in Michael Phelps to Promote Sub-Par Sandwiches in New Ad Campaign on Crispy on the Outside
I am a big fan of Subway and disagree that they are subpar. In NY or NJ yes, they would be, as the sandwich is an art there. But in DC they are pretty good. The BMT rocks.

in Smoke Alarm on Crispy on the Outside
I worry about this as I want to move to SF. To their credit, they have the best air in the US. But I think that is mostly because they have a huge breeze every day from the Pacific. It would be a major bummer if I could not grill there.

in Help us choose our wedding menu on Crispy on the Outside
The best wedding food I ever had was catered by A Taste of Morocco in Arlington. It was delicious and refreshing in how unpretentious it was. Vats of delicious Moroccan food in tin trays over sterno rocked really hard. All of the attendees loved it as in addition to being delicious the food created a relaxed atmosphere that most wedding receptions lack. Plus it was nice to know that the couple were not going into hock to pay for it.

in I Made Mooseburgers, Sarah Palin! on Crispy on the Outside
Your mooseburger article was brilliant. Obama isn't the only Democrat who has committed a yuppie food gaffe. Michael Dukakis was done in by suggesting that struggling Midwest farmers try growing Belgian endive instead of corn. Forget Willie Horton and the photo of him in the tank, the endive comment did Dukakis in.

in Brit Gov’t Drinks Measures Cause Brew-Ha-Ha on Crispy on the Outside
I have to stand up for the British system as in US bars you have no idea what you are getting and bars routinely sell "pints" that are not. I wish ABC's would enforce adhering to advertized glass size more than policing underaged drinking, which I completely support. I routinely remove "pint" glasses from DC bars, take them home and pour a beer into them. They are typically 12 oz, sometimes less, and never more. I think that ATF should investigate this.

The metric system: an abomination because its measurements are either too small or too large to be useful and easily understood. (I also believe that a factor in Carter losing to Reagan was the former's support of going metric. Children of the 70s will remember the puzzling miles/km conversion stickers on the dashboard.)

Too small example: the milliliter. There are 750 of them in a bottle of booze. Try to envision a milliliter, or 1/750th of a bottle. Then try to envision 20 of them in a recipe. The gram presents a similar problem, though some of us might be more familiar with that measurement.

Too large example: the meter. A one foot difference in a person's height is huge in reality but is a barely inperceptible 0.30 of a meter.

OMG I hate that group and Jacobson is a tool. I wish Julia Child were around to kick his butt.

in Chicken Kebob Tequila on Crispy on the Outside
Bourbon bacon sounds good. Chicken kebob tequila sounds like a vomit inducer. Yuck. My view: it is yummy to flavor meat with liquor, disgusting to flavor liquor with meat.

Kaz Sushi Bistro on Eye Street has great sakes. You can do a three sake sampler and will be guaranteed to have at least one be milky.

in Tired of the Same Memorial Day Meal? on Crispy on the Outside
Baby back ribs grilled for four hours over low coals, yum. FYI they cost me $15 a rack now, up from about $10 last summer. Since my hungry friends eat about half a rack each the formerly cheap dish is starting to feel like a party splurge.

in Readers, What Should $50 Get Me at Dean & DeLuca? on Crispy on the Outside
Cheese for sure. I would go for the epoisses and also get proscuitto de parma ($30/lb). They also have amazing Norwegian cured salmon.

in Because You Can’t Spell ‘Cheat’ Without ‘Eat’ on Crispy on the Outside
Another notable food network "cheat" is Robin Miller, who cooks one main ingredient (e.g. a pork loin) and then makes three different meals out of it.

in Obama’s Half-Eaten Waffle Briefly Auctioned on eBay on Crispy on the Outside
How do the candidates not get obese when on the campaign trail? Waffles, cheese steaks etc. are not exactly health food and I doubt that they have time to workout.

in PETA Acts Not Dumb on Crispy on the Outside
I went on a vegetarian diet to save the planet and gained 15 pounds. I am finally just about back to normal but will not be a veggie again.
