in Is RSS Reading Dead? on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I use Google Reader all the time. I actually post links to twitter right from the reader using the Google Reader + Twitter greasemonkey script.

in My Review of Jack Wallen’s Post: “10 Reasons Why Linux Will Triumph Over Windows” on Tech Xav
Triumph? Not likely any time soon. However it may gain more of a legit mainstream existence. Maybe the 5-10% that Apple has. Apple will probably go up to around 20% and Windows will be around 60-70%.
I have 2 PCs a Mac and a Linux machine at home. Linux has a looooong way to go. Hardware compatibilities are way worse than Windows and Mac. Installing software can still be tricky. Stuff just does not work like the commercial OS choices.
I desperately want it to succeed, but every time I give it a chance, it still seems not ready for prime time.

in Alexa Wants Bloggers’ Attention Again; Gives Back Inflated Rankings on Marketing Pilgrim
Mine just jumped about 60,000 spots (265K to 205K). I just thought that I became a better writer. Oh well, kind of like when the made the SATs easier.

in Can Facebook Kill Google? on Marketing Pilgrim
No!
Google is simple, clean and elegant. It just does what you want, on the first try.
Facebook is a great big cluster-F.
Google is a money machine, Facebook is, well, not.
Not likely.

in Digg Founder Launches WeFollow, A User-Generated Twitter Directory on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I signed up as soon as he tweeted it yesterday. I always check out these things to see which ones have any value. Needless to say, I had a bunch of new followers this morning.
It seems like a decent idea and when you have an internet goldenboy pushing it, there will be some extra momentum.

in Latest Digg Gaming Schemer Isn’t Ashamed of Himself on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I think it does ruin the "spirit of the community" but it's actually interesting that he's hones about what he's doing.
It makes it a little less slimy.
So many other people are gaming the system and lying about it too.

in Video- Find Your Voice in Business on Chris Brogan
Great topic. I work in an accounting area at an insurance company and it took a while for me to be able to use my own voice and still be OK with people. I think that after you put a body of work together and let people see that you're a good person despite some rough edges, it all works out.
My lesson was that you might have to let people see more of your good side before you unleash yourself 100%.

in Palm did what Nokia, RIM, and Microsoft couldn’t: build a better experience than Apple on Scobleizer
I think that it looks like the kind of phone that people will like. They might just buy something that they like. If people buy it, Palm may not die.
It's not that far fetched to think that Palm could make a SMALL comeback.
Even if this is not "better than the iPhone" show me something from Motorola, Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, or LG that you would rather have. You don't have to be number 1 to be a successful company. I think Pepsi still makes a few dollars.

in Testing out the latest Windows Live Writer on Scobleizer
I've been using Live Writer for over a year with my Wordpress blog. I love it. It works great. You can even get a portable version for a USB drive if you're worried about it being consistent on multiple computers.

Gmail Task Manager = Forget RememberTheMilk
I always hate when a plucky little guy gets squashed by a monster, but I also love tight integration. I'm going to miss those guys.

I like the data logging of Last.FM a lot. However I think that Pandora just sends me better music. I learn about most of my newer bands from pandora.

What a coincidence, I'm just opening my brand new Zi6 right now. My wife bought it for me for my B-Day. So far it seems pretty cool. It would definitely be cooler for the winner of the contest. Free is always cooler.

in Convert Firefox Into A Music Hub on Techie Buzz
Great article. That's what I love (and hate) about FireFox. You can extend it into being a super productivity application for so many tasks. The bad part is that all of this extending typically bloats the interface and bogs down performance.
Life is full of trade-offs.

I love it when idiotic companies waste so much effort crippling their products, only to see them be re-hacked immediately.
PSP, Apple TV, etc.
Great work.

in 2008/09/04/google-chrome-growth/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Am I the only one that is unimpressed by Chrome? I put it on three machines to do a thorough test and if froze up on all of them. I didn't see anything that would make me leave Firefox or Opera or even Flock. I just don't see it.

PaulGlazowski It has been available only for 3 days. I imagine that by the new year we'll see a much more robust and refined version. Not much more featureful, maybe. But more stable, yes.

The advantage of its design beneath the hood is clear. But for most users, it's not such a quick sell. That said, it's a very noticeable sell now, and it will only get more noticeable with time. So I think it only stands to gain more market share. At a much faster clip than Firefox did during its beginnings.

in 2008/08/19/yahoo-buzz-public/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I think that they should not try to compete with Buzz either. They probably won't have to. The people that make up their core constituency don't respect Yahoo any way. The same way that they didn't respect AOL's Propeller.
Buzz will get a slice of Yahoo's very mainstream audience, and not much else.
Oh yeah, except for SEO hacks trying to boost their Google rankings.

This sounds exactly like what they have been doing for years. I can't see what make this different in any way. Am I missing something?

in Why I Started Punching Jerks Again on The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss
If more parents laid a STFU on their kids, there would be less of a need to punch grown ups in the face.
If STFU is too harsh for your kids, why don't you start small with a hearty "HELL NO" when they ask to do someting ridiculous.
