And between Alzheimer's and Brain Tumor... I really don't know and at this point I am thankful that I am not faced with either...

My prayer definately go out to her and her family. I pray that they find peace and clousure in this situation. Our society is not set up to care for us which is why the black family as a whole unit is so important. This family will definately need a strong support system.

They don't make "good music" the way they used to. Aretha is a classic in her own right so was Chaka, Gladys, etc. Man whenever I hear Aretha on that original "Sparkle" soundtrack, WOW! When she sings "Look Into Your Heart" I almost want to cry! That was back when music made you feel emotions other than wanting to have sex!
I love that soundtrack & that movie!

Nice list! you guys are funny with those concerts! We have alot in common. I took my kids to disney world summer 2006, and let me tell you we had a ball. And we had "kids" ranging in age from 12 -22! Taking my kids to Disney had been a goal of mine forever (when I was a kid my mom took my sister and I) and I finally got it done! When you get there head for the "Tower Of Terror"!

Anyway get to work on those goals, and you will accomplish them!

I grew up in that era and watching her grow has been awesome. I don't listen to too much secular music anymore but having kids I still stay pretty current with what is out there and I am so loving Mary's newest song. "Just Fine" is a great song, I love it. I prefered some of her older stuff (My Life...What!! yall better recognize!) but Just Fine is worth listening to.

21—Oprah campaigning for Barack will probably have it’s negative & positive aspects, He will get more exposure but people are there to see her not him.
20—this is happening to often, we have random acts of cowardice instead of random acts of kindness. It is very depressing but it is helping to increase my prayer life.
19—I took Spanish in school, and can’t speak a lick of it
18—I would love another day with my dad…

10- I didn’t watch the show (too busy blogging!!), but my daughter did and gave me regular updates. We were both totally shocked that Patti’s choir got the boot. My daughter thought they were clearly the best! Oh well that is showbiz!!

9- Sorry, would not waste the time to watch that!

8- My kids told me about the married rumor, and then on another blog I saw the tattoo. Maybe if she is married she can stop gapping her nasty legs open all the time!

7- What goes around comes around! Ike set that ball rolling long ago…

6- That was music back then; I don’t know what happened though. Favorite cut on that album was “Lady In My Life” second favorite was “Human Nature”

5- Yes, people are always quick to blame the parents, and it’s sad. I was a teen mom, who had a great parent; my choices were just that MY Choices! I pray that Jaime is prepared or at least mentally & spiritually supported.

4- I vaguely remember that show… Loved Mos Def!

3- I don’t watch the show, maybe if Traci Ellis Ross left…

2- Christmas morning breakfast with me and my kids & grandbaby, open gifts, then head over to my mom’s open more gifts, eat dinner & watch movies! Did I mention open gifts?

1-I finished my shopping this morning at 8am!

R Kelly disgusts me, but home girl should have known better. Her grown behing shoulda been at work anyway, not trying to get a R kelly picture!

Will Smith will be alright. People love his family friendly behind! (and that behind was pretty darn cute in I, Robot... sigh....)

J should have picked 1 job and stuck with it. you can't be president and a label artist, that is a conflict of interest. But does anyone really care... really.

So, I see you two have this subject on lock!!! But let me just say I totally agree with everything that you both wrote. My kids and I sit around and discuss this on a regular basis. Rap back in our day was fun (partly clean!!!) and basically harmless, the crap/garbage that is out now is disgusting, degrading, and totally senseless!
Growing up in NYC I was exposed to a whole different life and the crap that is out now doesn't even come close!

Man, back in the day Eric B & Rakim were the TRUTH!!! (I had the biggest crush ever on Eric B)! When my grand baby was born I was fortunate enough to be in the room, and mom was having a pretty difficult labor and my son was about 5 minutes from passing out so to lighten the mood, on the next push me and my son started singing "Push It"!! The doctor and midwife (both white) didn't know what to do but the other (black) nurse just started laughing! It lightened the mood!!

Marva, you and Ms.G should put our OSF into categories. Maybe assign a year for each Friday (for instance if we say that next Friday we will focus on 1966, etc.) that might be interesting.

But seriously, she tried too hard to "connect" with the people with her cute little faces, sayings and names, that IS NOT something I need in a president or vice president. Biden look and acted much more professional, and official. Palin answered questions like the answers were memorized (as they were), it was not real and it showed.
I can envision Obama/Biden in the white house getting things done, kicking butt and taking no prisoners, but when I think of McCain/Palin I envision an old man napping (as old men do) on the oval office couch, and a woman who has no clue what to do while grandpa sleeps so she does nothing while the country suffers..

I am not fond of her make up colors some time but she has talent for DAYS! She remade one of my all time favorite songs by an all time favorite old school singer and dhe did the song justice. Check out her rendition of "Poetry Man" originally sung by Pheobe Snow. Her is not as good as the original but she did a darn good job!

Wow, this is disappointing. I actually had no intentions of going to see this movie. I would have actually waited until it came out on DVD. I see I made the right decision. The trailers and previews did not really catch my intention, they seemed dark, dreary and disjointed (there is enough of that in real life) so I can wait.

Remember 3T (Tito's sons who formed a group)? They did better over seas then they did in the states. I think they had 2 or 3 albums.

LOL!!!! I always said we were a lot alike! I was in the car with my mom Friday and we were somewhere waiting for my sister, she turned and said what are you reading (mind you there was no book in my hand), I said nothing. She laughed and said Regina what book is in your bag today! (I did have a book in there but I would not give her the satisfaction of pulling it out) My fingers itched for 15 minutes till my sister showed up!!!!!

I went to the website to give it a listen and I must say I am so very disappointed. But I do give Whit an E for effort, I think this comeback was a hard one for her because we tend to be our own biggest critics.

Marva, I didn't watch the GMA but I did catch the video on the internet Since everyone (including the morning radio show) was talking about it and aside from how she sounded she looked happy and healthy and her energy level was off the chart. So she appeared to feel good being out there again, so maybe that will encourage her to keep working on getting that voice better.

But in all seriousness crap like this happens every day, racism and hate will never end in our life time. It amazes me that some people actually thought and say how can things like this still happen in America with a Black President. My response is Hatred is Universal, and Hatred respects no office no matter how high or what color.

Awesome post! This is a topic near and dear to my heart because I have not had health coverage in a long time. My last job was an interim position so there was no coverage provided and now I am unemployed so there is still no coverage. Thank God my youngest child has coverage but my other kids have none. So health care is a major issue for me.
