in HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition now available for $329 and up on Liliputing
I might be mistaken but on HP's configurator it's got a 1024X576 display much like the Mini 2140. Frankly for me all those little pixels count. I'd much rather pay the extra $30 odd for a better display.

Once again having a Mac saves you from nasties. Thanks Google for not putting us in harm by ignoring OSX.

in Thoughts about video blogging on Paul Jacobson
I'm a bit late on the take up here but let me throw in my two cents.
Firstly: loved the "face for radio" comment.
Secondly I'm not sure what one can offer different via a vlog as opposed to a blog. Obviously it's more visual but if you need to demonstrate something you can always embed a video in your writen blog.

The thing is, the web is becoming more focused towards video but in my mind that's somewhat dumbing it down.
The truth is that I would have rather read your opinions or listened to them as a podcast because ultimately (and no offence Paul) staring at you is slightly... well.... dull.

I think vlogging has potential, I'm just not sure where yet.

Well it's the exact same software so you'll have the same services. E71 it is then!
That said, iPhone 2 is coming soon...

My last cellphone was the E61 and my girlfriend has the E61i. It's an awesome phone but still on the big side. Adding GPS and a smaller size (ie the E71) would make it a super device. After using the E61 I can never go back to a non QWERTY cellphone.

With regards to iSync on the Mac you'll have the ability to transfer contacts and appointments but you'll not be able to backup your sms's or install applications like you can using the Nokia software in Windows. It's limited but if your needs are basic (contacts and appointments) like mine then it should do the job fine.

in My internal iPhone 3G debate on Paul Jacobson
If and only if it comes to SA with the equivalent price of $199 (which according to Steve Jobs it should) then it's an appealing prospect. In America AT&T is going to take a financial hit and subsidise the phone. In South Africa though our generous benefactors at Vodacom might charge us an absolute fortune for the pleasure of the iPhone, I forsee no less than 200 a month for phone and more likely closer to 300.

If I were you, I'd totally get one. For me though, it's all down to price.

in iPhone coming to South Africa sooner than expected on Simon Dingle
I saw it's from the Apple site but considering Core (who runs that website) isn't going to be releasing the phone I'm wondering who is right. 11th of July would be awesome though.

Um I think you're actually mistaken:
This is a list of countries that will be getting in first http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/09/the-lucky-22...

Unfortunately we're on the 48 other countries getting the phone later on.

in iPhone 2.0 - now with iApathy on wogan.may
I've had an iPhone for 6 months now. The new one looks cool but is ultimately underwhelming. Looks like I'll just stick with my original generation one.
The Cult of Apple is strong. So strong that I'm surprised your site hasn't been blown up by the Steve Jobs terrorism fan-boy squad. The media is creating another Microsoft with Apple and all that's going to happen is in 10 years time we'll all be using Linux as the "uber software" and everyone will be reminiscing about how Apple got it all wrong in 2010. Nice company, good products but certainly not nearly as amazing as they are made out to be.

in iPhone to be available through Vodacom on Paul Jacobson
I've had one for 5 months and the lack of keyboard still makes me type like a monkey. Until they get a proper physical keyboard it's not worth the effort. Unfortunately I really love the phone besides for the keyboard problem.

in Buy the bigger MacBook? on Paul Jacobson
OS X has a utility that allows you to connect the two Mac's together via Firewire and it automatically takes your info from the old PC to the new one. I'm not sure what it's called off the top of my head but it's somewhere in utilities.

The black one is awesome although I must be honest I prefer my white one as it picks up less oily finger marks or at least the visible ones :P

in Getting older, time for the pasture? on Paul Jacobson
Thanks so much for the kind words Paul. I really don't think you should feel old and I really don't think that it is time to hang up the boot just quite yet. If it weren't for the "older generation" pioneering blogging in South Africa there wouldn't be a space for people like myself.

Blogging for me is something I really enjoy, I love writing and I get a kick out of the fact that people read my work.

To be honest this is the first time I've looked at your site (got an incoming link from my own site) but I really like it. It's topical and interesting. Please continue, the experience and knowledge you have gives the rest of us bloggers inspiration!
