Thanks for the mention, sweet! :~) Sorry I am so late in reading this. I have been working on a big project and not much time for anything else. I see in your picture above that you had 508 unread items, I haven't even opened mine this morning, oh boy.. These are the days that some people get skimmed, or skipped...

Google Alerts is a great tool, I have had that setup for quite a while and it is great. I have a few other businesses and this tool helps me keep up with the competition.

Finally my time saving daily, well sort of; Don't laugh, but I use Microsoft Outlook. I have 6 different emails for my companies not including my personal ones (gmail and thejimgaudet). Outlook makes it easy to check and organize them all, but my main reason for using it is to support my clients.

One of the biggest problems with so many emails is that my in-boxes can become cluttered with my "to do list".

So, in Outlook you have the Follow Up feature, which I use heavily and it helps me to organize my work (network admin stuff, web design stuff, crap to check out, etc.) Basically I just click the follow up, schedule my time to do this (in a block of time I have for each work mode I am in) and then put that email into a saved folder.

This serves two purposes. First, I am able to look at each email at a time and make a decision on it, now or later. And second, I will not forget to do something because it is buried in with a bunch of other emails.

I have my own system now. I spend each day reading my personal news, Google Reader.. I only click on the Titles I want to read (yup, you won today!) then if I do read it, I try to add a comment if I can. But, I do make sure to add it to SM, Stumble, reddit, digg, twitter, delicious and facebook mainly..I have decided on those only and don't even mess with the others.

If you are out just looking to comment and get links, or vote for traffic it will not work. These sites do not have idiots working for them, they will catch you and ban your site and then you are done.

I haven't looked at the social side yet, I can't get any free time it is all spent on Twitter, Facebook and Freindfeed..

But I do plan on spending some time organizing my D account and checking out the networking. It's just scheduled down the road a bit...

I would say that Delicious has changed my habits. I used to spend a day organizing my bookmarks, blah blah... Now, I just tag it on D. I can go there any time I want from anywhere and search by tag.

And, that's not even the social part...

Well, how are the Brave's at building up hitters. I know that their pitching coaches are some of the best and ATL has breed some of the best pitchers, ever. But, I am not so sure on the hitting prospects.

My Voice... For me I am the same. Believe it or not, but I talk to everyone the same. I have made it very important that my clients know who I am as a person, so when they do search the internet for me there are no surprises.

I think that changing my voice would be the worse thing I could do to myself. I believe that my clients like the person I am and the work I do, so this is why they stay with me. Even when my clients are in the US and I live in Costa Rica.

* a typo. Please check your spelling.
* your search includes a term that is very rare. Try to find a more common substitute.
* too many search terms. Please try fewer terms.

Finally, try to think of different words to describe your search.

If you say something crazy more people listen to you. I think he is his way because that is how he gets more attention. These things he says can never happen simply because the people who run the country are the big money people, not the everyday Americans as stated in the first line. 400 to 150 million, that is an outrageous number.

Couldn't they help out? But they would never. Then CEO's making almost 400 times their average employee. It is these things that make me go crazy.

That is what I do not understand. I am not rich, but I give away so much. I bill at half the rate of most people with my skills,and it is plenty for me. Why someone needs to have billions of dpllars and not help out is beyond me.

@Havvy - Regulations are needed, but who will regulate and who will regulate the one regulators. A never ending problem. ON point 10 "If we really are itching to print up a trillion dollars, instead of giving it to a few rich people, why don’t we give it to ourselves?" Maybe creating a "people's bank" isn't the correct idea, but I can't see putting the money back into the hands of the people who misused it in the first place.

@Ben - Are you saying that Michael Moore is speaking like a Communist? Do you not think that it is greedy to own a company and make 400 times more than the employees who actually make it work. To get paid just for an idea, and not get paid for the labor. I guess I don't understand.

I guess I was adding the bit about advertising because of Cath Lawson (http://cathlawson.com/blog/) wrote about the other day. She was talking about the sale of bankaholic.com for $15 million. Then I read about a your girl who is a millionaire basically from AdSense, but she gets 60 million page views a month.

I don't plan on my blog making me any money, but I do plan on selling a website at some point for a ton of money.

BTW there are no ads in this post, there are the standard in the sidebar though.

@Jamie - I think this is why most people disagree with the Secret. People need to understand that you can only be positive or negative and which ever you are is what makes the universe give you that back.

So you may not become a millionaire, but you may very well be extremely happy. And that, to me, is worth a million dollars.

I do agree that "that a negative attitude is conducive to negative behavior, while a positive attitude breeds positive action." to a certain extent.

There are always going to be bad times, because no one is perfect. I can not train myself to be positive all the time. I really try, but I can not achieve it. So far.

Bad things do happen to good people, but can we say how they were feeling before that happened to them? Were they sad? Or was everything perfect, this we can't know.

What I do know is that since I have been trying to be positive, more good things have happened to me.

Seriously, there are no street names. I have an address in Miami and I pick up my mail at the mail. Takes forever...I don't get any mail anyway.

There are a few places where they are starting to put in street names,but only a few.

For me I have a system that works pretty well. If you are my friend (on my blogroll or a close friend) then you will get the Social Treatment for your posts. If you are not a friend, then you only get the treatment if I spend the time to read your post. Like or dislike if I read it you get the ST.

I am such a bad person to be asking at the moment since I have been abandoning my blog. Bot totally, but just haven't had the time. :(

Mainly I want to learn about internet marketing. Using my blog to generate relevant traffic to my site. As much as I think I know, I KNOW that it isn't enough. Listening to the way others work will help me understand more. I think you do a great job of engaging with your readers and I like the design of your site. No footer? I think in Google's eyes you should have at least a Privacy Policy, Disclosure or Disclaimer there. They could be anywhere, actually but most people look here for them.

I am sorry I can't think of anything else at the moment, if I do I will come back.

I wanted to mention something about number 2, you spoke briefly about it but I wanted to elaborate.

In the eyes of search engines, back links are very important. Also, the power of that back link including the relevance to your site. Recently Google announced that the links from directories will carry less weight than in the past, but still ok.

So go out and get as many links as you can, just try to make them as relevant to your site as you can.

Funny, the only thing I care about is my name, not my title. I could spend an entire week writing up all the things I have done and then trying to organize them, but what a waste of time.

So only my name, and once day the Singer / Songwriter (www.jimgaudet.com) will have to give me my domain. How he is older than me, so it is really his name, but I want it....

I am afraid to hit the notify button on this blog, but I have to. Chris, can you put a link to RSS comments for this post, right underneath the notify button? I would much rather read the comments in Google Reader, than have 150 emails from chrisbrogan.com.

I do value reading the comments, that is why I ask. I am not even sure you could possibly read all these comments yourself, especially since I saw those 2 "Panda Anti Virus" comments from "Jack" come through on one of your older posts.

So finally my response;

"Stop trying to do it all yourself." -- This one hits me in the face like a brick. Until I learned that I could trust others to help me, I was never successful. now I have many trusted employees and a more happy and successful life.

"Learn from brilliant people" -- Now what else is the 'net for? With blogs and twitter, I can now listen to the people who make changes in the world. With time I can learn from them, maybe connect with them. Whenever I read something that I think is intelligent, or that I could learn from this person, I add them to my RSS list. Which is huge now.

With these people, I have learned so much that I could not write it down. I have had the opportunity to help others as well.

Well, time to turn on the "Chris Brogan" filter in my email....

It's great that you try to answer everyone, but how do you not go crazy. I only follow 40 something users and my Tweetdeck is buzzing non stop. I just have to shut it off.

I do, however, live in Costa Rica and cannot get a dcent mobile device. Maybe it will change then, but when I am in front on the computer I need to work.

I truly enjoy reading what you have to say, along with many others. In fact it helps me to keep up with whats happening much better than RSS.

BTW, I would never unfollow you (well unless you became an idiot). I couldn't imagine who would not want to listen. I think Twitter has become the only way to keep up to date on whatever niche you follow.

I only have one question, isn't it unsafe to be twitting in your car??

I use all open source for my website. I have a forum, well I have started entering into yet, but it is there. A free open source run on PHP and MySQL.

Also, signing up and posting on forums is a good (not great - but does help) back link strategy. If you are truly helping people and post properly, you can get a signature put into your posts. But getting them from big forums helps.

@Kosmo : I was only able to get one phone number with GV, but I don't if you can get more. Todd says it right here

GV gives you so many options, if you have them in your contacts already. But, I can group my family and business then send the phone calls to the appropriate phone line that is "attached" to GV. So, my family gets my cell in Costa Rica and everyone else gets my Vonage box...

When you first setup GV, you will need to be at the phone to set it up. So, your theory would work if you were setting up the GV for them. Let's say you setup a GV account for your friend using a dummy gmail account. Then they want to get a GV account and then can't because you have used their phone number already.

It could work, but only if you know your friend is not going to get a GV account, and they are their to help you sign up, since they call the phone number and ask for a security code..

Does that make sense?

Great job. I do web design and have helped some PR sites, only PR4. But, that PR4 has given me a PR3 in less than a year.

Links are so important, but relevant links are more important. Plus, make sure your link is coming from a DOMAIN that has a great PR and Alexa rank.

Your first post has a PR5, NICE!!! the second has no PR, as of now..

I think you probably have a lot of great comments on nofollow blogs or you have a great link building scheme.
I need to read how you guest posted, I think that will help me a lot. Although for me, I do not want too many people on my blog since I do not write enough posts. But a PR is great for the future when I have the time.

I think that 80% of all searches are informational in nature, meaning Wolfram has attacked the largest sector of the market.

Let's say I moving to Costa Rica and finding info on Google; I will get WIKI of course, then some F!@#ing YouTube taking up the whole damn screen, and then I can get the CIA facts section that I really wanted.

When I search in Wolfram I get exactly what I want, great job on that. Of course, if I want some inside info (blog perhaps) I will still go to Google.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I am in Costa Rica and their are a lot of tourists here. But I am from the east coast (RI really but spent a lot of time in MA) and I have the same trouble.

I am really trying to use Friendfeed more. The conversations are great over there, but it's not that big. I am working on a FF post, maybe something like this..

My first site was about Michael Jordan in '95. Just toying around I put a counter on it and forgot about it for a year. I had links to video clips, audio files and pictures. But they I got bored.

I started working at a computer company and someone asked me about websites so I pointed them to that site, 2 years later... Counter: 5,000,000 + hits...

I wish I knew then what I knew now, what is that they say

@Aaron : agreed man. I try to focus on comments, but not for back links. I do it because the real conversation is there. Reading an informational article and having no way to converse about it, it ancient IMO.

Want to know about Boston? Find a blogger who lives there and get real information..

Yeah, I noticed the z-index issue on the Sociable links and the G-ad. I will browse around for a while and see if anything weird happens.

Everything is great. I really like the idea of not having anything on the sides. If I didn't just re-do my site, I think I would go with something like this.

I am sure we will see some sort of clickable pop out on the sides.

The only thing I would do is add some hover effects to the social buttons in the social bar and the big ones above the comments. Like 50% opacity or something, that's pretty norm
