Phil,

You certainly wouldn't remember me, but I listened to a lecture you gave on blogging and social media when I took "Internet Marketing" from Paul Allen a few years ago at BYU. I've since had a great interest in the power of these technologies and visit your blog here on occasion.

We're getting ready to launch our site we've been working at for the last several months at digitalsignage.com. We essentially got lucky in purchasing the key domain in a burgeoning industry. Since then, we've been creating a UGC news feed for the site which should be live in the next week or two. A full press release will follow.

Interestingly, I've been looking at creative ways to get the word out so to speak on the site, twitter being one. I think we've barely scratched the surface in a lot of ways on the power of microblogging. In fact, I recently read an article where Twitter had passed Digg for traffic. We'll be using a twitter refeed of some sort to feed from our industry UGC news feed, but it was just a coincidence that when I ran upon your blog, you'd created your own! You're right, it's not like we need to reinvent the wheel, but I'm glad to see you're looking to harness the power of what the twitter folks have created.

Any suggestions and input you have with any of this, on what works or does not would be great. Have a good one.

Nate

I think paid content is here to stay. If it does begin to go away, it's gonna be quite a while (in my opinion).

That's gonna be great. If they can make it seemless then they'll be unstoppable.

Very cool to see. It'll be interesting to the see the reaction. You know how people are, sometimes they get a bit uptight if they have to relearn things.

MG Siegler I think Facebook is taking the right approach this time by taking it sooo sloooow and previewing everything to the extreme. I like what I saw a lot, there will be a slight learning curve for some though - and they may not like that...

Yeah, I bet they'd like Microsoft. Many of us are glad that it didn't go down.

It seems iStockphoto" expansion into the Music realm is one of the many examples of how traffic will drive companies into other markets. Get some traffic and expand offerings. That's just seems to be how it works.

Interesting post. It makes you think twice about how you go about developing, even from the outset.

Thanks for the post. I've perused their site and I think they've really got a niche that separates itself from twitter enough to make it work.

This is interesting. I actually work for a company that does interactive sms mobile solutions integrated with digital signage. Let me know if you're interested in a link exchange. My google rank is 3/10 and my alexa rank is in the top 500,000. Let me know.

I couldn't agree more. I've had several blurbs while running it, and the incompatibility is annoying.

in What's the @ in Twitter? on Windley's Technometria
Sorry. One more thing. Wiffiti does a similar thing with the @ usage. Just a little info. They're owned and run by a company called Loca Moda. Incidentally, they're one of our competitors.

Phil, interesting post. You won't remember me, but I remember hearing you speak in Paul Allen's class several years ago. Anyway, Twitter's model has been interesting to my partners and I at Projective Marketing because we're working on our own entrance into the SMS marketing arena in some very unique ways, including interactive SMS integrated into the Digital Signage industry via games and text-to-screen.
I recently posted on my blog about Twitter's ability to create a revenue stream because I was having a hard time grasping how they were staying afloat in the short term. I really like what they are doing and will continue to be watching them going forward. Nice post.

Phil Windley I think the area of SMS interaction to things like digital signage is
a cool idea.
