in Domain Changed to Marketingtechblog.com on The Marketing Technology Blog
I think this is a smart move Doug. The new domain name much more closely matches your targeted niche, and like Willy said above, as long as you've got your 301 redirect setup properly, your search engine rankings really shouldn't suffer.

in My Greatest Masterpieces on The Marketing Technology Blog
Thanks Doug - I'm really looking forward to being a parent, but find myself worrying about doing a good job and not screwing my kids up.

I think what you say about being honest with them about mistakes you've made in your own life, and letting them make their own decisions is definitely the way to go. There are some lessons that you just have to learn for yourself, even if it's the hard way.

Beautiful post Doug. I have a son on the way, and I can only hope that I'll be able to be as good a parent to him.

I also think it's wonderful that you are able to maintain such a healthy relationship with your ex-wife. As you say, it's for the kids, and it really doesn't help if you're fighting all the time and playing the kids off each other like some sort of twisted mind game. I had friends growing up with parents like that, and it's really sad to see.

Douglas Karr Congratulations Brandon! I've made a ton of mistakes on the way, believe me. I've said things to my kids that I know hurt them when I was angry and sometimes I don't give them the attention they deserve. But every time we're going to be away from each other we tell each other we love one another - even when we're angry. And we hug... a lot!

I've also been honest with my kids about the mistakes I've made and I apologize when I've done things wrong with them. As much as I can, I allow them to make their own decisions and then we discuss the consequences of those decisions.

My son jokes about how close our friendship is. We hang out as much as any of his friends do. For IUPUI, he's actually going to live at home! I'm still the boss (for now).

in Tiger Woods does NOT work on his Weaknesses on The Marketing Technology Blog
I agree completely Doug - the difference between being good at something and being great is that last 0.1%. There are lots of people who can reach the 99.9% mark, but very few can overcome that last 0.1%. This is true with almost any activity, whether it's golf, photography, or programming.

Great work again Doug! The contact form looks very slick, I plan on adding it to my site as soon as I get a few extra minutes...

in I Swear! Or should I? on The Marketing Technology Blog
I agree that 99% of the time, cursing is completely unnecessary. There are however, a few instances when it is truly the best way to express how you feel about something. Personally, I can't remember ever cursing in a blog post, but I wouldn't rule it out either.

in I broke WordPress 2.1 on The Marketing Technology Blog
Good luck Doug. I've been putting off upgrading to WordPress 2.1 because I'm worried about suffering the same fate.

I've done quite a few WordPress themes in the past, so feel free to give me a shout if you need any help with it.

I'm holding off on the upgrade for just a while until I hear more. I've already read several upgrade horror stories about many plugins not working anymore.

in What’s rel=”nofollow”? on The Marketing Technology Blog
Thanks for pointing out the Dofollow plugin Doug. I was aware that WordPress added rel="nofollow" to links in comments, and I definitely agree with your logic that as long as comments are being moderated, any relevant links left in the comments deserve their due credit.

The winners were announced on PodTech's website - http://www.podtech.net/blog/blog/1538/seagate-c...

I got 2nd place, but haven't heard anything from PodTech yet (and from the comments, it doesn't sound like any of the other winners have heard anything either). Do you know what's going on Robert?

in Beginner’s Guides to SQL Injection and Cross-Site Scripting on The Marketing Technology Blog
Wow, thanks for the post Doug. I feel honored... :)

The problem you describe of not really knowing how to spot these types of vulnerabilities is the biggest problem that I see. If I show a programmer that doesn't know a thing about security a piece of code and ask them if it's secure, of course they are going to say that it's secure - they don't know what they're looking for!

The real key here is educating our developers on what to look for, and how to fix it. That was the purpose behind my two articles.
