While we have to hit early shot we cannot take early stupid out of control shots. Breaking the zone is about thinking and patience. We need to show some tonight.

in US vs Guatemala Post Match Thoughts on Major League Soccer Talk
I really thought Jozy did well also last night.
Man this is a good post with what exactly needs to be said about EL TRI.
But just wait until the mexican fans find it. They always feel they are entitled to be like Brazil or Italia and simply will detest being compared unfavorably to Honduras or Jamaica.

James get f'n lost. This is the only site that actually covers Canes Basketball besides the paper sites. If you mention D. Scott on Martz and GFearman's site they'll flame on you. Maybe Kartik needs to post a disclaimer, something like "if you are a football fan only click here <link to Canes Sport or Canes Over Here>"

GREAT show guys.
I will state I sincerely hope you guys are wrong about Dequan Jones. After all the hype you have made it sound like he's useless.

Rios apparently looked good. I think you are totally over stating Hurdle's importance. I mean Hurdle was a JUCO whereas Eddie was a four star guy. We know who has the better talent based on that.

in MLS TV Ratings Worrying on Major League Soccer Talk
You seem surprised by this.
As Wendell Gee said who in their right mind would believe MLS clubs have the support EPL clubs do here in the US.
Even at MLS games as many people wear EPL kits!
The TV ratings are worrying, if you worry about MLS. Some of us realized after the Beckham hype died down that the league is actually regressing with less player development and good young talent than ever before and checked out.
The league was better in 1998. The previous golden generation of American players were all in MLS at the time along with Valderrama, Donadoni, Etcheverry, Cienfuegos, etc. Why you feel you need to compare 1998 with quality foreign players to 2008 with pin up models Beckham and Ljunberg making up the foreign contingent is silly. The results the league had in those days in CONCACAF and the TV ratings you list speak for itself as does the 2002 US World Cup team made up primarily of guys who had been in MLS between 1996 and 2000. The current US team has fewer and fewer MLS players and that speaks loudly of where the league is currently and obviously the viewers agree with that assessment.

in Randy Shannon vs Butch Davis: Shannon Wins Hands Down on Canes Rising
This is the most biased and one sided piece you have ever written.
Maybe you feel it's necessary to take shots at Butch now that he's at Carolina and he's beating up on us.
Maybe you are just trying to give our fans a morale boost heading into the final three games.
Whatever the case this article is slanted and quite frankly sickening.
Some facts please.
Shannon did not have 18 scholarships stripped from his recruiting for the first four years he's the coach. He's been able to offer kids what every other school we compete with offers them.
Butch took a team that started 1-3 in 1995 with the NCAA swirling around the program and SI calling for us to drop the program on the cover to the Big East title. We got hit with probation and couldn't get to the Orange Bowl. Shannon went 5-7 in his first year.
Butch beat Syracuse on the road in the last game of 1996 to split the Big East title. The Orangemen had beaten Texas who won the Big 12 and had won 8 in a row.
You seem to want to deny Miami actually won those games at West Virginia you mention. In one game Miami was ranked 25th and West Virginia 18th. In the other Miami was unranked and West Virginia was ranked I believe 10th or 11th. You can criticize the calls all you want but in both cases Davis beat ranked teams on the road. Shannon still has not accomplished this.
This article is being written for specific purpose. To excuse Shannon's two losses to UNC and to trash Butch Davis for not returning to Miami. In both cases I don't like it and expected better of you, kartik and this site.

the routes seemed better designed as well. the coaches have been saying for awhile the recievers weren't exactly following instructions well. this group seems to be getting it done and Harris is delivering.

in Chicago’s Mistake? on Major League Soccer Talk
This happens because the average MLS team is better than the average Premier League team. Everyone's impression of the England league is skewed by the top 4 teams but the opposition McBride faces week in and week out in MLS is tougher than he faced with Fulham.

Those are the most asinine comments re: quality of MLS football I have ever read. Period. You clearly know jack about this sport.
