in The More the Government Does, the More Harm it Does on OpenMarket.org
In my readings (from the John Birch Society, Hayek, Mises, and/or Milton Friedman) I've known for quite some time that FDR was culpable. It's good to know that it's now becoming more public knowledge. It seems as though whenever socialism takes hold it ultimately leads to wealth redistribution UPWARD--from the poor to the rich.

in Dish-DirecTV Merger Next? on OpenMarket.org
Great article, and I agree.

Netflix is awesome, especially because I can stream "instant-play" movies through my 7Mb DSL connection.

I didn't realize that so many more people still use cable, but that doesn't change the underlying principle that you discuss here. Just because many of us have become accustomed to receiving satellite TV doesn't make it a right. If "DishDirect" were to become such a hot item that they felt they could skyrocket their prices, it wouldn't be too long before people found other alternatives.

I say, FCC get out of the way, and let them see if together they can provide a better service.

in FISA Bill Much Worse than Immunity on OpenMarket.org
Regarding his vote for FISA, my senator, Robert Bennett, said "I am pleased Congress reached an agreement and passed this important legislation that respects Americans’ civil liberties..."

I suspect he didn't read the legislation. He is a political criminal.

in BONG HiTS FOR JESUS Revisited on OpenMarket.org
From the opinion of the supreme court on Morse v. Frederick, is this statement:

Consistent with established school policy prohibiting such messages at school events, Morse directed the students to take down the banner.

It's hard to see how, if you disagree with the Supreme Court's decision in this case, you wouldn't be compelled to reach the conclusion that schools can't have any rules about speech at all.
