One would have to associate Jesus with miracles which I am certainly not. But I like the algorithm ;)

That being said, Disney's business/culture issues run a lot deeper than making cute movies. You have a disheveled board, a family with a lot of influence, Michael Eisner once worked for your company, a stock that hasn't moved in 10 years, piracy, Pixar didn't come cheap, new players in the market, blah, blah, blah.

Jobs is the man, and I'm not even sure what kind of power he will weild over the board, but he now owns a lot of Disney stock. I can't imagine he will stay quiet for long.

Is Buddha ok?

Re: Watching Sports

I want that moment with you Joe. You can run, but you can't run from love. ;)

As you requested......

Definitions of irony on the Web:

* sarcasm: witty language used to convey insults or scorn; "he used sarcasm to upset his opponent"; "irony is wasted on the stupid"; "Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody's face but their own"--Jonathan Swift
* incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs; "the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated"
* a trope that involves incongruity between what is expected and what occurs
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

* Irony is a form of speech in which the real meaning is concealed or contradicted by the words used. Irony involves the perception that things are not what they are said to be or what they seem. Dramatic irony lies in the audience's deeper perceptions of a coming fate, which contrast with a character's lack of knowledge about said fate. A common metaphor for using irony is to "have your tongue in cheek".
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony

* A meaning (often contradictory) concealed behind the apparent meaning of a word or phrase.
odur.let.rug.nl/~usa/LIT/chap10.htm

* A contrast or an incongruity between what is stated and what is really meant, or between what is expected to happen and what actually does happen. Two kinds of irony are: 1) verbal irony, in which a writer or speaker says one thing and means something entirely different; and 2) dramatic irony in which a reader or audience member perceives something that a character in the story does not
library.thinkquest.org/23846/library/terms/

* A contradiction or incongruity. (Compare ambiguity.) In literature, irony often falls into one of three categories. "Verbal Irony" occurs when words mean in context the opposite of what they say considered by themselves. "Situational Irony" occurs when one event is expected by another oppositional event occurs. ...
www2.cumberlandcollege.edu/acad/english/litcritweb/glossary.htm

Re: Ritual is a Mac Haven

Little too heavy on the THC Rachie, you are SO uber-paranoid.

The image is simply a cup with a star. But at the same time, social networks do allow a safer, more effective means of communication for some introverts, anti-socialites, and people that don't have lot of time to go out. We are not all Don Juan reborn on Burry Circle.

The real issue is no one is doing the social networks right. This post was more about showing how these companies are going to make money right now, and the current business behind consumers searching and subscribing is worth next to nothing.

Trying to subscribe to a search on technorati is nearly impossible, why? Because they don't want you too. They want you coming back to the site, uploading your OPML(favorites?) there, and having your "watchlists" on site.

I think that Technorati's newest announcement this morning is spot-on to where their product is shifting. They can sell syndication to content portals or the JIT alerts/communication relationship to the enterprise, like they are doing with Edelman, but for the average internet browser the play looks to be more and more like a blog directory/community.

Re: Sphere It! To address your points.

1. I understand the need to develop the index with some "tricky math" but i don't believe the underlying content archive is an issue.

2. Totally agreed about spam finding any viable source. But Feedburner has a gatekeeper. The 'index' would not be formed around unknown pings from 'naked' feeds, they have the content centralized(Feedburner feeds only), and the goal would never be to 'index', in this case, the whole blogosphere. The ability to discriminate is key here.

3. Agreed

4. I am just going off what I have seen and read so far, which is admittedly limited. The personal computer is becoming the most important piece of equipment in a person\'s life, leaving the OralB in it\'s dust.

At some point you do need to pay for quality. It is hard to appropriately value such an important piece of equipment merely on a price tag.

Take for instance a pop-up. How many have you closed in your life? How much time have you wasted re-installing, rebooting, or runnning virus scanning equipment on Windows.

How much is that time worth? It almost shows that a small cluster of words can immediately differentiate one brand from another.

I just took a screenshot of B through E to try and not giveaway obvious tags like Amazon or JeffBezos.

I did also notice that in that screenshot there is a tag for EC2, I guess that gives it away pretty quickly to someone familiar with the Amazon brand.

Re: Brands are….

I would definitely think that Amazon would be happy with how their page is shaping up. The biggest thing that could happen for Brand Tags is it will go mainstream and you will really get a sense for what people *really* think of brands. Right now, it is in that early adopter/Digg home page phase of, "oh my God Ron Paul is going to win the Presidency, and Mac's have 90% market share!"

What is interesting from the current data is brands that were born on the web or have made a significant investment in the web; seem to be talked about and thought of far more favorably.

Re: Media

Oh i get it. So the user generally wants to see the same standard flash ads that they can't interact with. Who would want to see the actual creation of art from multiple participants through banners; just give me the message already!

Re: Email Great Medium For Reaching Old, Stupid People

I agree with you Ben, when there is a customer relationship(a real one, not one where you accidentally checked a box), email offers a great way to not only fulfill but also create demand. Amazon does an amazing job for me with fulfilling and in creating demand with the emails that I get from them. They are not perfect, but they are good enough that I don't mind them when they are off.

To your point Michael to focus on email to create or even fulfill demand when it wasn't asked for, is a bad way to spend time and money.

Re: Email Great Medium For Reaching Old, Stupid People

I agree with you Ben, when there is a customer relationship(a real one, not one where you accidentally checked a box), email offers a great way to not only fulfill but also create demand. I am glad that it got in front of your community.

@Dr Wright- The article you reference by Anita Campbell is a great read for any blogger. It is more about your rights as a blogger and what you need to know based on the latest legal action taken by the AP.

@ Josh- We worked with Digitas New York on this project. They were instrumental from the very beginning and have been a great partner.

@Darren- You can absolutely link back to your own site when leaving a comment; the field is right under name and email on every post. FWIW, trackbacks are also enabled to help further identify and link out to the conversation.
