I wouldn't know what you're speaking of since I've never tried to get anything published. Should I try? (Maybe you'll have to read some of me before you answer that!)

Gordon Atkinson left a message at my blog that said "Welcome to HighCallingBlogs" I haven't seen mine linked there yet. My blog is mostly aimed at Christian men who are married. Wives and unmarried people are welcome too, of course (that covers just about everyone doesn't it?!). Anyway, looking at the categories, I don't see "Marriage" Maybe you could create one? Otherwise, I guess mine would fall into "Devotion" I know you guys are totally busy, so I won't hold my breath or anything....
Peace! I know many, including myself, are uncomfortable with critiques of Christianity. But, I think we are living in a wonderful time of re-evaluation of what makes Christianity "Christian."

Peace, Kim

Re: This Isn’t Really a Subscribe to Me Kind of Blog

Mark, Merry Christmas and Blessings in the New Year. I can't say that I've seen any noticeable change in traffic to my blog, but I have enjoyed reading others' blogs that are highlighted or in the community. Blessings! Mr. Packer's voice and demeanor are soothing to the soul. I wish that writing could be a central part of my ministry too, instead of a "when I can get to it" activity.

Re: Time Is Relative, So Why Shouldn’t Faith Be Relative?

Marcus, I've been having a spirited blog discussion with Mike Leaptrott at his Progression of Faith blog along a similar vein. I'm wondering if you would have 2 cents to offer here or there: http://www.faithprogression.com/2008/02/evoluti...
I don't see relativists as naive. They are thoughtful and have a distinctly different paradigm of Christianity, Scripture, God, history, myth, truth, orthodoxy and life in general than "traditional" Christianity. I'm thinking that the jury is still our on what is "emerging."

Re: Buried.

Hey Marcus, Thanks for all your efforts at HighCallingBlogs. How many of us have learned about death through our pets? I've never cried so hard in my life as when we put our pet cocker spaniel down due to cancer. I would have been about 37 then. I cried so hard that the vet didn't charge us for the euthanasia. The short answer is "yes!"

Re: What are the biblical roles of husbands and wives?

Dale, One could do a whole dissertation on this subject. Far from being "clear," even Paul acknowledges that "This mystery is great..." in Eph 5:32.

I see the submission and leadership as predicate. In other words, good submission will follow good leadership and bad leadership will get bad submission.

As with many issues in Scripture, we tend to make the interpretation mechanical, rather than spiritual. So, when Mr. Um talks about leadership he goes to the "tie-breaker" idea. What I see in that verse is a spiritual leadership, one modelled by Christ, of self-sacrifice, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

The sad thing is that if you ask most children (including adult children) who the spiritual leader of their family is they will say "it's mom." The other sad thing is that we've connected femininity to the spiritual fruit. So, when a man exhibits these character qualities he is perceived as feminine.

Enough for now. Maybe more later...

Re: Dorothy Rabinowitz takes on Deepak Chopra

Dale, I've been chewing on this because there's something that's been nagging me about this post. I think I've narrowed it down and I'm hoping you'll comment.

The first part is that for a very long time I have wrapped my own Christianity up in the American flag. I'm 52 years old and have been pretty conservative. But things change.

Which leads to the second part. I've been trying to untangle my Christianity from my patriotism. What's come out of that are questions: How Christlike do I want to be? How Christian do I want my Country to be? What characteristics of Christ do I want to exemplify? What characteristics of Christ do I want my country to exemplify? How seriously should I take Christ's urging to love my enemies? Who are they? What should I turn my cheek to? If Christ was willing to take upon himself the sins of the world and bear the consequences of them by going, uncomplaining, to the cross (completely UNFAIR), how far do I go down that same, unfair road? How far do I expect my Country to do the same?

I'm wrestling with the idea that "fairness compromises Godliness." If God is sovereign, then is whatever our idea of what is "fair" superseded by His will? Thinking through the Old Testament there are so many circumstances that seem unfair, yet are presented as legitimized because God's will superseded our human notion of fairness. Christ's sacrifice is the epitome of "unfair" in human terms.

All that to ask the question, "Is there some noble character quality that is revealed when America is willing to accept responsibility, bear the blame, suffer the consequences of being unfairly accused and go on uncomplaining as it is condemned by the world?" I could ask the same question about me, individually. I think that we would answer "yes" if we were talking about Christ. Your thoughts?

Peace, Kim

Re: Dorothy Rabinowitz takes on Deepak Chopra

Dale, Hope I didn't offend with my last post here.
