook, Microsoft and Digg that are likely coming because of my company listing).

in Microsoft fires game test contractor who talked to VentureBeat on VentureBeat
I've had three consoles so I fully understand the annoyances this console has caused. Still, by far I'd rather play on my 360 than any other machine I own (and we have the other next gen consoles). Sounds like the tester knew he'd probably get fired and took that risk knowingly, so kudos to him. However, if he broke NDA then firing was justified.

in Why enterprise software isn’t sexy on Scobleizer
I've only just started using enterprise software, and I agree it's about the ugliest, clunky stuff I've ever seen. Yes, I'm glad it's not going to fail, obviously, but would some UI thought make it fail? Can a company not attempt sexy and failproof, or is that not possible? Is it too much to ask that it not include a popup everytime I click an option? Must it look like hell? Is user experience so unimportant that it not even be a thought, not even warranting UI testing?

Anyhoo, Rick said many of the sessions were being videoed and I know they videoed the session I did, so I KNOW they did the sessions you did. Am looking forward to seeing them. Cheers!

in MyBlogLog New Features – The Abusive and the Incomplete on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
Andy,
Thanks for the feedback. Meg had suggested an 'opt out of mass messages', so I'm sure we'll discuss it on Monday. We'll also talk about the tags that you mentioned.

When we changed the layout of the community page, it really was intended to drive conversation and traffic back you the community owner's blog. If the tags are not doing that, we need to put our heads together.

As far as the suggestion board goes, when I note in the backend that I've seen the message, it disappears from the queue. I certainly could stop noting that so that all of the messages stay, but at what point *should* they disappear? I'd love your feedback on this as we want this to be as useful as possible for all of you and for us. Thanks, great post as usual.

Andy Beard I don't know whether Meg commented on your blog before or after reading my post, but that isn't anything I would ever pick straws over. In many things we are very like minded.
Most of this post was written before you had even mentioned the messaging system on the blog.

The moment I received a first message from Jonathan at smartwealthyrich.com I knew this was going to be a problem.

That was just after 6pm PST yesterday.

Tags need to point to content that is related which in turn point back to related profiles and blogs.
I am not going to suggest you have to have followable external links from all the tag pages - Bumpzee does, Blogcatalog doesn't but it would be good to have interrelated tagging all over the place.

An alternative would be to have a Megite like aggregator for a tag.

It is important to think that a blog could have 1000s of tags, and have only mentioned a topic once.

You should be aggregating tags looking to have a weighted tag cloud for each blog in the future.

Whether you have all the tag links indexed is a complicated issue, I write a lot about the SEO ways to use tagging, but it can be equally argued that it shouldn't be indexed.

I wouldn't might some tag based feeds as well as I would like some way to grab a little content legally to make my tag pages more useful.

I have written so many suggestions in the past, but not knowing what is coming down the track now 6 months after I suggested them, it is hard to even consider using the suggest board.
Start at the beginning and work your way forward.
http://andybeard.eu/tag/mybloglog/page/4

The content is paged for now, but that will change in the future - supplemental results = lack of pagerank

I just visited suggest and Yahoo Pipes.

I made a suggestion there a while back, but there is no "my suggestions" feature to allow me to track, and the suggestion seems to have disappeared totally because you can no longer even find it on a search.

Most of my "suggestions" are fairly geeky and your mass audience is either

1. Not understand what I write, so not vote on it
2. Vote for it just because it sounds good, even though they don't understand what I am writing.

Yahoo suggest doesn't have the kind of interface suitable for a 3000 word post with 5 to 10 pictures to try to explain anything.

The good news is that my "situation" with Blogcatalog doesn't prevent me offering some advice though things in email stay private, as they have done with MBL in the past.

I would however have to avoid discussing anything feature related in email as I notified Eric about a while back.

The good news is I have only left 4 communities so far due to this, so an early post was pre-emptive.

"I’m sorry Robyn, but you did call SMO’s spammers "

I answered this on your previous MyBlogLog post.

in MyBlogLog a Bunch of Schmoes? on Marketing Pilgrim
You're right, I did say that. I didn't mean to imply that ALL SMOs were spammers. I will reiterate that I do not think (nor does MBL think) that all SMOs, SEOs or any other business people are spammers. There are black-hat SMOs and white-hat SMOs...

The tag schmoe is not private, as no tags are private, however you can choose to opt-out of tags on your profile or you can delete any tag you wish (and it will never reappear). If you wanted to prevent anyone from tagging you schmoe, you can tag yourself schmoe and then delete it.

Just like tags aren't private, the people who tag you aren't private either. Like on my profile, you can see that Andy has tagged me schmoe already.

Andy, nobody here said SMO=Spammers. My blog is primarily concerned with Social Networking. Much of my consulting pre-MyBlogLog had to do with Social Media and SEO. If they hated SMOs they wouldn't have hired me.

Social Media 'Optimizers' is a funny (I thought) way to refer to the way people game social networking sites.

in MyBlogLog News (significant) on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
Andy, the message cap is just one thing we're trying. There are several other methods that are currently being discussed and researched, one of which is my personal favorite, that are very close to a trial themselves.

My hope is that we can learn from the suggestions of users and strike a balance that most everyone is happy with...

You're right in that MBL is focusing on releasing an API. I love your MBL API post (not sure how I missed it initially as I subbed to your blog a long time ago) and your MBL wishlist. I've bookmarked both. Thanks for your continued communication. I always get much from your blog.
