I hope it's index-linked, or this time next year he'll only be able to afford to shop from Tesco's Value Range.

in PPS Revolt Threatened Over Post Privatisation on Guido Fawkes Blog
Who needs the Post Office anyway? Most of the "mail" is nothing more than litter. Do I need new fascias? Solar panels? Double glazing? Will I send £15 so someone can dig a well in Africa? Roof covered in moss? Before and after! Dear Dennis, Send money! The alternative being: Dear Dennis, Fuck off!
Scrap the Post Office, or better still give it to Tony Woodley to run. Let him make the decisions for a change.
Reminds me of Murdoch's move to Wapping in the 1980s. The unions went bonkers, so he just offered them the old presses, gratis. I can't recall whether they took him up on it, but neither do I notice Solidarity: the Voice of the Bruvvers jostling for space with the other papers at the newsagent's.
While we're at it, let's scrap the BBC as well.
In fact, let's scrap everything and start again. A nice clean slate. Powerhose the whole lot of it down the drain: the welfare state, the NHS, in fact the whole public sector ... (cont'd on p. 94) ...

in Sunday Sleaze on Guido Fawkes Blog
I read a couple of pages of the Mirror once at the barber's. I thought, "Who writes this shit?" And even more worrying, "Who reads it?"
I later discovered that it is read by professional morons, many of whom drive white vans or builders' lorries. Their copy of the Daily Mirror is often kept between the dashboard and the windscreen, together with empty Coke cans, old Mars Bars wrappers and the like.
I don't know whether, in order to be able to buy a copy, one has to present the newsagent with a membership card from the British Union of Morons, but it seems likely. Certainly the editorial staff are all prominent in that organization; and I believe that Toilets may even be in the running for the 2010 presidency.

Lest my readers think I have been unfair in not giving Draper the opportunity to respond, I have stated 4 or 5 times in personal correspondence (cc’ed to his lawyer) over the last week that I would be willing to give him the opportunity on this blog to clarify his position and respond to some questions."

in Decode Clock Is Hard To Read, Lacks Hour Hand on OhGizmo!
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the large hand that allows you to decipher the hour is the hour hand, and the thin hand is the minute hand. The hour hand stays over the hour so it can be read and doesn't move until the minute hand makes a full swing through 59 minutes. When the minute hand hits 60 minutes, the hour hand clicks ahead to the next hour and the cycle repeats itself.

One other comment, please. Mukasey seems to be no better at allowing truth to come out than was Alberto Gonzales.
You don't have to be a blind conservative not to see it, just an ignorant one to deny it.

Having watched the Democrats caving into the Republicans at every turn, and now also in the Senate by voting to grant immunity to the telecom industry, I have no doubt that the House will cave in as well. Although the mainstream media has reported little of it, if any, the Democrats, with the exception of two or three, have protected Bush just as much as tho they were Republicans.
Americans know that the telecom industry is going to cooperate with "the war on terror" whether they have immunity or not for their past transgressions.
The immunity is to protect Bush, not the telecoms. Both political partys know it and so do the American people.

in Treatment for Vets’ Brain Injuries Should Be a No-Brainer on The Colorado Independent
Wounded soldiers deserve proper treatment Deny it all they want to, but no one who has watched the Bush administration and the Pentagon at work is surprised at the poor treatment of wounded American soldiers.
After all, they need to save the tax money that needs to be spent on their care so that the already rich and corporations can have their unnecessary, unneeded tax breaks.
And even if the military aren't wounded, their health care for their famlies is about as poor as it gets.
You don't have to be a blind conservative not to see it, just an ignorant one to deny it.

in Resident Evil 5: Hasn’t Africa Suffered Enough? on Jack and Jill Politics
Being as charitable as possible - I played and liked the first couple Resident Evil games as a kid, though I have since mostly forsaken hyper-violent videogames - I can guess that the game's makers did get tired of setting their game in cities, and this was their solution.
It also fits into the existing game world that the bad guys would move to Africa where they could experiment "more freely" and whatnot. Probably some story abouut "decreased government regulation" and "corrupt African officials" or something.
None of the above is designed to justify the game. Given the history of race and racism, this game, I think, cannot help but draw on that history.

in How the New Dollar Coin COULD Work on ParisLemon
Here in Boston we've just adopted a "Charlie Ticket" system similar to NY's Metro Card for our subways. It was a pain in the ass at first, but I'm glad to say it's working out great. Ticket vending machines give change with $1 coins, and bus rides are a buck, which is a lot easier than fumbling with dollar bills, espescially on a bus.
