It sounds like allowing people outside the company to drive company direction. The issue is that many companies are pulled in multiple directions by multiple forces. Its great to get feedback from users, but no matter what a company does, there will be a group of people that are supportive, and a group of people that are disappointed. Which one do you listen to? If you implement what the disappointed group wants (as suggested in the sentence above), then does the happy group become the disappointed group? Listening is fantastic. But its doesnt stop there. A company must CRITICALLY listen. A company must be able to separate the signal from the noise, and, while acknowledging all that they have been heard, only act on the feedback that truly drives a company's vision and mission forward. And, Geoff, you are correct, action is important. But what is more important is honesty and truth. I have gotten thousands of suggestions from customers, investors, and other interested parties, and while, again, I acknowledge listening to them, I indicate to each group what exactly we plan to implement, when that implementation may occur -- in essence setting proper expectations. If you tell an interested party that you are going to do something, then do it. If you are not going to do anything, tell them that too.

Re: Be Political

You know I dont vote. You know why. The primary reason being that it drives me nuts that people get all "world changing" every 3.5 years. Fuck being political. Be a world changer daily. Vote with your actions every day. (and by you, I dont mean you, I mean people in general). Do good every day. Make a small difference in someone's life TODAY, everyday. There will be a million posts just like this one. All with merit, all with heartful goodness behind it. But voting wont make the world a better place. Action will. I happened upon it. I wonder if the 40's are as self realizing for everyone, everywhere, across the globe. I, too, am 44 and have found an inner peace about myself. Unfortunately, I did not have that confidence in my 20's when my outsides were relatively attractive. But I like myself now, and what others think of my looks, which aren't bad, how I dress, what my opinion is, etc, gives us a new type of freedom we didn't have enjoy before. And I LIKE IT!!

Re: Poisoning Calvin’s Well

Firstly, jM, edit the main post to say "Calvinism" rather than clavinism. :)

Secondly... the question of whether it was right to execute Servetus is much like asking if it was right for the Israelites to kill Amalekites. The answer is, at the time, yes.

Servetus had escaped from a Roman Catholic prison and though arrested and warned many times to cease propagating his heresy, he continued to write, publish and distribute heretical material. Under the laws of the lands in which Servetus had been in, execution was the proscribed punishment for teaching heresy.

Remember, its not as if Servetus was a hermit somewhere muttering profane obscenities under his breath, he was actively preaching falsehood. Surely in the 21st Century that we live in, under the rule of the secular-humanist system of the US and other nations the punishment seems extreme, but Servetus was condemned to die in that Roman prison, and his only escape hastened his death though under a different theocracy. Such action would be akin to a government taking action against Jim Jones or other doomsday cults prior to their slaughter, it would have been just.

Simply put, the argument against Calvinism on the basis of Servetus' execution is short-sighted, historically inaccurate, and devoid of theological content. It is the foremost of genetic fallacies used in attack against Calvinism. Though Calvin was the primary weapon against Servetus errors, his input into Servetus' punishment was minimal, and even rejected by the government of Geneva.

The argument that attempts to contrast the Servetus account with that of Vogelsangh does not take into account Servetus' previous warnings, arrests, and imprisonments as a repeat offender, nor the limitation of Calvin's sway with the Genevan government at the time. Once again, its another empty argument attempting to deny the truth of Calvinism by attacking a proponent thereof. Genetic fallacy.

Re: Poisoning Calvin’s Well

Sorry, not Genetic Fallacy (A Genetic Fallacy is a line of "reasoning" in which a perceived defect in the origin of a claim or thing is taken to be evidence that discredits the claim or thing itself. I'm quite proud that my Savior has freed me from the laws of false piety created by men to enslave other men and I will most certainly try and make sure that others hear that they too can be freed from their enslavement to legalism... be it through sharing a drink, a pipe or a Pepsi.

As to Rom 14, some use this passage as if Paul was placing imbibing believers under a no-drink policy. Thus the tryanny of the weak becomes becomes the defacto law of the church. Suddenly it is wrong for the pastor or elders or even lay persons to drink alcohol, watch movies or enjoy a cigar because "someone might see them and stumble!"

Paul is specifically talking about eating meat, and elsewhere mentions meat sacrificed to idols. Now surely this principle can carry over to other liberties, but Paul was quite careful to apply the same standard in the opposite direction. Those who didn't eat were not to judge those who did.

Rarely does the Christian person who feels at liberty to drink alcohol try to force or persuade others to do likewise, in fact it is almost always the one who abstains who seeks to enforce his or her will upon the others.

In the end, Luther's little book on Christian liberty nails it:

"Or else we may meet with simple-minded and ignorant persons, weak in the faith, as the Apostle calls them, who are as yet unable to apprehend that liberty of faith, even if willing to do so. These we must spare, lest they should be offended. We must bear with their infirmity, till they shall be more fully instructed.... Thus, though we ought boldly to resist those teachers of tradition, and though the laws of the pontiffs, by which they make aggressions on the people of God, deserve sharp reproof, yet we must spare the timid crowd, who are held captive by the laws of those impious tyrants, till they are set free. Fight vigorously against the wolves, but on behalf of the sheep, not against the sheep. And this you may do by inveighing against the laws and lawgivers, and yet at the same time observing these laws with the weak, lest they be offended, until they shall themselves recognize the tyranny, and understand their own liberty"

Re: The 50 Most Influential Christians?

At least Piper finished ahead of Dr. Phil.

Re: Common Eco-Myth: Wind Turbines Kill Birds

This is possibly the most pethedic article i have ever read\. This is the only practical way for public transportation to work in places like Los Angeles. Combined with a couple light rail routes from outlying areas (Inland Empire, High desert, etc..) it would be cheap and efficient, but with our current stigma out here no one would ride them.

This isn't mentioning the sick fascination with a single person driving and SUV to work every day that is in place here too.

Re: Survey: Hummers or Hikers?

I have been an outdoor enthusiast for nearly 25 years.

I love getting out of the city and into nature so much that I want to experience every bit of it that I can. I choose a modes of transportation that are a bit faster than walking or hiking. However every outing I go on, I find myself getting off my bike, dual sport enduro motorcycle, or 4x4 and taking the time to get close to nature and the beauty that God created for all humans to enjoy.

Getting lost in the scenery and absorbing the deafening silence is a special time that I can never seem to get enough.

Any responsible outdoor enthusiast knows to pack in what they pack out, but it takes more than that to be proactive. Out here in Southern California, the OHV enthusiast are faced with some of the harshest rules and regulations that the crazy left wingers could come up with. For pretty much no other reason then they dont like or appreciate the sport that keeps many economies above water. They closed down 90% of the Imperial Sand Dunes, forcing hundreds of thousands of OHV enthusiasts into several confined areas. This is extremely dangerous for this many riders to be crossing paths in a very tiny area. The fees have risen but know money has been put back into the parks or facilities. The amount of accidents has risen but there are know more 1st responders.

Thankfully the offroad industry is chalk full of organizations and volunteers that work hard to fight the liberals at the state and local levels. The offroad groups and clubs organize cleanups and raise funds to help educate those that access these areas irresponsibly.
