Hey Marc,

I agree with you on the unrealistic advice. That is something I try to avoid as much as possible. My advice is based on my own expereicnes so they are at least realistic to me. I consider myself to be an average guy and that is who I write for.

I actually just put up a post earlier today on moderation. check it out. I don't avoid any foods (drinks included), I can only handle so much chicken and vegetables.

Hopefully you wouldn't group me into the unrealistic advice catergory.

My site was dropped from blogrush after the first round of cuts that they did last year ( I didn't have 10 posts up at the time) so I never really had a whole lot of experience with the program.

I will say that I have a lot of respect for John for at least trying something like this as well as being able to admit that it has failed.

Maybe something bigger and better will come from the lessons learned about blogrush.

I think I rely too much on Google for my traffic. Currently they provide about 50% of all the traffic to sites.

Looking at my own spending habits, my online purchases were way down and my general spending overall was much less this year.

I am an Amazon associate (for some of my sites) and my commissions were up quite a bit 20% over last year.

Big companies as a whole need to scale back if they want to survive the recession. The company I work for is now realizing this as well and are reluctantly cutting this week.

As for the gaming system part, I agree with Dan that the target markets are very different. I'm a Wii guy. I do like Xbox and PS3 but the wii is something my kids and I can play together. It's more active and just fun to play.

I love Softball, I've played since I was about 13 (Hardball since 6yrs old). Don't worry about being bad at it, just work on the basics and build from there. If you make an error shrug it off, learn from it and move on.

Trust me I've lost a few games for the team, it stings at first but I just laugh it off. It will make those game winning plays that much more enjoyable :)

I don't understand how Google comes up with some of the results that they do, but as long as I have the #1 spot for "weight loss" (google.ca anyway) then that is all I care about :)

I am actually surprised that you aren't in the top 3. Google rankings are really weird. John Chow doesn't even appear until page 5.

As long as you keep producing the quality content that you do, you'll be on top in no time.

Nice Bust Garry. I agree that it's disrespectful to fake your RSS numbers. My numbers are anywhere from 35 to 40 but I haven't really been pushing it. That's also why I don't publish the chicklet on my site.

I hope Clint has learnt his lesson from this. If you look at his site now his number of subscribers has exploded. :)

Thanks for the response. I am definitely going to switch up the ad formats and implement the changes that you've suggested. I'll know the final totals as far as the June CTR tomorrow. I'll compare them to the changes I'm going to make in July and see if there is an improvement.

Also, I am only monetizing with adsense on the main site and some affiliate stuff on the blog.

That one ad you mentioned is appealing but the payout is appalling. The lowest ppc I have (which will change).

When you had tinymassive on this site, I think I saw only 1 product offered the whole time. (a money clip I think) It seems like they need better targeting and a wider product selection.

My one and only piece of advice on this subject is this: Use a spell checker!

I registered a domain that I thought would be great. Not very SEO friendly but a great phrase. Well apparently I suck at spelling and I mis-spelled a word when I submitted it.

That site is dead and I won't be renewing it. Oh well it only cost me $5.99 not a bad price for a very valuable lesson. (I can laugh about it now, but I was pissed at myself)

P.S I have stumbled this post as my 500th stumble and I used a spell checker. :)

I did the same thing as you Garry. I dreamed up all the possibilities and directions I would take it. I was so excited and then boom the dream was dead.

I thought the only hope I had left was that maybe I could capitalize on it and score some traffic by other people mis-spelling the same phrase.....Nope turns out the proper domain was registered as a premium parked domain. So nuts to that.

How are you adjusting to the 1 post per day on here? I'd image your upcoming post queue is pretty long by now :)

Garry you have helped me out quite a lot and I appreciate every bit of it. Definitely
bring back the ads and do whatever else you can to bring in the cash. After all comments don't feed the kids.

The bigger question here is how can we (your regular readers) help you? Is it links? or blog posts or something else?

I try to read and comment as often as possible. Your content is great.

Since you mentioned the comment luv and it passing page rank, does the same thing apply to the dofollow plugin for wordpress? Does that also drain a blog as well?

Excellent advice Garry. That 10% conversation rate is something I am striving for myself.

For Dec I managed 7% a good result and still leaves me room to improve upon. I will be experimenting with ad placements for Jan.
