in Should Children Be Banned From Childlike Behavior? on AllFacebook
Personally, if a company wants to look me up on facebook or any other site where i post pictures video or what have you and they don't like what they see, i don't want to work for them. I go to burningman, i'll tell an employer straight up in an interview that i REQUIRE the last week of august off in order to attend. If they scoff at me going, i don't want to work for them!

Children shouldn't be afraid of what they do as children/teenagers. You'll notice that recently politicians have just recently begun to acknowledge their use of drugs(pot and even coke) in their youth.

in NY State to Bar Sex Offenders From Facebook on AllFacebook
This is just a useless law that will do nothing. I could never understand why the police/government insist on going after the end of the food chain, ie the website. Its the same thing in drug enforcement. They insist on going after the drug dealer or user, rather than the supplier.

If this is to work, it has to be done at the ISP level.

in LinkedIn Still Doesn’t Get It on AllFacebook
I think that LinkedIn provides a different service than facebook, but they need to be thinking how they can leverage facebook if they want to keep their business.

One clear advantage LinkedIn has is in search engines. if you do a google search for "Brian Harris, San Francisco" #2 is LinkedIn. This is a clear advantage when looking for a job, employers can easily verify who you are.

Also as you mention, LinkedIn has a much older demographic most of which i think would be less willing to move over to facebook... Can you imagine a 60 year old C-Level Exec poking a colleague??

LinkedIn is here to stay, there will always be a need for it. they just have to embrace Facebook and use it to grow their user base.

in Will AIM Compete With Facebook? on AllFacebook
It definitely raises some interesting questions, but i think you hit it on the head. AIM's brand association is a hard nut to crack. AOL has always been known for its instant messaging and no matter what AOL releases/has released it will never hit the same adoption that aim has had. AOL has had gaming and profiles for many years and i don't see anyone adopting them. I would imagine, that probably close 95% of the features in AIM aren't used by the majority, if at all.

Regarding desktop applications in the social networking space. i can't see this picking up. More and more we are living are online lives in a web browser with the ability to access all of our content whether it be e-mail, bookmarks, contacts, etc from any computer, anywhere, at any time. Because of this i find it hard imagine being tied to a desktop application for social networking.

The era of the desktop application is near its end.
