in first trail race of the season on Off TrackOkay, great answer, thanks! Sounds like the winner's clipping right along... but if it's cool to run just to finish, maybe I'll take a stab at it!

in first trail race of the season on Off TrackAhhh ... a 5K, I'm in. I find the 16 milers... well, a little looooong for my taste. Though I'm curious -- what are you thinking of as a moderate pace? What's an average (not a winning, but middle of the pack) pace for a 16 mile trail run? Maybe that'll help me imagine how I could (or could not) work up to one.

in Nashua Telegraph Blogs on The Pop DinerHmm... good one. I'd read the Hemingway one before. The others were terrific. Here's a first stab at it by me -- revisions to come: "He lies awake beside her bathrobe."

in NashuaTelegraph.com: Blogs on The Pop DinerI think you nailed it. Especially the details. Tragic. Beautiful. Nicely written. "Before I left Dover, I ran a quick errand, passing a woman on the street who was singing an impromptu, a capella rendition of the national anthem, tears running down her face. It was such an achingly beautiful day, the kind that made me think Baz Luhrmann was right, the real troubles in life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you on an idle Tuesday." Nicely put.

in Got a novel inside you? on The Pop DinerHey, thanks for the nod, Jen! And for the mention of the Banks event. I'm hoping to get to it. Also, I've never written a novel in three days, but I finished one in two weeks once. Not a very good one, but a bet's a bet! Of course that was before kids ... now I'd aim for two years and hope for the best. I'll leave the marathon speed noveling to the young and vigorous ... have at it Deus Ex.

in We are family on The Pop DinerSaw it too, and loved it. (And I'm even older than you!) Enough so I was inclined to post about it as well. This movie was also my three-and-a-half-year-old son's first time sitting through a feature in the theater -- a real milestone!

in 2006 answer to the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show on The Pop DinerWho says the world isn't like that? There's a lot of magic, a lot of tragedy and a lot of happy endings in life. We just get trained not to see it -- somehow cynicism has been awarded the status of a virtue. Romanticism strikes chords in us because on some deep level, it is true!

in NashuaTelegraph.com: Blogs on The Pop DinerObviously the poll results were self-selecting and so left out many listeners with sound musical and historical judgment... Seriously, though, this reminds me a bit of the blog post a while back that cited a survey in which the former Nirvana singer was the top rock hero of all time or somthing... clearly these polls reflect overly heavily a specific demographics' "here and now" or worse, the "now" of that demographics' formative years, and not a broader historical sense... It's sort of like asking a 12-year-old kid who's only been exposed to Friendly's and McDonalds what the greatest culinary invention of all time is. Would we be surprised if he said, "hamburgers"?

in Too Cruel To Be True on The Editor's Blog"...you come upon a story that just makes you want to cry -- and then go hug your children." You said it. Though that's true of half of the news that comes across the transom some days...
