in Gary Vaynerchuk - Talking to publishers and Indie book stores I... on Gary Vaynerchuk
Love the comment about using Wordpress or Tumblr as the backend of a website for 0 cost.
There are a lot of people who still think running a website costs a fortune. For $10 a year, and maybe $200 for a nice design from sites like SitePoint.com, you can have a professional website to run your business from.
Which leaves me wondering, Gary, it's no surprise why you're famous (your a brilliant guy), what I don't understand is how you got to be so damn smart.
Brilliant, as always.

in 9 Essential Elements of High-Quality Web Content on Social Media Rockstar
People visiting your website want to know what the page they are visiting is about, and they want to know it RIGHT NOW.
All of these points can strengthen your website's content because it lets people visiting know exactly what they can expect in a fast and efficient way.
Simple, and straight-to-the-point headlines work because that's the first thing most people look for these days. Having great-looking typography helps because it makes the content on your web page easy to read (and can also, subconsciously, separate your website from all of the others). Subheadings, bullet lists, clean writing, and avoiding intrusive ads are also all great ways to help your visitors understand exactly what the page they are visiting is about and why they should care.
The rest of the points are frosting on the cake. ;)

in Should a writer put content behind the RSS wall? | Broadcasting Brain on Broadcasting Brain
The mindset here isn't about being "closed", it's all about being a community.
I think the biggest appeal to this is that anybody can join. Is it really that hard to subscribe? No, of course not. If you don't want to subscribe to get the information then you aren't really interested in the content provided, right? And if you are, then you can subscribe (unsubscribing is just as easy).
It's about being a part of something, and that something is open to anyone who is interested. :)

Some great discussion going on here, I think.
Thanks for posting about the blog Mark, I've just sent you an email with some interesting details about Creative Something and the "RSS wall" approach to blogging.

Interesting. Seems like Yahoo is trying some innovative things to get themselves out of the mess they're currently in. They should keep it up IMO.

in Letterfu: It Might Just Get You To Send Mail Again on How To Split An Atom
That's pretty cool.
Somebody should take this a step further and offer to mail out all of the letters people create online for them. All you would have to do is sign up, pay a small fee, write a letter, select a design, then click send. How cool would that be?
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Tanner. I have been playing with it and have discovered a lot of
interesting stats. Now, if Yahoo had such a tool, it would be interesting
to compare the 2.

in The Brain Freeze Effect on Manizesto Comments
Very true, with a few exceptions. One exception is a local creamery that serves the best cookies and cream icecream that any human will ever taste. It's so delicious that one serving is not enough. Actually, even after finishing off an entire box of the stuff myself (yeah, it comes in boxes, not cartons, does that skew the results?) I was STILL craving more.
The second exception that comes to mind is cars. I just bought a brand new car, and yet I still find myself wanting more. I wouldn't even mind buying the same exact car that I just bought. How could would it be to have two of the exact same car?

in Manizesto - Why is my iTunes receipt so late? - Small Business Marketing Blog. on Manizesto Comments
Apple use to have it setup so you would get a receipt immediately via email. I've noticed now that they don't do that any more, instead they add up totals for a single day (they assume you're going to buy more than one thing a day, I guess) and then add tax and bill you the next day. It's made the process better, but definitely takes a lot longer to get receipts and such.
It's awful because, for a while, when I didn't get a receipt for my iTunes purchase I figured I was getting free stuff and just kept buying! That was a bad choice.

in Manizesto - Are gas pumps pumping slower? - Small Business Marketing Blog. on Manizesto Comments
Pumping gas slowly means that you get more fuel than air while filling up, actually. So you are getting more of a full tank if the pumps are working slower than they use to be. I haven't noticed any real change, but then again, I try not to fill up as often as possible.
