Could this be a chance for the Republican's? Maryland is a funny situation... Nearly total Democrat, but we elect a Republican governor... I guess we trust the state to the Republican's, but we need the Democrats to run the social services within the state, especially in Montgomery county... You know Montgomery county is special... Why do you ask? Why do so many low income people come to Montgomery county? Because it's a handout county and we are all paying for it... No matter who or where you come from move to Montgomery county and they will make sure to build low income housing just so you'll stay... Typical Liberalism...

David as is the case in Maryland... Montgomery county is a haven for welfare and subsidized housing and these illegals get it all. I don't know what Montgomery advertizes to get them to come here, but it's in droves and the MS-13 gang members keep growing. As for the states being willing to give up their Federal funding you know that won't happen. They will eventually comply with the RealID mandate. Even if it is a National ID I'm not really bothered by that. As you've said they've got me if they want already. On the subject of losing our privacy and giving up our civil liberties I don't know anyone who's been affected in that way. I haven't... I'm sorry, but there are people in this country who will complain and whine about anything. Either the government does too much or not enough. If the RealID is such a bad thing why are all the illegals so upset?

Just to add to your comments here's a breakdown of the post WWII presidents and how their nominations were treated. As you can see Bush hasn't been treated very fairly. I think it is safe to say that the reason for the Democrat fillibuster is more to bash Bush. Something that can make Bush look bad is even above American security.

How and by who were we duped and who duped the UN? It would seem that every major intelligence agency worldwide was duped then. If we were duped it was due to the lack of accuracy of the intelligence coming out of Iraq. Saddam himself believed he had WMD, which he did by the way. It was his own scientist and military who were afraid for their lives that duped him. Based on information that was available and the UN resolutions against Iraq the invasion was justified.

By the way did you really mean to say the UN got smart? Havenâ€™t you been keeping up with the real reason they didnâ€™t support us? Why didnâ€™t Germany, France and Russia support the invasion? Was it because they just thought it wasnâ€™t a nice thing to do, or did they get caught with their hands in the till? When doesnâ€™t the UN get duped? The UN Secretary General is a crook and should be shot or at the least locked up for his scandalous lack of leadership. It is a great thing that we have someone like Bolton at the UN now. Maybe this league of depots, thugs and terrorist can be straightened out.

The first President Bush was pre 9/11, a whole decade passed before we invaded Iraq the second time and a whole lot has changed... The weapons inspectors were kicked out of the country and he continued to attack our forces as they patrolled the â€œno flyâ€™ zones. We were attacked by terrorists and the knowledge (belief) that Saddam had WMD and a known relationship with terrorist was even greater justification.

Sorry, youâ€™re wrong when it comes to W listening to pappy. Iâ€™m sure pappy was in full support of us invading Iraq. Bush 41 and 43 were entirely different times and thank God we have a President who will continue to fight the war on terrorism.

I totally agree with you Carol... I never want to be in the state she's been in for the past 15 years. If I can't walk to the bathroom myself pull the plug. As you stated we should never have gotten to this point. I like to listen to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other Conservative radio talk shows, but I couldn't stand the constant "save Terri" BS. As I see it she's been in a helpless state for all these years and I just cannot believe she wanted to continue. You weren't being morbid, just truthful.

Bush was elected for a number of reasons and one of them is that the American people know he has the balls to do what is needed to keep our country safe. I agree with you on invading Afghanistan. Invading Iraq was the correct thing to do based on the intelligence that was believed to be correct by most of the worlds intelligence community. It was the only action a president with balls could and should have done... If everyone in the world believed there were WMD's and there was a great possibility they would get into the terrorist hadns what should we have done, waited to be hit worse than 911 and then wonder why we didn't act. I would rather error on the side of American security than sit back and wait as Kerry and most Liberals would have us do. In regards to Iran I don't think an invasion is in anyone's plans. As you implied our troops are too streched and we still have our hands full in Iraq. Give it a little more time and Israel will take care of the nuclear issue with Iran. There is no way they are going to allow Iran to acquire a nuclear capacity that could strike them. Syria has been a thorn in our side for quite sometime and they need to be put in line. At least in respect to Syria there are other countries, including the French who have demaded Syria pull their troops out. Not that I would depend on the French for much help... I also believe quite a bit of Iraq's WMD's are hidden in Syria. Should they be allowed to keep them? There are a numnber of issues in the world today and until the rest of the free world gets off their asses the US may need to go it alone. We need to start worrying about China's military buildup and how that will affect our security interest and the Euo-weanies want to sell high tech weapon systems to them. The Euro-weanies have tried to get Iran to stop their nuclear program without much success and now we have Russia selling them nuclear fuel for ther nuclear plants... Sure it's only going to be used for electricity... So what does the US do? Sit back while all this goes on in the world and no other country seems to be able to recognize any threat... We are the one with the big stick and it needs to be used. What other country in the world would you want to be the Super Power?

Better to pound a nail with a screwdriver than to sit back and wait while no other country is able or willing to do anything about terrorism or stopping nuclear weapons to getting into the hands of countries like Iran... The US needs to be willing to do whatever it takes to prevent one of our cities from being hit by a nuclear, biological or chemical weapon. You know for a fact that if a WMD is obtained by Osama he will do whatever it takes to detonate it on our soil... I don't believe discipline and diplomacy can work with terrorist or rogue countries such as Syria or Iran. Korea is another problem, but over there you have Russia and China pressuring the little dwarf. They need to be hit with a big stick or a lot of little ones...

The bottom line is that there's a new sheriff in town and he uses a big stick...

Bush should be explaining to Assad that he bet on the wrong horse and it is time to pay up. Past administrations may have put up with those supporting terror against the US, but there is a new sheriff in town and he carries a really big stick. Assad will be given a choice. He can step aside peacefully and go into exile with his money or he can choose the Saddam retirement plan.

When the Syrians demonstrate in the streets for democracy, any suppression will trigger US military action. The pretext won't be support for democracy, but rather the need to nuetralize an enemy who has waged war against the US.

I think Assad will choose to avoid the Saddam retirement plan.

Here's a great article that should really dig deep into a Liberal's soul... It presents a number of thoughts and beliefs that for a typical Liberal should be a no brainer, but they cannot be true to their beliefs because of George Bush and the Republicans. Try reading proverbs to Al Qaeda or any terrorist and see how far you get... "A soft word turns away wrath" Are you out of your mind? France and Germany didn't back us against Iraq because their hands were in the till, nothing else... Russia didn't back us, because they had supplied weapons (WMD's) to Iraq... Bush was right going into Iraq and I believe there were WMD's that are now sitting either in Syria or Lebanon. America is the bully? Are we going down the blame America road? In the case of Iran we don't have to put troops on the ground to take them out... They are becoming a nuclear threat so what should we do? Lets just wait and see... I'm sure France and Germany and the rest of the Euro-weanies won't do anything militarily... They'll wait for the US to make a move and then criticize us... Syria will crumble from within as long as the US stays strong... No one wants to go to war, but they declared war on us. When a nuclear device is detonated in one of our cities who will we criticize then? Probably Bush for not doing enough... It's the blame America Liberal way...

I like the concept of starting a savings for newborns with a yearly contribution, but what about the children age 1-18? Where do they fit into this program? Will the government do catch up for them and if so where do those funds come from, or are they just out of luck? Indeed... The initial investment would be staggering... True the Social Security piggy bank is empty, but the system was setup as a pay-as-you-go program. It was not setup as an insurance policy. The reason the system is about to fail is due to the falling number of current workers supporting the number of retirees. This number is only going to get worse when we have the crunch of the Baby Boomer retirees leaving the workforce. I like the concept of private accounts for younger workers, but the AARP with it's partisan motives wants it killed. At your age I would think it would be something very favorable.

TThe question isn't how many 18 year olds are retiring in the next few years, thatâ€™s irrelevant... If the government were to begin such a program they would have grand-father all the children between the ages of 1-18 years old, or are they left out? How many children are there in that age group? What would that cost amount to? Staggering.... Don't get me wrong I think the concept is good and most people are not able to put away $2000 for each child per year... I do think this is unrealistic though... It is better to fix what we have now and allow younger workers the opportunity to control at least a part of their Social Security investments through private accounts, which would pass onto survivors. Also, if the government would be paying out $2000 per year for every child up until they reach 18 where do these funds come from? The government will also be paying out to current retirees and that number will continue to grow every year. The average worker in this country will end up paying for the 1-18 year olds investment accounts and the people already retired. There just are not enough workers to cover the number of people already retired and the coming Baby Boomers who are already beginning to retire...

I sure can't and won't even attempt to argue your point on oil supply and the need for alternative power. This issue has been thrashed around for decades and we're still no closer to a solution. Sure we can all start driving hybrids and conserve as much as possible, but how do we control countries such as China? Their economy is growing by leaps and bounds and their demand for oil will soon overtake the United States. The congress is pretty much split between the Democrats and Republicans, Liberals and Conservatives on their view of what should be done or not done. They've had an energy bill from President Bush that has failed to go anywhere. One thing the bill calls for is the building of new refineries and nuclear plants. Also, we are at the time of year when existing refineries need to start switching over to summer fuel... When will Congress set a standard to be used year long? You can imagine the cost of switching that is past onto us, the consumer. This fuel switching is something the Eco-maniacs have forced us to endure. I think we should build huge wind power systems up and down California and in tight-assed New England to ruin John Kerry and the Kennedy's view. At least now it seems we will begin oil exploration in ANWR. America needs to break away from depending on foreign oil one way or another. Extracting oil from ANWR is a good start; add to that the use of nuclear plants to provide electrical power would go a long way to tightening the noose around the necks of the OPEC countries.

China's populations is huge, but it's estimated that Indiaâ€™s population will outstrip China by 2030. India, at 1.103 billion people this year would reach 1.593 billion by 2050, China which has 1.316 billion now will reach 1.392 billion. Both of these countries are growing and will continue to drain the supply of oil. The bottom line is we need to find alternative energy and what's better than nuclear? Now that the Republican's have control of the White House, Congress, most of the governorships and state they should start pushing to build more reactors. The big problem will continue to be the Eco-maniacs who will do anything to save a toad, even jeopardize American security.

Increasing the number of nuclear plants around the country, especially in heavily populated areas would take a huge drain off the dependence on oil to generate electricity. Less fuel used for power leaves more fuel for your favorite SUV. This could be a reality in the "near future" if the public could be assured that the plants are safe. Oh and you'd also have to make sure no toads were jeopardized...

It callse for additional drilling for domestic oil and the use of coal for clean electricity production. It also calls for the increase in nucelar plants.

I would suggest going the MCSA/MCSE route and later the CCNA. The contract I'm on now with the State department is paying techs without certs $60+ and with a cert you can demand at least that amount. I agree with your thinking on Redhat. There just is not much demand compared to MS. It may be something good down the road as more organizations changeover, but not now.

I saw the photograph this morning and the article stated that the child had died. It is unfortunate that the MSM tends to only print news that tends to make the "American" military look bad. What else to expect from Liberals who blame American for the worlds problems. The intelligence was faulty, but the decision to invade Iraq was right. Better to err based on faulty intelligence than to do nothing and possibly lose thousands of American lives. A president has to act based on the intelligence he is given to keep Americans secure. As I went down the road they moved to the right waiting for me to pass and then again they veered into my path. If I had cut hard to the left I would have hit them. Nice way for some innocent immagrant to make a few dollars. Throw them all out is what I say...

Well now Aaron you seem to think you have me figured out, but you're wrong. I do support Bush in many of his decisions, especially the fight against terrorism and tax cuts, but for example I was totally against what occured during the Schiavo case. I am totally against Bush's handling of the Mexican border and his freindship with Vincente Fox. The Medicare/Medicaid deal with the Democrats is another sore spot. Both you and Dave seem to think the RealID won't do anything, but what's your alternative plan, or are you just saying something won't work without a plan like the Liberals? Do you support spending money to pay for illegal aliens medical care? If so why not give social medicine to everyone? That's the Liberal thing to do, isn't it? What's needed is a 20 foot solid wall up and down the border and anyone caught on our side without PROPER id gets tossed back. No more illegals having babies in our country and then being declared citizens. At least with the RealID it will have some affect on the illegals movement, especially in regards to airlines. I really don't care, as the Liberals are saying that the average citizen may have to wait longer in line to get their license. At least the illegals won't be able to get on period. We need stricter laws to control the onslaught and in states like Maryland you never will. As Michelle Malkin stated, Maryland has an asylum mentality and if you're not against that you're probably a closet Liberal. Oh, sorry you said you were an Independent... So that means you lean somewhat to the Left... LOL

Well now Aaron even Maureen will tell you that I have problems with some of Bush's policies.

"The INS is supposed to make sure people coming into this country are legit." True statement, but what about the ones that are here illegally and the thousands that come across daily? What about the states that protect the illegals, such as Maryland? Is that your alternative plan or are you just upset that you may have to stand in line longer to get your license? The ACLU is against the RealID also, are you card carrying member? It's a funny thing that the majority of the protests against the RealID were coming from the Left... Of course it's an infringement on our privacy... Oh my we might have to show someone our birth certificate...

In comment #9 you stated "If the Feds can mandate No Child Left Behind, surely they can mandate stricter guidelines on identification to the states." Well that's just what the RealID is going to do... Otherwise states like Maryland will continue to allow illegals to move into our neighborhoods, recruit more gang members (MS-13), require everyone to speak and read Spanish and as is the case in Maryland, especially Montgomery county build lower income housing for the poor illegal immigrants... It would not surprise me if Maryland eventually makes Spanish the official state language.

It's obvious you want something done, and I'm surprised you don't offer a better solution. I'm all for stricter laws and tighter borders so lets take the money from this Medicaid/Medicare plan to give medical aid to the illegals and build a really nice, electrified wall.

Actually Alexander Lamar's statement is not true concerning drivers license examiners needing to decide if the applicant is an al-Qaida terrorist... If they don't have the proper ID they will not be taking a test period...

I fully agree with you that it is the Federal governments job to control illegal immigration, but neither the Republicans or Democrats have done anything in recent history to stem the tide. 9/11 has forced us to look at other means of stemming this growth of illegals. Did you read the article about the protest in Rockville last weekend? The Montgomery county police wouldn't allow Michael Graham into the event, but of course being Marylan police they didn't do a thing regarding the illegals that were there. My point is that there are too many states and people in this country who feel the illegals have rights. They are not US citizens and they have no US rights... The RealID law may not be completely good or what we need, but it sure has pissed off a lot of illegals...

These people have the ability to change our way of life as they just did with the eminent domain decision and there is no way Bush would nominate a Liberal. He may nominate Gonzales to fill O'Connor's seat, which would not make Conservative's very happy, but then when Rhenquist retires, or dies you can bet a strict Conservative will be nominated as Chief Justice... Yes, I know what Constructionism is and also what is meant by Originalism, both something the Liberals of the Supreme Court cannot live by, as exampled by their recent decision concerning eminent domain and the right all Americans have to own personal property. OK, I agree with you that we'll call Bush a Constructionist when it comes to Judicial nominations... Granted he is not a Conservative in many other area's, especially in spending and immigration, which I totally disagree with him on.

I feel it would be a big mistake to put Lieberman on the high court no matter how moderate you feel he is as a Senator. There are other Senator's with a more Conservative (Constructionist) tilt who would help to bring order to a left leaning court. O'Connor was a swing vote with the Liberals on many occasions and I feel we need someone who will interpret the Constitution not by twisting its words, but by how it was originally written. Five Liberals on the court continue to do just the opposite...

You do have to read and listen with a grain of salt, but you also have to see the truth when it hits you in the face, which the Liberals have a problem with... Which is odd on its face, because if Wilson is so concerned about finding out who revealed the name of his wife -- who Wilson claims was somehow placed in personal jeopardy by the revelation -- shouldn't he want her to testify and reveal who told her what?

Here are Wilson's words: "The sentencing of Judith Miller to jail for refusing to disclose her sources is the direct result of the culture of unaccountability that infects the Bush White House from top to bottom....Thus has Ms Miller joined my wife, Valerie, and her twenty years of service to this nation as collateral damage in the smear campaign launched when I had the temerity to challenge the President on his assertion that Iraq had attempted to purchase uranium yellowcake from Africa."

This makes no sense. Judy Miller's jailing is the direct result of an effort to find out who revealed his wife's name. But there is at least one way in which it might make sense -- if Wilson is himself the original source.

Rove has already testified and the special prosecutor is not interested in him. Answer this question... Who is the NYTimes Judith Miller protecting? If the Times had any knowledge that it was Rove they would have nailed him in an instant. If it was anyone in the Administration they would have nailed them... They're protecting someone who will be a major embarassment to the Left... Rove was just the start for the rabid MSM and Liberals blood feast... In the end they will have blood on their hands, but it won't be Rove's... I think the idea that Wilson is the leak makes a lot of sense... Why is he defending Miller when he was the person who instigated the investigation? Why doesn't he want her to talk? If it was Rove he would be demanding she talk, not defending her...

I would have to agree with the second qoute. I think if you read Ann Coulter at all you have to understand why she says what she says... She definitely likes to get the Liberals blood boiling and will make statement knowing that's just what will happen. Concerning the qoute on invading their countries I believe this war will not be won until we start fighting it like a war. The problem with the U.S. is that we've gotten too nice... War is dirty and to win you need to fight harder and dirtier than your enemy... I don't condone killing civilians, and I don't think we intentionally do, even though the Liberals make their comments concerning all the innocent civilians our troops are killing. Funny thing it was an Iraqi who was involved with the 1993 bombing of the WTC and evidence that has been obtained since the overthrow of Saddam shows a very cozy relationship between Iraq and al Qaida. The Liberals also scream and yell that there were no WMD. True they were not found, but they were there and Saddam used them. My belief is that it's the Presidents duty to do whatever is necessary to protect America. With the intelligence that was available at the time, and not just from the CIA, but worldwide intelligence agencies, the president had no choice but to either have Iraq prove they did not have WMD or invade...

I'll have to totally agree with Aaron on what the litmus test should be, but we all know Robert's will be drilled by the Liberals... Fortunately, they don't have much on him to slander his name as they did Clarence Thomas. Hopefully with the nomination of Roberts we can start to turn the Supreme Courts course away from legislating from the bench, as they've done in recent years.

Bush will have at least one more nomination when Rehnquist retires, or dies and then hopefully Kennedy will leave one way or another and he can have another chance to beef up the court with justices who will interpret the Constitution in a Constructionist view instead of basing their interpretation on the which way the wind is blowing...

I also agree we will not see anything changed pertaining to Roe vs. Wade... In my eyes this is not an abortion issue, but a woman's rights issue. I personally don't want to see the decision reversed. I am against abortion, unless rape or incest has occurred

What part of the city did you live in? I grew up in what's called South Buffalo... I still have lots of relatives living there... My grandfather retired after 30 years at Bethlehem and both my father and uncle retired from the Chevy and Ford plants after 25 years...

Buffalo is a hard town to figure when you try to nail down being Liberal of Conservative. They voted heavily for Hillary, which I chewed them out on. The older folks are pretty much Liberals, which is pretty normal, because the MSM is always scaring them on one issue or another. People my age tend to lean more Conservative and well the younger growd is still lost over on the Left... They just don't know any better, as is the same with the older folks...

We are being overrun by illegals and the current admistration is not doing what is needed to stop the scourge from coming across our border. I can feel simpathy for the poor immigrants, but they are not what I worry about... There are too many others who carry weapons and move into our cities with criminal motives on their minds, such as Montgomery County, Maryland, which by the way is heavily Democratic... We have a major immigration problem and no one is doing what is needed. The Republicans seem to be sitting on their heels and the Democrats keep making false noise... I do feel it will be a Conservative that will make the charge and do what is necessary, not the Democrats... They never have... My view on religion is that they are just something created by man to gain power. One thing to remember is that religion has been the cause of more deaths throughout history than anything else... When did the governor of Louisiana request the aid? Diaster relief is suppose to be the responsibility of the local and state authorities and the Feds don't get involved until their aid is requested. One she doesn't want to run and two there are others as you mentioned, Giuliani and McCain who will grab the spotlight. I really like Condi and feel she could be a very good president, but that's not going to happen, not yet. Also, I'm not so sure the Hildabeaste will make it through the primaries. There's going to be a lot of skeletons dug up and thrown in her path. My biggest hope is that she loses her Senate seat from NY, which would put a dent in her presidential aspirations.

In my opinion there are many who should be ashamed for not showing their support and undermining the morale of our troops. If the Neocon agenda has only one plank, which is to establish American superiority through the use of military force, how did you come about putting the label on me? I do support the war on terror and the reasons for going to war were very clear at the time. The reasons were based on intelligence that was believed to be true by most countries in the West, Russia and even the UN. You have a list a mile long containing the names of the Democrat Party stating their belief that Sadaam was a threat to American security and he could not be allowed to continue with his drive to obtain WMD, including nuclear. The true is that if it had been a Democrat in office that decided to invade you would not have the anti-war agenda led by the Liberal MSM. Clinton would have had nothing but their full support. Ensuring the safety of our country and the American people a president does not have the luxury of "wait and see" when the evidence in hand threatens American security. Clinton and his administration played "wait and see' for eight years. Who knows how things would be today if he had acted earlier.Who knows if he had acted 9/11 may have been avoided. Based on what Richard Perle has written and believes I would say that gets mighty close to Communism. Isn't that their belief?

I never support war just for the sake of going to war... I outlined the reasons we had for going to war against Iraq and I supported them at the time. Knowing now that the evidence was not correct relating to the WMD, which to be truthful some were found, I still support the war on terror. Should we pull out of Iraq because our reasons were not entirely correct, NO... That would be a major mistake and anyone who wants to follow the fanatical Left lead by the likes of Cindy Sheehan and Moveon.org have no regard for the safety of our troops or our country.
