Swarmcast was open source and not proprietary. Swarmcast was not developed in Toronto, but was purchased by Opencola, which never did anything significant with it other than sink it. I believe you are also wrong about Justin re-purchasing the IP.

Mathew, I think the point is that LinkedIn is NOT MySpace for grown ups. They aren't trying to do the same things that Facebook or Flickr are doing. LinkedIn is solely about professional connections and nothing more. If they added the missing elements you want, then they lose their niche.

The fact that no venture money was involved, made the transaction a lot easier. $10M is a drop in the bucket for Yahoo! They bought hits that are growing. And the founders got a quick penny. Sounds like a win-win.

What new? How is this different than TechCrunch? Mike brags that conflict of interest is what makes TechCrunch great. You link to him all the time? How come you aren't asking Mike to leave TechCrunch?

The AdSense API is not a new thing. It's been around for at least six months and is in wide use by larger publishers like about.com.

Hehe, I always thought the biggest drawback of gada.be is that he makes the ads look like the primary results. It's effectively a click trap. Almost 50% of the visible screen is ads. But that doesn't stop BOGUmeisters from sucking up to Chris.

Too true. The other day, my niece asked what the difference between MySpace and Spaces are. She said she was on the same one as my daughter. Ah, MSN Spaces. They don't even know which social network they are on. They only know that their friends are on it too. Further, she asked why they changed it to live.com and I said "Stupid peopel at Microsoft". She asked "Why Microsoft?" She didn't know the MS in MSN was Microsoft. Us techies are too smart for our own good. The world is a very simple place.
