Twitter + Pownce seem determined to define user experiences by how *they* perceive social networking spam is manifesting + not through a user's POV [top-down ftl]. Fer feck's sake, couldn't they [insert lightbulb-above-head-*flash*-here] simply give users an *option* of Follow Throttling while keeping a Big-Bro-like eye on accounts extremely out of whack?

Re: 2008/08/12/twitter-pownce-following-limits/

Dearest Timbo bribemeister,

No need 2 apologise, sir. 'Twould b my distinct pleasure 2 offer u a quick explanation as 2 y Twitter [+ other microblogging services such as Identi.ca] actually do matter. + I'll use a basic example based on ur proffered linkbait [ie the website u've chosen 2 link directly ur name]. Imagine 4 a moment that this link that shoots straight 2 ur MySpace page isn't filled with blatant self-promotion with stylized comments on a customisable template, but instead contains legitimate "ins" [focal communication points] where ur listeners/acquaintances/[wannabe?]groupies can exchange insights/snippets/tidbits with each other. Imagine, if u will, the implicit joy of said ppl actually exchanging everyday life-stuff thru a funkay/fit/wicked space designed by smart myopic weevils [ie techheads] who cry tears of joy every time a user gets their immersion wings.

Starting to get the messy picture Timbo? The reason micro-blogging services matter is that they act 2 connect ppl who want 2 share their "bits" [in all their cruddy glory] + provoke engagement with content that doesn't simply act 2 promote/flog/spew info that any o' advertising blipvert can....

Btw ur muzac isn't half bad.

Re: 2008/08/12/twitter-pownce-following-limits/

*hi_5's Michael*.

Good call. I must say, tho, if ppl comment "I don't understand [insert ur choice of sparkling-soc-net] blah start-up" that's fine - just gives us a chance 2 burble explanations. Timbo seems itchingly negative about microblogging generally, which smacks of ignorance or self-promotion.

Tho, Timbo dearest, if u do write back with a astoundingly well-craft retort with relevant reasoning as *y* u assume micro-blogging is a crushingly huge time-waster + manage to work in the issue under discussion [follow-throtting] I'll be happy 2 eat my [obviously stylish] credibility shorts.

Re: 2008/08/13/freedom-of-information/

The DefCon haxxor speech halting reminds me of the [awesomely] ridiculous overreaction 2 the _AQHF_ [Aqua Teen Hunger Force] Boston "incident". Keep in mind, I love noise, but everyone I show it to pushes back. My wife says "I don't get it." That's because FriendFeed hasn't improved its choices for how things get delivered to you. It hasn't given us any new noise filtering mechanisms. I hear they are working on rebuilding the back end, so I'll be patient, but in the meantime FriendFeed's growth has stalled and it won't improve until they give us some real improvements."

Re: 2008/08/20/friendfeed-for-collaboration/

makes absolute sense. + glad 2 read u do enjoy a good o' fashioned comment-stream immersion, chris [yay!]. i'm chronically amazed @ the fact so many "professional" soc_netters view comments as nothing more than an unavoidable blipvertish adjunct 2 the "primary" [ie parent] message/stream. so old skool.

+ interesting re scoble's opinion = bleeding edge. i tend 2 agree with him in terms of the _FF_ filter factor [revamp ftw!] but am unsure as 2 any degenerative _FF_ progression. i tend 2 think the core _FF_ user-base will fluctuate according 2 the usefulness of any successive modifications or emergence of viable competitor services/start-ups.

regarding ur healthy projection for _FF_'s business users, can u define a workable definition of "long duration"? thx.

Re: Top 6 Augmented Reality Mobile Apps [Videos]

Why on earth haven't you included this *fantastic* AR app?:
_New "cup 'o' tea" Augmented Reality App_:

http://brendandawes.posterous.com/magneticnorth...

[Heh].

[Cuts down the hype tripe, tho, dunnit?;)]

On a more serious note, most of the apps you've outlined above have been included in this three part series outlining a theoretical framework ["Social Tesseracting"] that explains the relevancy of AR tech:
http://arsvirtuafoundation.org/research/2009/03...

I'm also maintaining a Augmented Reality Facebook page here:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/_Augmentology-1L0...
...that collates a bunch of AR resources.

Chunks,
@netwurker

Re: The new way to look like a dork with an iPhone: Augmented Reality

If, like Robert, ur down with embracing ur inner AR dork: consider joining the _Augmentology 1[L]0[L]1_ Facebook Page for real-time streaming of synthetic reality resources and all-thangs-tech-augmented:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/_Augmentology-1L0...

Re: The new way to look like a dork with an iPhone: Augmented Reality

...compare this with OLED data glasses:
http://www.gizmag.com/oled-data-glasses-give-we...

[clunky chalk vs smicko cheese;)]

Re: The new way to look like a dork with an iPhone: Augmented Reality

Rob, have u watched Bruce Sterling's blurbing re: " At the Dawn of the Augmented Reality Industry" @ the Layar Launch Event?
