Evernote sounded like a great idea until I played with it today and realized:

-The text recognition in photos is pretty poor. Evernote only recognized text in about 1 of every 10 of my photos. Not very reliable.

-Syncing with Evernote servers was constantly slow, and I began to feel uncomfortable thinking of my personal tidbits constantly streaming back and forth from a third-party server.

-'Paste to Evernote' created notes from whatever happened to be in my clipboard, not what I had highlighted on a web page, while "Clip screenshot" sometimes created a note of the screenshot, sometimes just a note consisting of the URL.

-Evernote drove me to "remember everything"--which is not really what we need. I was cataloguing every flower, but missing the whole field.

-I realized I was creating MORE work for myself. With Evernote, I would spend an ever greater amount of time tagging and SEARCHING through my info. Right now, when I have info to file, I put it where it belongs. Then if I need a photo, it's already there in iPhoto. I need an email address, it's already there in Address Book as I write an email. I need a website, it's already there in Bookmarks as I use Safari. Putting things where they belong in the first place guarantees they are exactly where you need them when you need them. When I need dinner, I usually find it in the fridge. When I need to grab shampoo, I don't have to hunt, it's always in the bathroom. Evernote is more like putting the entire contents of your home in one large plastic garbage bag--and when you need something, searching and fishing it out. I realized I would waste a lot of time SEARCHING through Evernote because I wouldn't know what I had or where I had it. Imagine 500 notes of business cards snapped in a webcam. This huge plastic garbage bag of tidbits and clippings and screen caps in my computer started to look pretty ugly. I don't need yet ANOTHER place to store and search for things. I'll keep my stuff organized how I have it now: Everything in its place.

Flow - Beautiful ftp with QuickView.

SketchUp - Quick, 3D sketching.

Moneydance - Like Microsoft Money for Mac ... and Windows ... and Linux.

Name Mangler - The one thing I can't believe Mac doesn't do on its own.

SimplyBurns - Simply burns. And Martin himself responds for support.

Extra Credit: Displaperture - Losing rounded menu bar corners was Leopard's biggest mistake.
