This is like kicking Mozart out of the orchestra pit. Makes no sense. Makes me wonder if 98% of affiliate programs are even managed as they say they are, or just put on auto-pilot. Sad, and crazy that this kind of stuff is still going on after years and years in this industry.

I dunno, I think if you really take a ride into the "real" blogosphere you'll see that the commercialism isn't there. There are literally millions of blogs that are fresh, new and not worried about making money.

I think we, in our little pocket, only see one side of it. Go over to wordpress.com and search around and look at some of those 600k blogs. There's a lot of "real" blogs out there.

My friend's blog www.kevincharnas.com is a great example.

I've been wanting to do video like this for a long time. I am almost there. I have the green screen and I'm working on getting the proper lighting.

Then, I think it's all about just dropping the video into flash and wiping the green background out and having some fun.

I'm a long-time MMORPG'er, started with Asheron's Call back years and years ago. I've got a WOW account now for several years, and none of this surprises me.

Except... that the workers actually go and play WOW in their downtime. I don't get that. I mean, leveling and "grinding" is hard, boring work. I can't believe you'd want to be in game after working in it so much.

But I suppose if there's not much else to do?

I admit it, I've bought stuff (gold, characters) before, but never from China, just friends.

Why? Because I don't have time to sit and play the game 12-hours a day. Instead, it's nice to simply be able to enjoy playing at high-levels.

It's about enjoyment.

Remember, I don't own widgetbucks, nor do I have any financial stake in the company. I just helped them launch it with some buzz. The product stands on its own merits, not mine. Although I do think it is working for a LOT of people. I wouldn't recommend something I thought wouldn't work.

I can only go by what I read. Problogger.net says it outperforms Adsense and Chitika for him. I didn't make that up, he wrote it.

Steve's point is well taken to me. If you really, really look around, you'll see that the blogs out there that have all the sponsorships and thousands and thousands of readers... They all have the same thing.

Well thought-out, original content and ideas.

I struggle with producing that type of content myself. Why? Because it's hard. It's "easier' for me to piggyback off a techmeme story and add my contribution.

If I would just stop doing that, and instead work on more, better high-quality content I would be in better shape in terms of my monetization and readership. No question on that.

Thanks for commenting. The problem with Vimeo and all the rest is they don't offer those list of features I mentioned that are very important to a business moving forward. Maybe they will in the future. Not sure why Youtube would want to let a competitor move up and take this piece of the pie though.

As for kids putting their skateboarding videos on YT business. Um, nope. Nobody except a real business is going to shell out $100/month. Especially some kid.

The potential is huge, isn't it?
