in Are Web 2.0 startups wasting their time with Web 2.0 early adopters? on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chenedit: TechCrunch's Elevator Pitch site - even more reason not to waste my time.

in Are Web 2.0 startups wasting their time with Web 2.0 early adopters? on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_ChenBack in April I got an email from TechCruch with an offer to shoot a 60 second pitch for my company. They were doing a ton of these setups before the TC/PopSugar event. They only gave me 48 hours to prepare but I was excited anyway.
A couple hours later I came to my senses. Why do I want to bust my ass for 2 days to be featured on the TechCrunch site? I am not looking for funding and my target audience is 15-25 year olds.

in From analog dollars to digital pennies: The crisis in traditional media on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_ChenI don't think the question is if the media companies will learn to take advantage of new media distribution, it's when. An believe me, when they figure the medium out the rise to fame of Miley Cyrus may seem innocent in retrospect.
The studios are focused on transitioning old media cash cow businesses like Home Video to digital distribution, but it's a tricky game to play. Retailers still hold a lot of leverage and there are tons of legal and guild issues that need to be worked out to pave the way.
In the meantime, the new media innovations that you refer to are being made by people that tend to innovate (small companies). The media companies have plenty resources to acquire the assets that they need to get into the game when the time is right. Some folks like Newscorp are well on their way, other folks are much more conservative.

in Facebook Walks Fine Line With App Developers on AllFacebookAt the end of the day if your app could be a "core" feature then you are at risk.
I loved Kapor's speech @ CN. I am not sure how many people were listening because it did not seem to make the impact that it deserved. Some of my notes in case you don't have time to watch the whole vid:
Fundamental tensions:
1) The platform owner has fundamental power over application developer
2) Innovations migrate over time to the core platform
3) Some platform owners want to control the whole ecosystem
4) Platform owners need platform users but platform owners are destined to encroach on their users
Examples:
* MSFT incorporating IE into windows to cut off netscape
* MSFT Incorporated media player into OS cutting off real player (lawsuit still in cour in EU)
* Linden labs incorporated money exchange services into businesses because ti was core - pushed startups out

in What is Facebook's Slogan Saying on AllFacebook- No personality
- The tagline is not "bigger" than the product itself. What is it about connecting people that is important?
- It's too damn functional - I can just hear Zuckerberg saying it. I think they need to move towards something evocative.
