This is such an important message. I am so thankful that God chose to spare me and my family from the dysfunctional cycle we were in. Every now and then, I'm reminded of how far we've come, and I'm speechless. Those people at KCC are blessed to have Heather and you! BTW, she should guest blog for you again, I loved her posts.

You watch Chuck Norris Movies!? Heathen! J/K, when Emma was a baby, we had to keep the lights down in the afternoon, so she would open her eyes, thus sleeping at night. Judd and I watched Walker Texas Ranger almost every day. Now, when we see the reruns on, we laugh hysterically. We were sure she'd be a 4 year old blackbelt.

Hey, Heather! Great post. You summed it up very clearly. I still have so many things running around my head from last weekend.

in The Wiggles Creep Me Out on Live.Awake
My friend's daughters are so scared of the puppet Wiggles, they can't even look at the DVD case that has them on it. I always ask myself, "Why would grown men want to do this?" Anyway, they are millionaires now, aren't they? Hmmm....

Speaking of VeggieTales, One of my favorite commentators, Glenn Beck was talking about liberal propaganda trying to indoctrinate kids (ie: Happy Feet, Fern Gully, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown) He said, "Liberals get all the cool cartoons! And what do conservatives have? Talking, singing vegetables?! Kids HATE vegetables!!" We love VeggieTales, BTW, I just thought it was hilarious.

in Scientology is Growing in Hollywood on Live.Awake
I researched Scientology a while ago, and it's hard to believe anyone would fall for this. BBC did some great reporting on the Global Warming Hoax also. It seems they are learning some intimidation techniques from the Scientologists. I wonder how many celebrities stay in Scientology because of the blackmail factor from their auditing sessions.

in Why Santa Won’t be Coming to my House… Ever. on Live.Awake
Hey, Ben, I just came across this in the archives. I love it. You've inspired me for next year when my dad's wife berates me for depriving my children of the "joy" of Santa Claus.

The hardest part is getting your "black-and-white" 6 year old to be quiet when other parents want to deceive their children.

PS Personally, beating a redneck senseless in the Walmart is the highlight of my Christmas season. (Not really, don't start calling me a hate-monger!)

So true, Ben. I don't know if it was changing churches, or if I just got more mature in my walk, but in 02 when we first went to Alliance, I was expecting sort of a "dry" worship experience, as I had heard from others. On the contrary, I was set free from believing that I had to act a certain way to be spiritual, and filled with the Spirit. I believe that for so long, I had subconsciously put on the mask of what I thought it looked like to be a spirit-filled Christian. I think the turning point was when I had post traumatic panic disorder after Emma was born, and I was said to be "no longer spriitually stable." This has been one of my favorite songs ever since it came out. PS I linked to you in my blog today.

in Do You Believe in God? Why? on Live.Awake
BTW I saw that interview on Oreilly (I tivo every night) I thought both sides were pretty weak. After reading his book, "Who's Looking Out For You," it's clear O'reilly is moral and religious, but is very hesitant to say that Christianity is THE truth.

Most apologetics is way above my head. That was certainly a spirited debate with you and George! As you know, I believe in God the Father, Jesus, his Son as our Savior, who takes away our sin, and the Holy Spirit, our Counselor. The only reason I came to a life-changing belief is because I met Him, and He changed me. For those who know my testimony, you cannot dispute that. You know a tree by its fruit.

For me, I use the words of Nathanael in the Gospel of John, "Come and see." That is the only way I can explain it; for someone to come experience it themselves. If you're changed, great, you will believe. If not, I'll keep praying and loving you until you're ready to really meet Him. This may be somewhat simplistic , but it has proven effective.

My mom and both by previously troubled brothers have come to the Lord, and two friends who I have been praying for are on their way! Also, I think the Lord works this way in my life because I cannot say I did anything, it was Him shining through me.

Oh, Ben, I remember one time when you met my youngest brother, Charlie, you said you felt like he had a prophetic gift. He is now serving the Lord in Clayton at an Assembly of God church. He is married with 2 kids! Also, my mom said my other brother, Joe, who has battled with drugs, was raising his hands and tearing up in worship last week. Praise God!! This is an example of why I believe!! No one who truly meets Jesus cannot be changed!

in Geraldo and Bill O’Reilly Have it Out on Live.Awake
I so agree. As entertaining as it was, I'm tired of hearing each side spout their rhetoric and never actually DO anything!! (This goes for every issue, not just Immigration) As for the argument, I think this was almost better than when Bill read Phil Donahue the riot act a while ago. Did you see that?

I've never heard the learning styles broken down like this before. I really got into the learning modalities (Aural Visual Kinesthetic) when I was teaching, and it was fascinating. This adds a whole new dimension to it.

in Embracing the Pig Sty on Live.Awake
How true this is, and yet heartbreaking! I reached my "pigsty" moment in 1994, although seemingly not as low as Geoff. After years of Christians telling me Jesus loved me and had better for me, I was finally ready to run home and never turn back. Thank God for that pigsty.

PS I have myself to blame for another pigsty - my house right now. Well, I guess I could blame my kids. Hee hee

in How to Know if You are Getting Old on Live.Awake
Ben, I am in stitches!! Olivia keeps saying, "Mom what are you laughing at?" and I'm trying to figure out if I should tell her the poo story or not. She wouldn't get it anyway, but she laughs at anything involving embarrassing bodily functions. (She's a daddy's girl) Oh, who is Gloriana, anyway, I couldn't figure that one out. (JK)
