Back in 2005/2006, I formulated a set of Jarvis Mantras based on the torrent of commandments issued by Jeff Jarvis on buzzmachine.com up until then:

-Local trumps national
-Frequent updates
-Passion
-Voice
-Cite and credit
-Some form of experience or expertise
-News is a two-way conversation

I don't think his failed attempt to install and use it for a brief amount of time counts as experience or expertise from a resident standpoint.

(It does count as experience from a "failed first hour" experience, but I don't think that's his point in that post.)

Right now, there's over tens of thousands of people who have figured it out enough to get online or get a bot account online.

You'd think of the people Jarvis knows, someone could get him going enough so he's on better footing than, say, a hit-and-run British tabloid journalist.

I, for one, have no fear that people will think that I am nutty.

After a long struggle with it, I came to the conclusion that I am nutty, and that people are right in thinking so.

I've also come to the conclusion that their reaction is usually a demonstration of their inability to come to grips with their own nuttiness.

Amazing, how in a world where upside-down pyramids can rotate on their point, people feel the need to put on blinders in order to remain on firm ground and comfortable.

Or, as I like to put it: "Every button on the Wonkavator is right there for the pressing, and y'all want to take THE STAIRS?"

I think a lot of people partnering in SL that are already partnered in RL should have a listen to Randy Travis' "On The Other Hand" a few times until things get clear in their heads.

Although, when you ponder SL and country music, George Strait's "The Chair" would be a whole lot shorter:

Nest 1.0 is ready. Nest 1.1 can be built pretty fast... uses a torus.

Working on designing Nest 2.0 out of individual bent twig prims.

I'm using a stack of coffee stirrers to model it and will photograph my model when I've made progress.

That's me... trying to get into the brain of a bird. The bird-brain.

There was also:
-Gomem Decosta's House of Plaid
-Every time someone asked for a TP, I'd teleport out somewhere else and TP them to there before control-shift-H back home.
-Switching teleporters in base of tower to dump people in the water
-Setting front door script to shut after half a second.
- Invisible loop-barriers acting like The Club, locking one of the airships in place in case anybody tried to use it.
-Sideways photos in the VIP lounge (That's going to be permanent)
-DST x2 (I guess nobody noticed the fact that I changed all the clocks an hour ahead again for REAL daylight savings time, I guess.)
-Offering rides on mainland in airship, then derezzing it and saying "POP!"

I keep a replica of that nest (with eggs) in my ForeFront Media office to remind me that the best ideas come from creative collaboration. A lit candle under a bell jar, no matter how brightly it burns, will eventually snuff out if kept isolated.

I should also keep a bucket of Kentucky Fried Heron on the bookshelf to remind me that some of the WORST ideas come from creative collaboration, too. ;)

I have a ritual called "Three Ya, See Ya!" that I do on the third of every month where I go through every contacts or friends or buddies or subscriptions list I have and then wipe out the ones I don't need to don't want, regardless of whether folks will be hurt if they end up tossed.

I also rankle at the use of "Friends" or "Buddies" instead of the neutral "Contacts" term. Skype has that neutral term, and I like it.

I mean, if I'm following X's posts or online status because they are my enemy, I'd hardly want that as a Friend, right?

Sure, Abraham Lincoln said "I destroy my enemy when I make him my friend" but I don't think Honest Abe had SL or AOL IM in mind.

(I also have a "Three Ya, See Ya!" dance, "Three Ya, See Ya!" song, and "Three Ya, See Ya!" candle I light to complete the ritual. Then, when the ritual is over, there is the Sacrificing Of The Can Of Cherry Coke Zero.)
