You can get over 2,000 MLB games from direct from MLB's website for $125 a season. They even have a mosaic application where you can watch up to six games at once (whichever game you click on gets the audio feed). The only catch is that you don't get games from your local team (or whatever market MLB deems you to be a part of), nor the national game of the week on the weekend, but that is on free broadcast television so you're not really missing out.

Justin.tv is excellent because they always have the game, but if you can find the game on SopCast or TVU you'll usually get a better quality stream.

Glenn, I consider myself closer to a mercenary than an idealist. I am in it for the money. If there was no money in it or if it was the same, I'd rather coach high school football. I love start-ups too, but I love business more than start-ups. For me, not being in it for money is like shooting hoops without being concerned about whether the ball goes in. I also find something especially ironic: Most "entrepreneurs", including yourself, do not have any hard dollars invested in your business. 99% of the idealistic entrepreneur never actually invests his own cash. This cash belongs to pension funds, endowments, etc; they want returns, which VCs haven't delivered throughout this decade. When you say you worked for free, that's not really accurate, considering that you still have upside. But you do not have any downside other than ego, face, and pride. This makes your idealism hollow, since it is on someone else's dime.

Glenn, I enjoy your writing immensely. It is always a treat. You are at the extreme end of the transparency-idealism spectrum. I am at the other end; the opposite of transparency is not obfuscation in my case, but internal financing so I don't explain much to anyone. I have learned to communicate and explain myself to my employees a little better because of you, but one of the reasons that my people have responded well is that they know that I am a practical businessman. They don't question my motives because my motives are blatant. My company is the equivalent of a stock portfolio; it is an instrument of wealth creation. One benefit of this approach is that it is easier to cut losses and change course very quickly, especially given the current environment. When start-ups are too mission-centric, the survival instinct is often secondary to the mission; after all, how can a business be in peanuts one day and walnuts the next if the mission was peanuts. When profits and revenues are front-and-center, people understand dramatic changes better. By the way, maybe I am cynical, but the sense of mission in start-ups has less to do with making a difference than wanting to be a part of something...tribal, really, like rooting for a team or city or candidate.

This is sad indeed. John and Todd, do you feel that your mandate at TechFlash is more flexible in terms of how you approach stories, subjects, etc..? Your range of coverage is the same, is your approach different.

My fear is that blog-style journalism, while the people are just as talented, creates an informal approach to reporting. There is also the risk of playing to the crowd on a day-to-day basis since people are able to give feedback right away via comments. With blogs, the reader is more important to impress than the editor, which I am not sure is necessarily great. Short-term entertainment vs. long-term preservation of an editorial brand.

The story and the truth are more important than the reader. It has to be for a media brand to be strong.

By the way, TechFlash might be new media, but the base is funded by an old media family, the Newhouses, that own Advance, Conde Nast, and American City.

What might seem like fat at Microsoft might be someone who would thrive as a start-up founder or employee at a start-up.

Your manager at MS determines if you are 'fat' and how they define it makes sense for a large sloth-like political company that MS has become.

I can think of one start-up CEO who is kicking major tail, but was pushed out of his team because he didn't 'fit' with Microsoft's culture.

In fact, I often feel the folks who don't fit at MSFT today are more like the MSFT employees back in the 1980s and early 1990s when MS used to kick tail.

 Regarding Patriot Act, Iraq, War and Terrorists, I really see nothing new under the sun, such as it was, it's still a bunch of lies.

Goverment bets on fear to do whatever they want, how they want and when they want.

America's never been safer. The problem is if you believe so, the patriot act never would be justified!

And by the way, war has not made America safer, cause hate against America has RAISED because of it.
