in Lessons From a Failed Startup: The Overview on Tom Markiewicz
Tom,

Well I can't wait to read you follow-on post. As an entrepreneur I don't see anything as a failure but rather has a learning experience and a part of the journey. I know that what happened with your last venture will be key to your next success.

Thanks for writing this blog post Jimmy. That's absolutely absurd. It makes me very angry...which I know isn't the right thing. Just like you said - the troops don't start the wars but they are ALWAYS there to protect this country. Those military personnel are really taking the high ground not responding and "fighting" back.

in PR secrets? bullshit. on Loic Le Meur
I think you make some excellent points Loic! But the unwritten points you are making is that it takes time, effort and hands-on approach. Many Founders and CEOs fail to understand that - you have to setup the ground work as you are building your product. You can just start you startup and that overnight the community is going to exist. That's why some folks turn to PR companies because they want to leverage all the ground work those folks have supposedly already established. However, like you said...YOU are the best spoke person to initiate support and evangelism for your own product - not some other guy.

in Who Am I Really on Chris Brogan
Very beautifully expressed! I love what you wrote and who you are because you are a true and genuinely caring person. The world belongs to explorers and the real new world is exploring who we are as people, as the human race. Glad to be part of it without you and celebrating our birthday is about celebrating the opportunities we've been given through having been given life!!

in What’s the Future of D.C. Technology? on Social Times
Nick...you know this is a topic near and dear to me and I've been continuously brewing on it. I will do a post to share my full thoughts but you hit on all the major points. I think everyone still needs to be more active. We're not there yet because we haven't cracked the nut on what role everyone is playing to grow our community. It involves different involvement for the various people in the community.

in Five Levels of Social Conversation on Chris Brogan
I guess they are not yet common and not sure if you would put them in one of the already listed category...but what about Advice Show or How-to shows. I'm guessing we might start seeing more of them on platforms like YahooLive and Seesmic.

You think this is some competition for Seesmic which looked like they were starting to run away with that market?

Hey...if people are looking to spend more time offline that's good for us!! I actually think people are going more for sites like Twitter, Pownce and Seesmic where the online interaction is immediate. People want to connect...they want to interact. They're going to places online where they can do that and that "live" interaction is what keeps them from getting bored.

Well Pete, you admitting your shortcomings in the interview in this post is a good start to somewhat redeeming yourself. I'm going to take a guess here but it sounded like you weren't comfortable covering the information and gonna guess it's because you live it everyday and you know it like the back of your hand. You want to just brush over it while Bambi wanted you to explain more to educate her viewers. Sometimes it's annoying to explain what we know so well - and be irritated by figures we know aren't relevant but it's always best to take the educational approach. You have a lot of knowledge in the online social sphere many don't...keep that in the back of your mind so you can come across educating others vice well...something else.

P.S. Looking good though ;-)

I certainly hope that Matt can appreciate your mentorship even if it might be currently rubbing him the wrong way. One thing to remember with development is that it is very unlikely you will meet the deadlines you set. Which means you have to hold off on the hype, and releasing hard dates. It's easy to get excited and want to create hype but it will burn you time and time again. You have to learn and get familiar with your development team and cycles before betting the farm on solid dates.

Hype once created also has to be maintained...that takes time and a solid budget. It's much better to pace yourself. I'm realizing that myself. Stabilizing your product, initiating the next phases for delivery and building the rapport and listening to you first followers are part of the initial stages after release. You released to deliver a product...let your users use it and let them be the backing to your hype. Loyalty is very hard to get on the web.

I could go on and on...guess what I wanted to say is that Matt you are lucky to have Micah provide you some guidance. Listen to those who have been there and know a thing or two.

Thank you Micah! Wow...nice post. And sorry it's taken me 2 days to get to reading it :( I tell you one thing I hadn't anticipated was being able to properly manage my time after launch. There are so many people to thank for coming by the site, for writing about us and talking about us. I hate just doing broad messages and not be able to give it the personal touch people deserve.

BTW, I did start following based on the same people we run with and you have a wonderful blog that I enjoy reading.

Thanks again.

I love Pownce...it's truly a tight and helpful community. I'm glad they went mobile, but I hope being mobile won't change the fact that people express themselves with more then 140 characters.

Pownce still needs a better way to keep track of your threads and the replies to other people's threads. If you're very active on the site it tough to not miss something.

in Interview With Hooman Radfar of Clearspring on Social Times
Pretty decent interview...not sure about Hooman's choice of posture but he did an excellent job answering the questions. I think if you do this type of interviewing what might help is for you to provide your questions to the person ahead of time. Not everyone is as well versed as Hooman.

The camera was a little shaky so if someone was holging the camera I would put it on the tripod next time. At some point it kinda seemed like you were bombarding him with questions, so nothing wrong with a little small talk in between the questions. I'm sure you'll do that more as you get comfortable with it. You did towards the end.

All and all great stuff.

in Being Confident on The (late) Breakfast Society
I have many thoughts on confidence. Way too many to even start to talk about them in a comment box...and I am planning on writing a workbook on how to develop supreme confidence. Supreme confidence is the type of confidence that is deeply rooted in who you are and not affected by circumstances or other outside sources. I will leave you with my quote "You don't need it all to have confidence, but you need confidence to have it all" Ann
