Is Mo REALLY old enough to go to school? Dang.... Time flies. I tried enrolling my kid in school this year, but somehow they caught on to my farce. I mean, she does look older than 2, I guess just not 5.... Been thinking 2 things. 1. How much money I would save on daycare. 2. I think she's ready for school. -at least that way, I would'nt be the only one responsible for the bad habits she would learn...

When I was small, my mom got on in front of me. I got one leg on, but for some reason decided not to put the other on...so the escalator was going up with my one leg while my other foot was still on the floor - and I wouldn't move.



I cried for my mom but she was halfway up the thing so some strange man came and rescued me - I've been traumatized since ...



And I hate that first step :-)

Surely if the price changes -- she'll have read it in the newspaper on the ride the day before ;-)


We don't have subways here...actually, we don't even have public buses in the city I live in (redneckville)...but the ones that read the paper while they drive are even scarier!



My peeve is the person who reads the sign that says the lane they're in is closing, but they continue to speed along. Then they expect everyone who comprehended the meaning of that sign to stop their own vehicle just to make room for that illiterate, inconsiderate idiot to merge -- you can patiently wait your turn if I'm anywhere nearby...maybe you'll pay attention to the signs next time like the rest of us!!!

The point is that you cannot in all fairness talk about the missing brothers in our communities without talking about those who show up, or the mothers who do more than pick up the slack, or the extended family that pushes the children to succeed in spite of their possibly disheartening surroundings. We are all of these things, and more. It is unfortunate that Barack is so willing to chastise us when he gets in front of an audience, when in reality, it is our collective tenacity, ingenuity, and even our family values that have allowed us to survive in this country considering all that we have endured. We are the most successful blacks in the diaspora! Barack is standing on the shoulders of the black community in this country-present and past. While I support him, I do not appreciate his consistent condescenscion.

I finally agree with something you guys posted! Kidding, I have agreed before, but more often than not I disagree. And I have been called a "white woman" on your message boards before for having the audacity of my own opinion.


Anyway, though Dowd is clearly an Obama supporter, I did notice throughout the primary her creepy disdain for women leaders. She attacked Hillary with venom, and of course it was often necessary. But something more seemed to be seething underneath.



This is why black folks need to take issue with the media's maltreatment of Hillary and her campaign. Because they will be coming for Michelle next. And then you, and then me.

Yes "she" is. Those votes were clearly re-counted for the official tally. Aside from the voter suppression claims, the implication is that blacks are supposed to vote unequivocally for Obama. That greatly contrasts with the earlier assertion that Obama is not "running for Pres of Black America."


Anyway, he won! Stop whining and get him elected.

I was going to ask how it could be that Barack is not running for pres of Black America, but that it is somehow a shame that Harlem didn't vote for him...but then I realized that I wouldn't get an answer that made sense.

Of course Hillary made a thousand mistakes and alienated the black community. I think this blog has done more than enough to point that out over the primary season. The bottom line is that Barack will need her voters to win.


I don't exactly see Barack as the ride or die type for black issues anyway. Though I know you all think that is because he "transcends race" and "does what he needs to do" to win. I live in New York, and was dreadfully disturbed by his comments after the Sean Bell verdict. I hope that, with as much fervor as you all seem to support Sen. Obama's candidacy, that you call him to task when he is elected.



Furthermore, when did being black automatically make you a progressive???

I actually think that bitter Hillary supporters who want to support McCain or not vote in November at all are off their collective rocker.


I do understand the point about maybe needing time to heal the wounds.



I just don't think that Hillary bashing at this point is strategic or smart. Sorry if using the term ignorant is offensive, but it is beyond ignorant to think that Barack doesn't need Hillary to pound the pavement for him. It's nuts.

Obama knows that he will lose if he doesnt find a way to court Hillary's supporters. McCain is already after them. It seems that if you were really a group of progressives, you would try to get over yourselves and focus on what's good about Barack instead of what is so wrong with Hillary (who is not the real enemy mind you).
