I had a conversation about this very episode today with a friend of mine who loves South Park (we have polar opposite opinions of the show). It's completely impossible for me to find humor in something that makes fun of, or makes light of the real struggles of real people...regardless of whether it's animated or not (which was part of her defense--"It's a cartoon!") :::rolling eyes:::
In any case, thanks for articulating so well what I attempted to communicate to her.

I have a good friend who is a missionary in Turkey. The day that this happened, she sent an email to let us all know about it and gave some specific prayer requests. Then she gave testimony to how the believers there were dealing with it:

"I spent the afternoon with a few of my believing friends and was already encouraged to hear them quoting scripture to each other and discussing their first thoughts when they heard….such as…when Jesus told his disciples that if the world hated him they will hate us also, and other passages that talk about us suffering and being hated for the sake of Christ. And within hours a few of the believers themselves were traveling to be with their brothers and sisters for comfort and encouragement…the body in action.

"Please remember all of us at this time, and let us all rejoice that one day all will be made right by God who judges justly, that these men did not love their lives even until death and did not shrink back in their time of trial, and soon we will all be together around the throne of our King, he ONLY delays so that more will know Him. May a harvest be brought about in this land."

I was in Germany when it happened.

I lost a bunch of stuff in my house fire a couple years ago...it's such a violative experience. Prayed for those people today.

Randy, I've always been encouraged by your responses to those who stand in direct opposition to you or to what you believe. And I'm always reminded of it when I'm interacting with those same types of people in my own life. Thanks for your example.

I would love to meet her as well. When I was in high school, I had some tapes of her singing, and was always so intrigued and inspired by her life. It challenges me.
