in Rumor Confirmed! Cuisinart Ice-Cream Maker Includes Long Rumored Sprinkle Dispenser on OhGizmo!
Andrew, I've been waiting for this second gen version, but I NEED to know before I buy- can I get it in black or is it only in white??? This is VERY important to my business. Also, it seems to be a little bit thicker than the previous model, I have to know complete dimensions right away, please provide them. And finally can you please benchmark it against the previous model IMMEDIATELY so that we can make better informed purchasing decisions? If it is not 2x faster I'm not sure anyone would buy it, IMHO.

I wonder if it understands "If you go off again, I will break you with a hammer" when mumbled through the underside of a pillow? My current alarm certainly does not, in fact, it seems to completely ignore my threats.

Dear Hammacher: "...thank you?". This is more confusing than useful, and at that price I doubt many will feel like giving it a whirl. I also could never get the pogo stick thing down as a kid, so maybe I just don't understand the appeal either.

I have to say, congrats to the winner and all of that, but I'm really glad this is not going to be the real design. This strikes me as a design that is nowhere near your sensibility graphically, and it takes a lot of confidence and guts to reject the popular choice in favor of having something you want. I can't wait to see the real final design.

That is brilliant. I would gladly get one of these for my car- I hate traditional jacks, and thankfully have not had to use one in a long time. As for lawsuits... ugh I hate fear of stupid people holding back innovation.

in Warning: Watch out for "Evacuation process...San Clemente Nucklear Power Station" email on HighTechDad Blog
Found your site while Googling this email (mine came from "NPR"). Figured it was a scam but I live inside that 100 mile radius so I wasn't about to just delete and ignore. But no major site was covering it so I stuck with my gut instinct that it was spam. But really alarming spam! Isn't there a law in the US that protects free speech up until the point that it is used to cause a panic? The example I remember is that screaming "FIRE!!" in a crowded movie theater would not be protected speech. Maybe we could sue these spammers???

there is something very genuine and simply fun loving about this video. it has every hallmark of a "viral video" stunt to promote their company, but yet still manages to come across as just a good group of people doing something pointless and entertaining, and it gets my vote for having some effort put into editing, a rarity on the web these days.

$2700???? OUCH. Seeing as how I purchase maybe 2 baguettes a year, I'm guessing I will personally never see a need for this, but I'm sure there is a need or it would have been produced, right?

evan, thanks for the review- we've been following this thing for a little while as a possible interface for something we are working on. now that they have demo units in the wild (i've never seen them in person, you've inspired me to look more carefully next time i am at fry's) i guess we can go check it out!
side, unrelated question- do you think someone using this to play a fps whould eventually get sore/tired from all that fedback recoil? just curious...

andrew, i have to disagree with you on one point (it is your opinion i know, but mine differs and i hope to dissuade you): the iphone camera is great. hear me out!
yes, it has a terrible rolling shutter and is AWFUL in low light and has a stupid long delay between pushing the button and actually taking a picture and the lens is right where you end up wanting to put your hand... but it is a cameraphone, not a camera. the crappy pictures it takes are fantastic, in their own little way. i joined a site called digitalomo as a contributor because of the iphone, i mean look at them the way that site does:
"The essence of Lomography lies in taking your camera with you everywhere and sporadically documenting life without a great deal of deliberation or planning. Digital Lomography retains these core values, but uses cell phone cameras as opposed to traditional ones. This adds the advantage of quick-turnaround, and makes use of the fact that many of us regularly carry around a camera-equipped cell-phone."
I posit to you sir that the iphone camera's suckery is an aesthetic which can be pleasing. the end. also i would love to try this lens out but i would prefer the zoom one- the iphone's lens is already too much on the wide angle end of the spectrum.

i had one of those mini keychain switchblade discover cards for a few years (was the same account#, basically a second card) and really did not like it. it made my keychain bigger, it did not work in most credit card machines (too small, couldn't be read properly) and was nowhere near as convenient as it seemed it would be. i bet they probably had similar issues with this one.

are we really that lazy now?? ok so you pull the string and it vibrates for a while... this seems to actually create more work- you have to wait for it to stop shaking if it is still going after you have as much salt/pepper as you want! this is a solution looking for a problem, belongs in the half-bakery not on store shelves.

i posted a pretty lengthy rant about the mpaa and riaa on the two blogs i write for yesterday- i won't reiterate basically this is just one reason that those two institutions will fail, and in doing so will probably take their entire industries (as we know them) down with them. i really can't stand this behavior.

in Fun with Uninstallation on Fun with WordPress
while i fully applaud this tool, i kind of would prefer functionality like this rolled into the wordpress code itself. it would be extremely useful and nice to have wordpress move towards a mozilla-esque "extension" structure for plugins, wherein we can add, control, and remove plugins with as little stress as possible. this would help pretty much everyone- developers, site admins, and end users/visitors. so as a first step in a great direction, amen to this!
