not only were the choices of phillips over beckham, especially with a stirker like crouch who is quite apt at scoring from crosses, and carson over the more experienced robinson unforgiveable, but also Mcclaren's leaving ashley cole on the bench for wayne bridge (especially after his 1st half performance) and his exclusion of hargreaves, the only player other than beckham to play with some semblance of desire during the world cup, for the often lackluster lampard were inexcusable. true, lamps scored the penalty; but it's a penalty, you're supposed to score. however, our criticism of Mcclaren and cries for him to be sacked won't get england a spot in austria and switzerland. and, as england fans have become accustomed to saying, there's always next time.

same here, i think smith is a very good striker as long as he has a good midfield behind him. if united were to buy berbatov, the club would most liekly have to sell carrick, saha, and brown (who's played fantastically in place of neville) to cover the 30 mil price tag. on an unrelated note, i have the combined good looks of c. ronaldo and beckham with an added ruggedness, and the ability to make women faint with a single glance. i just thought i should put that out there.

roxii, your point is duly noted. on to other things, has brown given a reason as to why he's been so reluctant to sign a new contract? he came up through the ranks at united, and within a year or two he will be the primary starter at right back because of neville's impending retirement. this whole situation just makes no sense to me. what footballer would give up a very good contract and assured first team football at the best club in england?

wow, pratik is still on about it. it's been what a week? how long will you kep making comments directed toward roxii and b-boy? the rest of your life? please just stick to the football.

a couple notes on the game: given should really be on a higher quality squad; if not for him, united could have hit double digits; also carrick has really come back into form after looking like a championship player in his last few outings, it's good to see him back in form and working well with anderson (who's really adapted to the premiership extremely well); lastly, it's sad to see smudger toiling in his usual determined fashion for a club which will surely struggle mightily for the rest of the season after losing big sam.

i'm not sure what fergie told the players at the half, but it worked. a truly emphatic way to reclaim the lead.

agreed, i've lived stateside for five years now and i support united all the same even though i can't attend the matches.

also i agree with ario on fletcher. we should sell him cheap to keano. god knows he could use the help. and if wes brown is adamant on not resigning the contract he's been offered and united are adamant on not giving him more money we should sell him as well. he's a great player but there's no sense in letting him go for free once the season ends. let simpson step into brown's role as the replacement for neville when the time comes.

the back four nearly made me **** myself a few times; i'm not sure why they played so badly at times. fortunately, either they would recover, vds would cover for them, or the reading player would waste the chance. united were also wasteful in front of goal; but as usual pulled out the win. and as cory mentioned hargreaves and carrick don't work well together because they both prefer the holding cm position; at cm it should be either anderson with hargo/carrick/fletcher or carrick and fletcher. at this point nani must be frustrated because even though park is a very good player, nani should be playing ahead of him.

pratik, england isn't playing in euro 08 because rooney, terry, and michael owen were hurt and because mcclaren is by far the least tactically skilled England manager in recent years. playing wright-phillips ahead of beckham when crouch is playing as a lone striker is just plain foolish, especially when it would make the most sense to have a winger with great crossing ability to play crosses in for your 2 meter tall striker (BECKHAM). it's even more dubious because he did so after wenger basically told him to play beckham. then he gives carson his competitive debut in goal in such a big game. i started to wonder if mccalren had lost his mind.

but congrats to united but we haven't won it yet and we can't forget about chelsea; they're lurking around ready to pounce if united and arsenal lose focus.

newcastle had the fighting spirit to at least warrant a replay; but panicked defending, shaky finishing, and a lack of overall quality lost them the game. also, fabregas blocked cacapa on the 2nd goal, but that's a moot point really

wow, it seems that the win against arsenal has singlehandedly improved the spurs overall play. true, our back line isn't nearly as good w/out vidic and our marking was a bit off; but as a side, the spurs played well. lucky for us we have giggsy, rooney, ronaldo, and tevez. at some point fergie will start playing anderson w/ hargo more often. many have said it, i'll repeat it, there really is a lack of creativity in the middle when carrick plays w/ hargo. but i guess scholes will be starting w/ anderson or hargo from now on, it's good to see old scholesy back on the field. right when he stepped on the pitch, he provided a scoring chance. and roxii, dawson clearly knocked the ball out of rooney's path and was the last defender; in my opinion it's a clear red.

the only really promising defenders i can think of that no one has mentioned is barragan from deportivo and taiwo from marseilles.

i totally agree w/ cory on the torres/rooney comparison. i've been a fan of torres since his atletico days; but if he's being marked by a physical defender who has good pace (rio ferdinand or puyol), he will will be rather ineffective. he is also much more of a target man than rooney, who will never score loads of goals(20+ in the league) because he prefers to drop deep and help out in midfield.

idrom that's also why i dislike egypt. but i'd say the they won was better tactics and poor defending by ivory coast. also, the egyptian goalie didn't make any great saves; all of drogba's shots were right at the keeper as was the free-kick. but i must admit zidan looks like he will be a very good player.

he is really bad; i've actually started watching the highlights on mute because of moments of pure commentary genius like this one, "Those of you with a keen eye might just notice a familiar face...he's a big, strong defender and he goes by the name of kolo toure." compared to this guy my commentary would be considered world-class. and i'm sure my voice isn't nearly as annoying.

wow, i never thought i'd hear an arsenal fan complaining about another team playing foreigners. wes brown was brought up in the manchester youth program; who was arsenal's english player on the pitch? walcott didn't play.

i'm sure it's already been said but i'll say it again both teams fielded weakened sides: no ronaldo, giggs, scholes, tevez, or hargo for united and arsenal were missing adebayor, flamini(who both subbed in), clichy, and sagna. i'd say united were missing more 1st choice players than arsenal

i'm not sure why there's been so much complaining about the result. a 1-1 draw away from OT in the champions league against lyon, who have won the french league for 6 straight years, is a fine result. giggs is in his mid thirties, give him a break; regardless of age every player has bad games and with age they occur more often. much like fletcher, scholes, and o'shea, he's earned his spot in the squad because of his years of admirable service to united. w/out giggs and scholes, united could never have completed a treble. so stop whining and appreciate their effort. nani is a great playe,r and in my opinion, he should play more; but his time will come.

i must say ramos is a fantastic manager. he adjusted his formations to fit the situation perfectly. chelski was almost never the better team and spurs seemed to want it more.

fulham were outplayed from the start; nani and park dominated the wings, scholes controlled the middle, and the back four held up well. fulham simply don't have the class to compete with united. putting rooney and ronaldo on with twenty minutes left and a two goal lead wasn't the nicest thing fergie's done. i think that fergie should try anderson at forward when united play derby so he can score a few goals because i'm getting tired of people criticizing him simply because he has yet to score.

united lost, it's simple as that. true, united had much more possession; yes, they had many, many oppurtunities to put the game away; also, i'm sure any reasonable person would say that there should have been a penalty for ronaldo and that kuszczak should not have been sent off. however, all of these are moot points because they will not change the result. united were much more inventive against pompey than against lyon but lacked any type of finishing touch.

to the arsenal supporters, are you really going to mock united...really? why wasn't arsenal playing in the cup today. oh, that's right; united knocked them out by beating them 4-0 and making a downright mockery of them. so please refrain from talking sh*t when we handed you your *** just a few weeks ago.

united have plenty of excuses at their disposal but really shouldn't use any of them. hopefully this loss will affect the team positively.

earlier in the season i thought anderson was easily more valuable than nani. but nani is starting to show his star potential, and anderson is startin to show his age in some of the recent games. he needs to be calmer with his passes (you can't go for the over the top ball every time you get the sight of goal) and more composed, epecially that volley attempt. scholes hasn't looked special all season, but he bossed the midfield today. great job by rooney great assists good movement in the box carragher and skertl could do nothing against him. i hate to say it, but giggsy looks past it; right after he came off, nani completely changed the look of the game. giggs is a united legend, but he needs to retire for his own sake. torres looked nice and cozy in rio's back pocket for the second game in a row. SAF, please give brown his money, the man is a great defender and has greatly improved his ability to come forward and support the attack. ronaldo, even though he had a somewhat quiet performance, killed the game off. all that's left now is the chelsea game at stamford bridge and arsenal at OT. let's keep the trophy where it belongs.

He dribbled past Essien several times and played very well in the first half. He didn't do as much in the second half because United barely had any possession outside of their own half. He had a solid game.

Not poor, wasteful. Especially anderson and nani. I think they had about 50 shots each. A bit of patience might have allowed us to break them down a bit earlier. Well done by welbeck when he came on.

I just want to put this out there. I'm in love with rafael da silva. I love everything about the lad, from his playing style to his hair style (the head pubes look is awesome).
