Unfortunately, President-Elect Obama is a pro-union advocate. He will not make any changes that will allow GM to cast off the chains of the unions. Also, and I may be mistaken, but I believe GM is held back by Michigan union laws, right? Isn't mostly a State legislative issue? So, I'm not sure how much the president could affect GM, in that regard.

GM should sit down with the union leads and explain that some jobs at a lower rate is going to be better than no jobs. Show the books, have the execs take big pay cuts (yeah, right! ) and be open about the situation. I don't think that would happen but it needs to.

This country IS great but to a point I agree with you. Its the Jingoism and blind patriotism that is bothersome. However, don't think that this type of diatribe is contained to the republicans ( I refuse to call them conservative because they're not). The Democrats love to make every issue a "crisis" and tell you that it can only be solved by government.

The dishonest arguments are on both sides of the aisle...

you're dead on...worry about yourself and take care of your own house first.

You hit on something...Republicans are not conservative anymore. They are no different than Dems. Its just a matter of priorities and actions. But they both want the government to handle everything and it sucks.

And its also true about the presidential election. People take that more seriously than their city council who have way more influence over your day to day than the feds.

I have to take exception....hockey is a legitimate sport!
