in The College Model as an Alternative to Existing High School Structure on danielmiessler.com | grep understanding
I like this idea. My girlfriend is from Germany and in high school, they choose either two majors or a major and a minor. They also have three different high school options in most places. There is one option to go for nine years (Hauptschule). This is for mostly vocational occupations. ANother option is for ten years (Realschule). This is an intermediate option. The third option is for those who plan to go to college, and is a 13 year school (Gymnasium). I think that giving the option for students to get a High School Diploma for vocational work earlier and only keeping the students around that plan to further their education would drastically improve drop out rates, and better prepare students for college and beyond since there is a better teacher to student ratio.

Ordered mine yesterday. It should be on my doorstep on the 19th. I finally caved in and switched to ATT.

let me know what you think about the new SDK... I have been spending a lot of time in the current one and have decided that I favor it to the Blackberry and Android ones. On a side note, I have decided to switch to ATT for the new iPhone when they announce and release it with the SDK and ease of development being one of the deciding factors. For right now, I am writing on the emulator.

Daniel Miessler Yeah, this will be my second when I get this. I love my current one; it just can't do the transformer trick.

In case you didn't know, I am a big coffee fan. We have a coffee roaster just up the street from my office. I always enjoy walking up there and grabbing some fresh roasted coffee and a cup for the road.

I have recently turned away from Starbucks because of the attitude. I was actually told that I could not have a latte macchiato as they do not exist. I could have a macchiato or a latte, however. Anyway, next time I know that I will see you, I'll grab you a pound of coffee from the roaster here.

"Ah, the days of Converse Allstars…"...

I own at least two pairs of "Chucks" (Converse Allstars for the uninitiated) at any time. One pair of high tops, and one pair of low tops. They are an essential part of my non-work attire. :)

Just thought you'd enjoy this. Apparently her own campaign is getting fed up with her, too...

If you mean me, I have already ordered my Obama yard signs (and stickers), donated money to the Obama campaign, and am trying to move the closing date on my house from Nov 1 to Oct 1 so that I can volunteer at the Democratic Headquarters here and try to get information out to everyday people who are uninformed on where the candidates really stand. I was certainly for Paul in the primaries, but there is no way that I would vote McCain in this one. Not a chance.

in A New Take on McCain’s VP Pick on danielmiessler.com | grep understanding

In addition to the pro-life thing, she has lots of vulnerability in a debate. Here is another possible talking point. In only a few days, she has a term associated with her platform on energy...

"Within hours of Senator John McCain picking Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, the talking heads of CNBC had coined a new term: "Palinomics." In a nutshell, the doctrine stands for expanding the search for domestic oil and gas as a solution to the energy crisis."

I think that everyone else believes that it is time to start looking elsewhere for sources of energy, she says KEEP DRILLING!!! Is she from Texas?

There is also controversy going on about a possible misuse of power in trying to get someone fired. That is still under investigation, I think.

Also, "Palin opposes same-sex marriage and supported a non-binding referendum for a constitutional amendment to deny benefits to same-sex couples." -- Wikipedia

She is a member of Feminists For Life, a pro-life feminist group.

She does not believe global warming is man made.

She doesn't think that polar bears are endangered.

She supports aerial hunting of wolves (yes, from a helicopter or other vantage point). This one seems ridiculous. If anything screams "let's blow some cash!", it is chartering a helicopter flight to find and shoot wolves for trophy.

Anyway, these are a few reasons that I am interested in John McCain's VP selection. She sounds like a disaster. Sorry to ramble.

in Global Warming Revisited on danielmiessler.com | grep understanding

I am also unsure of the validity of man-made global warming. I think that there are some pretty good arguments either way. I tend to think that (at least to some degree) we do contribute, but need more evidence to be convinced. My idea is that it doesn't hurt to be "green", so why not do it. I walk to work every day. I recycle as many items as possible at home and work(we are lucky enough to have really good programs, both at home and at work). I don't print anything that isn't absolutely necessary. There are several other examples. The point is that all of these are free or even save money and contribute to better air quality, less garbage in landfills, and less traffic in the street. So, why not.
