I love that my content will be around longer than me - hopefully forever. As an artist it is a real motivator to keep making more and better art. Same as a writer.

in Your Professional Bio on AttentionMax
Interesting thoughts - I think your bio can be anything you'd like it to be. It can be a bullet point list or an essay, it can be long or short. You can incorporate social proofing elements if you want. It can be as simple as an "about" page on a blog or more of a formal layout. There's no wrong answer here - ultimately I think the bio is just the first step - something more interesting is someone's stream - what they find interesting, what they write, what they share, etc.

Agree. I think the tricky part is that you can one intention for a bio at a certain points, but inevitably, some old or unintended version may have unexpected impact in the future. That's a key point I missed in my original essay.

in Content: To Optimize or Not To Optimize [Twitter Tips] on SiliconANGLE
I don't think there is anything wrong with optimizing content for SEO (in fact I've shared my SEO strategy publicly) but optimizing for specific social media sites is just a matter of writing a catchy headline, IMO. Leave the rules aside and let creativity reign! Good points all around, I think both strategies could work out for sure - I personally enjoy clever headlines though and don't necessarily agree with forcing them into a box. Techdirt is one site for example that frequently writes headlines way too long for Twitter, but look at their popularity. I still think if you persevere content is king...optimizing for SEO helps but optimizing for social media is being compelling.

The way I view it that your strategy should fit your goals. Not all content projects are long term projects - perhaps it's something built around an event or a series with an end date or something - you've got a limited amount of time to generate as much buzz as possible. In that instance, you've got to evaluate which segments of your social graph your content appeals to and where they are.
From a different perspective, people will pay a lot of money to insert their message or content into other's attention streams, and anything you can do to decrease those costs by optimizing or tweaking behaviors or headlines here and there - well, that's money you don't hafta spend.
In the long run, though, for most regular content producers, the actual quality of the content is far more important than any optimisation regimes one may undertake, you're absolutely right on that.

Adam Singer,
Great idea... chess is incredible for strategic thinking.... but I've found that digital games help the social media mind stay flexible... is computer chess any good? Haven't seen it since the pre-Pentium days.

in Google Reader Extends Statistics On Friends' Sharing Habits - louisgray.com on louisgray.com
RSS is dead articles are linkbait, plain and simple. I love people trying to declare relatively new technologies dead already when things like Fax machines truck on (now THOSE are dead). Seriously it's a joke. It's "infotainment", aka fluff. The internet equivalent of a rumor magazine.

in Spread Your Wings- Get More Retweet Action Today on Chris Brogan
If all you want is re-tweets, just write something about Twitter. I am not joking, it works almost too well. My post last week receieved almost 1,000 re-tweets, because - well - it was about Twitter. It's easy to do that because the network is still very much a meta network.

This is an interesting post Eric - you have a point, but also at the same time things change. It is great to be able to do what you are saying (timeless information) but sometimes things update and you can't really help that. With this said, I agree with the premise.
