Unfortunately, he now gets to become a cheerleader.

I wish him well.

Since my luck has been so lousy, lately... I might as well put my name in the hat for the Mimobot. Not because I need a flash drive (though I don't have one) - but because I would treasure anything from you.

sukhjit @dougquance Sorry It's such a lousy post. The apple store guys are right here and they don't seem so happy about me posting video. Rude. Anyway. You're in. Putting you in the contest when I get home.

in Terrible Experience With Bluehost on Creepy Sleepy
The sad reality is that the best values in hosting have a hidden downside. Maybe you'll discover it - maybe you won't.

In your case - you discovered it.

I use their sister company Hostmonster - and so far it's been good for the last two years. Tech support has been quick when it was needed in the early days... and since then - I haven't needed them.

I hope that I won't have your experience.

Dan Patterson You're right Doug - you get what you pay for. In this case, Bluehost is cheap.

I had little to no problems with them for quite a while, but then problems started popping up, weren't addressed, and they seemed to pass the buck. Even if it was 'only' a Wordpress exploit, I really want the company in charge of protecting my data to know what a script is, what it does, and not answer the phone with “Welcome to Boohost, can you tell me whatsit about?”

On the other hand, that one line will make me laugh for years!

Twitter people came out of the woodwork and were really great, though.

But, Andrlik is right: http://bit.ly/MU0w This isn't all about me or my problems. It's about a company that dropped the ball with respect and support, then dropped it again with a failure to respond (or even know about) the reaction on the web.

There is nothing more ridiculous than those silly prices some agents use. Srsly.

Hey Sukhjit!

Love the vid - it's a sweet and sour piece... some good times; some bad times... but you are making the best of it.

I also love the layout of your blog. Very nice indeed.

sukhjit Doug! I am pretty thrilled that you stopped by. I'm glad you left a note too, so I know you were here! Yeah, the last couple months have been a bit bittersweet... but to tell you the truth, the fact that people stop by here to see what I'm up to makes it ok. The thing I liked most about my time at Seesmic was being a part of the community. When people come here and leave me a message ... I get to do that again.

This site has been liberating for me. I've had help getting it off the ground from a wonderful group of social media friends. I owe a lot to Giannii who suggested this site design and helped me get it off the ground. But for the most part I do everything. I film and edit all the videos and I'm having fun. I'm learning so much, it's like being back in school! Anyway.. next time you stop by, I hope you'll leave a video... I promise to send you a video back!

Hope you are well... and had a great Thanksgiving. I keep an eye on your plurks and occasionally see your tweets (he heh, that sounds funny). I really appreciate your message here! -- sukhjit

in Haste Makes Litigation Waste: Poor Drafting Renders Option to Purchase Unenforceable on Maxsell Real Estate
While an attorney would have been a great addition to that hasty lease drafting session - a seasoned commercial agent would have put the legal description into that contract.

Without sufficient property legal description, contracts of sale lack enforceability - as the litigants you described above have discovered... thus proving the old adage "a person who represents himself has a fool for a client".

bnix I couldn't agree more with Doug. A seasoned commercial agent can make a big difference in getting the deal done right. Attorney's are also helpful when drafting complex agreements or adding special stipulations to an agreement.

While I agree with Mr. Reese's assertions... I don't know where he gets the figure of 545. There are 100 Senators and 435 voting members of Congress (plus 5 non-voting delegates)... add one more for Pres, and I'm lost on the other nine.

in Thoughts on the first Presidential debate on faboo mama
Like most partisans, you believe your man won.

I viewed it as a draw - McCain didn't inflict any damage, and Obama didn't look unpresidential. I don't see the needle moving one way or another.

While Obama was claiming what he stood for, McCain spoke of the actions he had taken. No real slam on Obama... he just hasn't been around long enough to talk about what he has done - only what he wants to do.

And while McCain was pointing out what he had done, such as his co-sponsored bill to reform Fannie and Freddie, he failed to show how his leadership on those issues resulted in a benefit for the country... other than the surge in Iraq. Like Obama, to be for or against something without creating a coalition doesn't really help you.

So once again, I say I don't believe this has moved the needle much. Kinda like the conventions... I just see a tightening of the ranks, and not momentum to one side or the other.

faboomama Well, as I mentioned in the post, partisans would say that their guy won and that doesn't matter. What mattered was undecideds and independents and the snap polls of both overwhelming said that Obama won.

In poking around the internet, I think one of the key decision makers was WAPOs fact checking blog. It mostly pointed out the lies of McCain and those people I saw who were undecided and independent who looked at that during the debate were turned off by McCain's constantly lying.

The world wants us to vote in Obama.

That, alone, should be enough to pinch your nose and vote for McCain.

in My fellow Democrats on Scobleizer
While I am not a Democrat (I'm a Libertarian) allow me to make a few quick observations:

1. Our education system is held hostage by the NEA, a union that supports Democrats exclusively. Democrats want to maintain a government monopoly on primary education/indoctrination.

2. Our corporate taxes are much higher in the US than virtually all of the industrialized world. Democrats demonize corporate profits and want to raise taxes on them... including Obama.

2b. Our infrastructure does need improvement. I have not studied the issue to comment on this.

3. Our health care costs are high... and many of those costs go back to everything from the cost of liability insurance to the cost to educate our medical professionals. Democrats have not helped to reduce the cost of education nor have they helped with tort reform. In fact, they have prevented reform.

4. Leaving our borders open to gather votes have been the hallmark of many Democrats. I won't say that closing the border is a good idea - but securing the border IS.

5. Stem cell research is not being forced offshore. The federal govt. actually funds some of it. Government does not have to fund ALL research. Religious fanatics oppose federal funding of embryonic research. Big difference.

6. We do need a technology czar who can help to modernize the various levels and functions of government. The government needs an overhaul, and such a czar would help facilitate it.

What is unfortunate is the entrenched views of both the right and left that keep us from truly moving ahead. There are good ideas on both side to draw from.

in WaMu, a drunk Wall Street, and $1 trillion - all news I didn’t get to today on Blown Mortgage
One of my friends has a mortgage with WaMu. She put 50% down on her home two years ago. They kept screwing up her escrow account - holding more money than they should, and not wanting to refund the money. I think she has finally got it straightened out... after two years.

She has perfect credit and more than enough funds to pay off the mortgage - which she intends to do. She's just over it having to deal with them.

Screw WaMu. If that's how they treat their best customers... they deserve to go down.

Very good point.

I guess I need to take my blogging more serious.

Maybe a copyright notice is appropriate. Now all I need to do is write something worth copyrighting.

Comment moderation is done by others at BHB. I would guess Greg handles it, but I am not sure. I know I don't do it.

I forgot to mention - I also believe that if I put my content on someone else's blog, they are entitle to host that content into perpetuity.

I figure if you say something in someone else's house - they should be able to record it. :)

I believe I own my content - unless I sell the rights. :)

I find it difficult to write for EITHER blog.

The questions you pose are great questions... just not ones I have put a great deal of thought into.

As far as enhancing the brand - if I am helping enhance Bloodhound... that's cool. I would hope that any contributor would be enhancing the site for which they are affiliated.

Monetization? I guess it's like MySpace and YouTube. They become a legal target after it's obvious the money is there (Murdock, Google). If a blog were truly bringing in the bucks, the writers would not only be expecting some compensation - they would deserve it.

Good topic, for sure.

in The Lights of Blogway: Deconstructing the Group Blog on Sellsius
As a contributor to BHB, my take might be a little different.

I view my blog as my local voice. Issues that are consumer-oriented. Communication with my potential business audience.

BHB is a national collaboration where the audience is usually others in the real estate business.

I don't worry about whether a post would benefit my blog more than the collaboration. I only care about where a post is more appropriate.

I am not a great writer, and the words don't come quickly... so having these two venues is more than enough to keep me busy.

I do find it interesting that Sellsius uses the "group-think" concept to each post. I would have thought that to be more difficult.
