Have not come across Meglobe before though there a few different services such as this one. Have just added the google translate function to my igoogle. it seems to be pretty good, although not instant.

Given that Facebook was set up as a social utility rather than a business marketing facility it would seem unfair to judge it's usefulness on the basis of the later. As a simple means of keeping in touch with a lot of friends globally with limited time it seems to work quite well!

this is a really touching note on how communities rally in a time of need and a salient point made regarding how social media helps to connect. the www has, in the developed world anyway, mitigated borders increasing connections across and even within geographic communities, one can only hope it leads to better communities.
