in Vodafone in trouble with ASA on Mobile Industry Review
They cannot do anything except speak those words in the ad, as including those words in every ad is a legal requirement. It's verbal small print.

in Help me out re: Disqus on Mobile Industry Review
If you mean a combined feed for news and comments, no there wasn't a combined one, but there was a full feed for each.
The feedburner urls you list stopped updating. The news one has resumed today, the comments one is still not getting any thing new.

Both have been updating all day for me (and since the change). Are you sure you're using the _new_ Disqus comments feed?

in Help me out re: Disqus on Mobile Industry Review
The new RSS feeds provide a different service. The old feeds for both news and comments provided the full text and pictures for each item, on both mobile and PC versions. The new feeds are text only, and stop after the first few lines, with the need to connect to the web page to get the full item.
This requires a lot more effort to read the items, and stops me from reading offline on my mobile.
Not good, not good at all.

Was there ever a combined feed for both?
The normal full feed RSS is here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/smstextnews/ and the comments feed is listed above (also full AFAICT).

Big problem for me is that the RSS feed for comments has stopped working. Is there a new url for them? If not, then it seriously messes up use of the site.

Let me look into this Cyclist. Initially this was just a trial but the more
that readers are really liking it, the more I am integrating it into the
site.

in Paying for it… on Mobile Industry Review
I buy usenet access on exactly this model. It's really convenient, and seems fair to both me and the service provider. If I use more, I pay more because it renews early. If I use less, then I pay the per month amount which contributes to the fixed costs of running the service.

in No mobile means poverty, say children on alexkinch.com
Interesting that the other two criteria, not being able to go on trips and not having the right uniform, haven't changed since my school days in the early 70s.

in Nearly 200 mobiles seized in Irish prisons each month on alexkinch.com
Jammers are illegal in many countries, which may include Ireland. But surely the government can grant itself and exception!

If they're serious about no mobiles, why don't they just put a jammer in each prison? Seems reasonable that visitors can't use mobiles either until they leave, but I'll admit it's a bit harsh on prison staff.

in 89% of Americans support text driving ban on alexkinch.com
I wonder if a specific law for this is actually needed? In UK texting and any other activity that diverts attention from driving can be prosecuted under the heading of driving without due care and attention. I'd be amazed if there wasn't some similar kind of offence in US for low level bad driving.

in Do you sleep with your Blackberry? on alexkinch.com
Meet a woman who checks her email in bed!
It's on a Windows Mobile phone, not a Blackberry, and in the mornings, not evenings. I am very much not a morning person, so when I'm trying to come to terms with the unpleasant idea of getting out of bed checking my email is one way to put it off for a while. Or at weekends when a nice kind husband has brought me a cup of extra strong coffee to drink while sitting up in bed :-)

in HTC and the curse of the weak displays on alexkinch.com
I thought HTC had this sorted, but looks like not. I bought one of the very first O2 XDAs in 2002. The screen did this after three days, just two days before I was due to leave for Australia for a long trip. Carphone Warehouse were very good - I went back to the shop and they handed over another one immediately. Apparently the screen failure was so well known at that time they had instructions to replace without question!
In the last five years I've had a total of 5 HTC devices with no screen problems.

in Innovative use of text in childhood immunisation on alexkinch.com
I suspect what's going on here is part of the changes to contracts between the Health Service and GPs. The government came up with this idea of rewarding GPs based on them hitting targets - like taking the blood pressure of every patient on a surgery visit. A price has been put on almost anything that can be measured; practices that hit all their targets can earn a lot more, I think up to double what they'd get if they didn't hit targets. If the GP practice gets extra cash for hitting a high percentage of infants immunised within a time limit, then they are going to do everything they can to get parents to bring the kids in. Unfortunately the good work that health visitors and district nurses do is not so measurable, and funding for them has been squeezed.
