in The State Of The Web on How To Split An Atom
I think that in our insane world nothing is changing more rapidly than the net. It indeed grows bigger and bigger, and the pace just goes higher and higher. The next big thing however is 3d - all the evolving technologies will allow for us to participate more wholely on the net. 5 years from now... well, it's gonna be different, that's for sure.

sbspalding 3D is an interesting technology -but- I don't think it is being done well at the moment. The only way that 3D can make waves is if worlds can be created that actually add utility.

For example,

How does one do web search in 3D that is as easy as something like Google?

How does one send email in 3D?

It almost seems like 3D worlds would best be used as proxies for social networks, with access to the "real" internet inside of it.
